Started hiking early again to avoid the worst of the days heat. I drove to 2130 Derry Rd but some recent road work had eliminated the shoulders so there was no where to park. Thankfully I remembered from my last hike there was a school about 1 km back on the trail. So I drove down Mcniven st and than Kilbride St to Kilbride Public school which has public parking. Today's hike was tricky because it was supposed to rain today. I started early and hoped to avoid the worse of the rain. Unfortunately less than 1 hour into my hike it started to rain heavily. Thankfully I had just purchased a Dollarama rain poncho that kept me dry. The first 5 km of the hike was easy flat terrain and I was making good time ... read more

Another hot day of hiking. To avoid the heat as much as I could I started out an hour earlier at 7AM. There is a spot near 3450 Guelph Line Rd you can park on the side of the road. I started my hike in the fields and it was slow going because the trail here is overrun with vegetation. Thankfully it only lasted a few hundred meters. After that you wander around a forest for about a km until you exit the forest and turn right onto Number 1 side rd and than turn left onto Walkers Line Rd. There are only a few trail markers so keep walking until you see the next marker. I have driven down Walkers Line many times over the years and I could see Mount Nemo while driving. I ... read more

Day 10 of my hike. Today would be a hot day but thankfully it was a short hike at 15KM. I drove down to Snake Rd in Burlington. That road is named not because of the snakes that are prevalent but because the road is shaped kinda like of a snake. There is a shoulder area next to the road that you can park your car. As I prepared for my hike I saw a group of mountain bikers heading down the trail. I was impressed they were trying that route because it was not only hot and humid but the trail is quite tricky even on foot. It is hard walking through hot and humid weather. I was sweating a lot even early on. The first 5km of the hike is a series of up ... read more

Day 9 of my hike. I drove down to Dundas Valley Conservation Area to start my hike. The Conservation Area has parking but it costs $10 to park there. After getting my backpack together and stretching I started my hike. It was hot at 27 Degrees Celsius which was slightly cooler from last week but humidity was higher. I walked along the roadway to get out of the parking lot and turned left on Governors and than right onto the Bruce Trail. The first 4km of the hike is through a forested area with a lot of plants growing across the trail. Unfortunately for me this is height of caterpillar season. I kept running into them as I walked along the trail. I was covered with caterpillars after a while. I spent time removing them from ... read more

Thank you Air Canada... So, after a thoroughly messed up day running around like a chicken with no head (organizing the house, taking care of loose ends, etc, i inform Jason that the toilet is plugged - shitter was full - and the basement drain isn't working.) After sorting out those things, we're off to drop the pointy ear'd mennace (Mimby) off to the cat hotel for a month, so the rest of the gang can be in peace at home. Half way there we get a call from someone at Air Canada who Jason was talking to for the last 2 hours about our flights...She says we have good news and bad news, basically EVA gave away 2 of our first class tickets from JFK to Taiwan by mistake and there was no way we ... read more

Happy New Year to my loyal BLOG followers! As promised, I am adding a BLOG entry from my visit home to Canada for the holidays. In summary, it was one of the best Chriistmas' ever! It was great to see friends and family as usual. This year was special because we spent the holidays at Carridge Hill Resort, just north of Barrie Ontario with a tree, turkey and all the trimmings...even SNOW for skiing and boarding, which was scarce everywhere else this holiday. We ate well, played well, and laughed often. A few family and friends joined us over the course of the week. I only took a few photos due to a lapse in energy (cursed with a bad case of laryngitis that kinda wore me out....in addition to the late nights drinking sangria and ... read more

These countries were hand picked by the both of us. We started off listing places we've always imaged ourselves travelling to...we ended up with a list of over 20 cities (those were only the top picks!). After many parental suggestions, blog creeping and internet surfing it came down to these 9 cities, all of which are going to be conquered in only 1 month. London, Barcelona, Valencia, Ibiza, Cinque-Terre, Rome, Santorini, Berlin and Amsterdam. It took us days to finally set in stone the 9 carefully selected cities, now we had to plan. We had to be realistic, there was no way we were going to be free spirits and hop on a plane, a train or a bus whenever the time felt right, we had 9 cities to get to, explore, and enjoy, there had ... read more

On Wednesday around 3:00 local time our plane from Heathrow arrived in Toronto and our team made it home safe and sound...all but our luggage! Glad it was here that we didn't have our luggage and not in Zambia. I ended up getting my suitcase at 5:00pm on Thursday so it wasn't a huge deal! So to recap our last days in Zambia... On Thursday night we had 2 guests for dinner, the 2 guys from Lifesong came again and it was great spending some more time with them. Friday was our last work day and there was much to do but it would be a short day as another group was going to visit Care and Compassion. Many of us spent our time but a mixture on the lumbar, this mixture was painted on to ... read more

Well it's the day before my big trip and I've been busy packing and making sure it all fits and hopefully I don't go over the 50lb limit. Fortunately we are allowed to take 2 checked bags but since some of the team that already left lost their bags enroute I'm thinking to just check 1 bag and take the 2 carry ons. I've received many well wishes and prayers from many different people about this trip and so thankful for it! This truly is an amazing opportunity and one I thank God for. I'm excited to keep this blog of my travels and trip and hope that I will be able to update it each day with mostly pictures but I will have to see how the technology works over there. Today I'm using my ... read more

Well, I am less than a week away from my furthest destination! It's very exciting thinking about all that is in store for me and the team as we work in Zambia. I finished getting all my shots and have filled the prescriptions that I need to take along. I did some shopping for clothing that is suitable for the climate, culture and that I can leave there. Talize is a great store for that! There are 15 of us on this work trip, 5 are traveling separate than the rest of the team and leaving earlier that us but the 10 of us will be leaving next Monday evening, August 1st. We leave Toronto at 8:40pm and arrive in London (Heathrow) at 8:35 am (local time) it's a 7 hr flight. We will spend the ... read more
