Hey Hey The Stampede is now all finnished. It was a full on ten days and heaps of fun. I was working at a bar in the grandstand where they have the rodeo and the Chuck wagon races so it was always busy with heaps of people drinking and having a good time. I meet some great people and had a wicked time. It's hard to describe the Stampede it was masive, just think of American movies with country fair's in them and then times it by ten.....MASSIVE. All the days have kind of merged in to a hazzy blur of working, drinking, dancing, singing, eating and a bit of sleeping. My favourite night out was at Nashville North with Kate and dancing to country songs. Other highlights where going to my first proper gay bar, ... read more

It's Sunday. I'm packing my suitcases and bags for the trip. I will be traveling to Edmonton on the bus at 9:00 AM, Monday morning. Last November (2004), I purchased an International Student Identity Card (ISIC) for $16.00CA from my travel agent at the university. Holders of an ISIC normally receive exclusive travel discounts with companies such as Greyhound and VIA rail. The details on the card -- such as the institutional affiliation, birth-date, name, and the yearly expiration date -- are normally printed on a special holographic, plastic film. Unfortunately, the printer was not working at the travel office -- so the agent hand-wrote the details on the film instead. I should have said something at the time, because the card did not look very authentic in the end. Instead, I smiled and nodded as ... read more

Hi Everyone, Just thought I should update this quickly. I arrived home July 7th and have kept it quiet so I could surprise my parents which I did today...and they were quite surprised! Prior to coming home I spent a week in Sydney just wandering around and seeing the sites before the long flight home. Any way, I'm sure I will catch up with you all at some point. Take care, michelle... read more

Canada Day 2005 found me jet-lagged after far too many hours without sleep and far too few hours of sleep, sitting on Calgary's version of Rome's and London's Metro/Underground system, thinking that this was the slowest possible train in Canada. After the rollicking speed of the metro trains in Italy and England, jet aircraft may be considered slow but, in this case, believe me, Calgary's LRT trains literally crawl by comparison. When a Roman metro train pulls into a station, everyone hangs on for dear life as the G forces deccelerate so quickly. When a Calgary LRT train leaves the station, it probably comes close to the above mentioned deccelerated speed. If a Calgarian transit driver moved to Rome, he'd probably have a heart attack the first day of work! If a Roman metro driver moved ... read more

On Monday, June 13th, I will be heading out from Calgary for a two-month excursion to SE Asia (Brunei, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Laos), Australia, and Fiji. This will involve at least 14 different flights. I've just come back from a weekend church retreat and am very sore from playing sports. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y131/RidesOnWaves/mini-retreat.jpg Imagine how my body will feel when sitting through a grueling 23-hour flight (albeit two stopovers)! I already miss my friends, as surely as they miss me. Love you all! ... read more

Some of our public seem to be a little confused about where the Grandmas are these days, so this is to let you all know what's up. The Grandmas are flying solo now. Margo is in PEI making a presentation at a conference. Her plans are to return to England soon, meet her cousin Carolyn, and travel with Carolyn to France and Belgium to visit WWI battlefields and cemeteries - more research, personal and academic. I'm sure she'll keep you all informed in her unique style. As for me (Les), I'm back home in Calgary. Jack and I are planning a trip mid-June to Saskatchewan, "land of the living skies", touring in the south and visiting family in the Qu'Appelle Valley. From ancient Rome to medieval Siena to Renaissance Florence to New World prairie in 2 ... read more
