Well, now that school is out for the summer, I can focus on my trip to Zambia. So my countdown begins...29 days until we leave. I've got my vaccinations complete (that was over $300) and prescriptions I will need to fill within that next few weeks for Malaria and Typhoid. On July 19th I will go for my 2nd Twinrex shot. Today I bought a great backpack at MEC along with a brimmed hat (this will be a first...I never wear brimmed hats) but since they are recommended I will take one along. At MEC I got all these great ideas for clothing, now I just need to research what is acceptable in Zambia, from what I hear they are a more conservative country so I have to keep that in mind. I still can't believe ... read more

My first blog. Here we go :) Pretty much a month to date before I take off for good ol Europe! Wow. Pretty stoked for everything. Even the preperation for this trip has been fun. I say that only because it seems that everything has fallen into place. Afterall, I have had some time to get things in order! I moved out West after uni to get out and explore a bit, something new. I decided to move back from that because Europe was next on my list and saving up from home made sense. So it's been a year and a half roughly since I've moved back. Since then I have been saving and keeping Europe in the back of my mind. Now I'm finanically confident and Europe is smack frontrow and centre bouncing around ... read more

The City of Burlington resides on the North Side of Lake Ontario with many well developed landscapes & homes that surround the shores of Lake Ontario. If you travel along Lake Shore Road & North Shore Blvd, one will find a vast variety of interesting estates & homes!!! Burlington was at one point known as a vessel destination or a port city. But now the only vessels that venture around the Shores of Burlington are mainly for recreational purposes and all reside out of a small marina located at LaSalle Park in Aldershot. The major landmark for the City of Burlington is the 2.2km long Skyway Bridge, in which separates the Hamilton Harbour/Bay from the rest of Lake Ontario!!! In the forming of the City of Burlington, many settlers arrived as the result of the American ... read more

I really need to come up with a list of the clothes I am taking. Yes, I know, good way to introduce my blog, but sincerely if you know me and the size of my closet you would recognize and understand this first statement's importance. Basically the intention of my blog is to keep you all updated as I attempt to explore Europe and maybe some of Asia / Africa. Albeit feels similar to prior years leaving to go back to Nova Scotia there is definitely a certain level of anticipation that is uncommon. My journey will commence (hopefully) on August 26th from Toronto. I say hopefully as I have yet to receive approval for my UK visa, because I applied (a bit) late. From Toronto I'll be flying to Boston to meet up with my ... read more

It is embarassing how much time has passed since I started this blog. I didn't upload the missing photos from Argentina. Ooooops, maybe I will during winter? This blog was suppose to capture symbols of spring in Canada. There were more photos but I don't have them at this moment. The best part of visiting Ontario was catching up with cousins June, Tammy and Jim.... read more

So I officially got my placement: The name of the organization where I will be is called Mother Theresa's Home for the Dying and the Destitute (Nuestra Señora de la Paz) in the La Victoria district in Lima. Hogar Nuestra Señora de la Paz is a center for physically and mentally challenged individuals who are the poorest among the poor and have been abandoned by everyone, including their families. This hospice is part of Mother Theresa’s opus around the world, and has been active in Lima since 1973 in an inner-city area of Lima. There are 52 infants and children in the second floor of the building (the children's ward) and over a hundred adult males in the first level, all of them severely disabled, who depend of the nuns and volunteers for food, hygiene, care ... read more
