Our trip to Lethbridge was short and sweet, but eventful none the less. We stayed with Christian's Cousin Eric and his wife Oleta, and they were great to us. An amazing home cooked meal every supper, and great company all around. Eric even had Christian out working with him one day, which Christian thought was amazing. Eric owns and runs his own renovation business and Christian loves tinkering with carpentry stuff. Eric and Christian also went to see a WHL game between the Lethbridge Hurricane and the Medicine Hat Tigers the second night we were there. Meanwhile I mostly hung around with Oleta and Susan (Eric and Oleta's Daughter) and Susan's cute little baby boy Nash. Christian and I also did some more hot yoga while we were in Lethbridge which really helps to keep the ... read more

Today we left the mountains of Montana and went out onto the plains. There wasn't much wildlife, but the horses are sleek and fat! There were lots of horses and cattle. Nancy enjoyed identifying new wildflowers the last few days, but she wondered how many new ones she was missing as we barrelled up the road! Our goal was to get into Canada today. It took us about an hour to get through the border. We bought whiskey at the duty-free store. Then we had to go through immigration to declare the shotgun and pay for its permit. It was actually a painless border crossing, but thorough. We continued on up the highway and noticed that southern Alberta looks a lot like northern Montana. That's odd how a different country could look so like ours. Hmm. ... read more

We got on the road from Calgary on time today.....a first for us! The drive down to L.A. was about 1.5 hours and it was sunny and clear and a beautiful day. We arrived in L.A. around 5 pm and had a tee time for 6:30 pm. Ok, ok...it was Lethbridge, Alberta and the club was a small 9 hole course on an irrigation reservoir on the prairie of southern Alberta. The clubhouse screwed up and our tee time was not available as there was a tournament in progress that was full of duffers who were even worse, and much drunker, than we were (we weren't drunk at all!). So we sat and had a sandwich and then at about 7:15 there were finally a couple of carts for us to use and we hit the ... read more

Day 53. Thursday. It was a rainy day when me auf brother Raule... I miss those commercials. I have no idea where that came from. I got up around 0930hrs due to nature screaming. I had looked up an oil change place the day I arrived so I already knew where I was going, problem is the GPS map is too old and there is no street listing where I was headed so I entered in the street name and the highest number it showed. As the GPS was taking me right past the street I needed to turn at I spotted the place and made a quick U-turn. Now the guy may know exactly what he is talking about but right away he starts in "you should run synthetic because...", and then the fuel pressure ... read more

Day 52. 14,615Km Today was the first day I used the AC in the truck. Summer may finally be here. I need to get the oil changed in the Dodge again so I needed to get to a descent sized city. Lethbridge or Medicine Hat were my destinations of choice depending on when I got going and how long I wanted to drive. Calgary was just too obvious and besides, I was there on the trip out. Leaving Sundre, Hwy 2 would have been the quickest route South but you've probably noticed by now I don't always take the fastest route. They tend to be boring. I got on Hwy 22 which goes right through Sundre and headed South. In places you can see the straight road as far as you can see. Something I have ... read more

Alaskans have been referring to us as being from "down below." So we assume they think they're from "up above." How does that make you feel?? Yes, me too! So we're leaving and going "down below." We left the bears in Hyder, AK to cross British Columbia on the Yellowstone Highway, heading toward Jasper National Park. We held up in Prince George longer than expected to avoid the crowds celebrating the BC summer holiday at Jasper. Actually there was not a campground to be found there. We enjoyed having wi-fi provided by the park and looked forward to having amenities like phone and computer reception again. (Our last phone reception was in Tok, AK., over a week ago.) We enjoyed a hike with Harley in the “Forrest of the World,” assumedly named by ones who loved ... read more

Hi All, It was time for some time off the bike, so Christoph and Iris and myself rented a car here in Lethbridge and headed north into the Canadian Rockies. Stopped at Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump park to view a cliff edge in the foothills where for 6 thousand years aboriginal peoples have stampeded buffalo herds over a cliff to provide their winter food supply. From there, we drove to Jasper and then to Banff. Beautiful country with lots of wildlife; bear, coyotes, mountain sheep, elk, marmots and badgers. A few short hikes including a hike up the Athabaska glacier to get a view of the Columbia ice field. Unfortunately we didn't get the best views as we had low clouds and rain all but the last day. After a week sealed in climate controled ... read more

Baseball has always been a featured sport in our community. Over the last four years, the old baseball stadium has been totally renewed through the motivational efforts of a few individuals linked with a great deal of work by volunteers and committees. A baseball acadamy has been inaugurated in our high school and is attracting great players. The Acadamy team, the Vauxhall Jets, has received great respect from baseball entusiasts. The long-standing other team of players aged 15-19, the Vauxhall Spurs, involved each season with the American Legion Montana State "A" League continue to succeed, benefitting from the acadamy influence. This week, Vauxhall has been chosen as the first Canadian community to host the State Championship Tournament, thus testing the new stadium's full capabilities for the first time. By my obseravtions, it has passed with flying ... read more

Camp is nearing the end!!! This upcoming week we will be going on a 3 day out trip with nothing but packs on our backs and the mountains all around us... God has been so good to us, with 7 amazing Prisms and so much to teach and learn. The bears were visiting camp frequently, but have seemed to have found other outlets, although we can't seem to kick the mosquito infestation... Camp is running smoothly and although staff are getting run a bit ragged and starting to get sick, the campers each week come and have an amazing time. Until next time, Amy & Mike ... read more
