So after an 18 hour bus trip from Anchorage back in to Canada.. 2 nights in a northern town called whitehorse... then a 36 hour bus trip down to Jasper... i was home- well back in the rockies anyhoo!!! Man it felt nice to see my mountains again! Looking through photos really shows me the beauty of this place and how lucky i've been to spend all this time here :-) We spent 3 nights in Jasper (bout 3 hours north of Banff) And here we went to the Maligne Canyon and Lake.. Wow this was so pretty! Because of all the snow we got through winter the canyon was flowing fast and hard! It was cool to see it like this and not all frozen! And the lake was just awesome! It was nice ... read more

Our trip to date couldn't be better or have gone more smoothly. The sites are simply breathtaking and the travel easy and stress free. Our first day of travel took us north to the Big Horn National Forest, Wyoming, 420 miles away from Denver. We stayed at a nice, quiet camp site along a rushing river. Day two we chugged accross the beautiful state of Montana. 600 miles later, we reached Glacier National Park. We stayed at Two Medicine Campground where the sites were nice. The weather was getting colder so we let Chong stay in the tent with us (added warmth and decresed space). Upon leaving the park we saw to moose. Let me(Ted) be the first to say Montana is absolutly beautiful; the expances of land, high speed limits, and few people make ... read more

Border Crossing No problem with crossing into Canada. There were more questions about weapons and guns than I remember being asked in the past. There were the usual alcohol questions, but no real questions about food or wood. Cost of things in Canada The exchange rate at a bank on June 11th was $1.0391 US for every $1.00 Canadian. We exchanged $100 US at a bank in Canmore, Alberta. There was a $3 fee for the exchange, so we ended up with $100.91 Canadian. Most stores accept US dollars as an even exchange, so it’s really not worth changing funds to Canadian at this time, but it is nice to carry some local currency. Gas today in Jasper was $1.129/liter which h is about $4.12/gallon US. Diesel was $.889/liter which is about $3.24/gallon US. We don’t ... read more

I'm here for a third day in Jasper, was supposed to leave in the wee hours of the morning, but there's just too much to see here to leave so soon. My next destination was West Edmonton Mall- not usually my thing, but it's a big ass mall, worth seeing, I think, so maybe in the next couple of days. Back-tracking, I was in Vancouver, and got a good taste of the city. April, Kristyn and I jumped on a bus for a wild weekend in Whistler villlage (more wild for the other girls- geez, can they drink!). I went on a zipline tour of the ancient coastal temperate rain forests, basically a bunch of mega flying foxes up on Whistler/Blackcomb mountains- 'twas OK, but I'm finding it hard to get any kind of adrenaline rush ... read more

Jasper Revisited The Columbia Ice Field Highway, Jasper, Lake Louis and Banff are places to be revisited Fifteen years later the town is much as it was. The tourist office and the railroad station are in the same place; as are the tracks. The shops have increased in number and the facilities offered seem to have been extended. Only few views are familiar. The truck arrived early thru morning rain and after a rained on breakfast of eggs and toast. For a second night we had camped at the side of the road...this time on a logging trail. The fire was built in a sandy clearing where cut trees had already been burnt. The tents were pitched on the flatness of the road. Huge transports struggling up a mountain grade was the nightlong lullaby. A ... read more

Michelle and I went on a road trip to Jasper and to check out the local canyon and waterfalls along the way. First up was Mistaya Canyon. These falls had formed a deep canyon over the past 10,000 years and the erosion had left these cool boulders behind with freezing water plowing through. All the waterfalls and rivers are glacier fed so there is definetely no popping in for a quick dip. We took ice crampons which came in handy at times. We then trekked on to Peyto lake which I really wanted to see but unfortunately its still frozen. I've seen photos with the mountains in the reflection of this cool blue lake. We moved on to Jasper where we spent the night in our shitty hotel. Just look ate photo of me in ... read more

Now Banff is an amazing little town with so much beauty, but this wasnt enough for me.... i was getting itchy feet and wanted to do some more exploring. So Bianca and I convinced a friend of ours Haydn (who had just busted his ankle boarding and was bored of sitting round) To drive us to a little town three hours away called Jasper. The drive there is rated as one of the top ten drives in the world... so we were all really excited.... but just our luck- the day we left it was cloudy, misty and snowing... ah great we wont see much, oh well the misty atmosphere was actually quite enchanting. We could see the start of mountains... just not the top. The road was covered in snow and we were reduced ... read more

Its been a while since ive written, but to be honest not all that much has been happening. Id gotten into the habit of working 11 days in Fort Mcmurray then spending my 3 days off with Jesse in Edmonton. But about 3 weeks ago i got a visit from my parents. My dad has work to do in Florida and so he and my mom went there via Edmonton. They were here for 3 days and I tried to show them as much of the sights as i could. The other thing that has happened since i last wrote is that id bought a new car. I bought it over a month earlier from British Colombia and got it sent to Edmonton by train. Of course i had no idea the railway union would ... read more

Flying from Belfast to London, Lindsey and I spent a few days just outside of London in Egham with Joanna who is studying there. We enjoyed the sites and sounds of London during the day..and during the nights spent time with Joanna in the student district of Egham. After a sad departure from London and a long but entertaining (the plane had personal tvs) flight we were back in Edmonton. Strange to be back in the snow but really nice to see family! Heading almost straight from the airport to Jasper it was like I was placed right back where life left off! Spending a few days up in Jasper snowboarding and then back to Edmonton for the week! ... read more

Escape From Edmonton Edmonton "Maul" + Boxing Day Sales = Bad Idea! We really would have loved to spend a day at the water park and it might have been a good idea too in hindsight as we had quite a time trying to locate accomodation in Jasper! But the trick with the waterpark is that it has an early bird special that is more a "mid-day" special ideally engineered to force families to spend an extra night in Edmonton to get great value. If you rock up between 12noon and 4pm it's only $11...before or after that time entry is nearly $40...big difference! So we cut our losses and scarpered...next stop Jasper. Never use cruise control in cold environments! Driving to Jasper from Edmonton is very uneventful. Wayne got a bit of a shock when ... read more
