Hey guys! Four days here and soooo much to talk but not really the time to write it all down… Just a summary: IT IS GREAT!!! The hotel is amazing! My colleagues are amazing! The site is amazing! Vancouver is amazing! Actually, everything is amazing! Friday evening after checking in we spent the rest of the night at the hotel bar. Saturday breakfast at the crew restaurant of the HHH followed by a tour of the area (we are located right next to the Richmond O-ZONE). The construction builders had fallen behind schedule so there were not many things to do over the weekend. I’ve been working on the exterior lighting on Saturday, so if you’ll see the exterior of the Holland Heineken House on television, I’ve been the one who’s made the lights orange! :D ... read more

So I'm in Richmond! This is about my 5th time to Canada so I'm quite familiar with Richmond and Vancouver area. I've done most of the general tourist stuff like the Capilano bridge, Grouse Mountain and Whistler. So for this trip, I don't have any major things to do, but would like to meet more local Canadians and maybe explore less touristic spots. I found an article in the local free newspaper called Richmond News and there was an article about 2 Kwantlen University students doing fundraising for their field trip to Barcelona as part of their interior design course. I've always had a side interest in interior design so I've emailed them to see if I could interview them for my travel blog to talk about design and to chat about life in Vancouver. I ... read more

This is the first day of my 5 week holiday to Canada and USA to visit my relatives and friends. This trip initially came about because my mum (Ivy) decided to spend a couple of months to help my grandmother (My Dad's mother) in Richmond, just next to Vancouver. My grandmother is now 86 and is having difficulty doing things by herself, so mum has come to help around the house as we start to make arrangements to get help for her locally. So I thought this would be a great opportunity to catch up with the relatives again and to see my friends Martha and Jackson who live in Virginia, USA. Besides my Grandmother, I have a few Aunts and Uncles in North America. They are all on my father's side. My Father (Bin Hooi) ... read more

Last day in richmond with lots of fond memories. There was lots of good eating. Wrapped up my stay with a visit to a gelateria with 218 flavors. Yes, that's right 218 flavors. YUMO!!!! Between the seafood and dim sums and Chinese food, the stomach is fulfilled! And I am ready to head back home. My pants can't take it any more! The gardens in the Nitobe Memorial Gardens were very serene and the canopy walk in the botanical gardens were fun and "adventurous." All in all, this was a tame trip by touristy standards but then again, I guess that's what 2nd time around is all about.... Good eating... read more

I visited one of the most historic fishing villages in British Columbia. It was the Steveston Village, located in the city of Richmond. Steveston Village is a popular tourist destination, with two National Historic Sites of Canada; the Gulf of Georgia Cannery and the Britannia Heritage ShipyardPark. In the past, Steveston Village was well known as one of the largest fishing cannery distributor of British Columbia. It held a record of shipping 24-million pounds of canned salmon overseas. Located on the Shore of Fraser River, Steveston Village was the perfect spot for fishermen to conduct businesses with the locals. The freshly caught seafood has gained popularity attracting visitors from different cities. I arrived to Steveston Village early in the morning. The seafood is at the freshest during this time. There were many public parking spaces available ... read more

Hi Hi Hi Today we slept til approx. 1 pm given we went to bed so late. Ate breakfast at Denny's. Then stopped for gas and water and such and on the road to make the long drive home. We stopped at lots of truck stops this whole driving trip -- they have clean bathrooms and lots of stuff for sale -- totally weird stuff like this one we stopped in that had a gun case for sale next to some pretty pearl necklace as the deals of the week. The stores have lots of trucking stuff (blankets with trucking scenes), hunting stuff (knives, gun cases, etc.) and then other stuff (like the pearl necklace which would be perfect for this one guy that was in the store and asking his buddy what he was going ... read more

Geo: 49.1632, -123.137This morning left Lytton about 9-30am. Not in a hurry to ever visit there again! Set out to drive to Vancouver. The road ran along side the mighty Fraser River and the scenery was fine, the river and the pine-covered mountains along the way. Went through the town of Hope which led to inevitable puns about living in Hope and the town which springs eternal!!.Once on the Freeway it was an easy but boring drive into Vancouver. With the help of my magnificent map reading Fletcher navigated his way into downtown Vancouver. However, there was not a motel to be seen. We drove on towards the Seattle road and after much fruitless searching arrived in Richmond where near the airport we found the motels in a cluster!!. We have booked into the Travelodge for ... read more
