As my first entry, I have to say that the anticipation of going on my dream excursion to the Mediterranean is getting intense. I have been working hard at work and am feeling a desire to turn it all off. That time is about to happen very shortly. I cannot wait! My mom is flying in tomorrow at 3:00 pm in Calgary. It will be nice to see her and feel the excitement together. I guess I better tidy up the house a bit. :-) 2 more sleeps... then off to Athens on my newest adventure... ... read more

The beginningIt is only 4 days until we are off on our adventure!! I'm not sure what to expect .... what kind of food will i eat? (my mom says lots of rice!) How will we talk to the people we meet? Will we understand eachother?? (my mom says kindness is universal - and a smile is the same in any language!) What kinds of things will i see and do? Only time will tell .... stay tuned!!!... read more

Geo: 51.1942, -113.602There was a big traffic jam at breakfast - tons of people staying at this hostel. There was a big lineup to use the toasters - they were the automatic conveyor belt type. It took forever because people didn't realize they could put their bread in immediately after the previous person, but instead waited for them to be completely done first. I would have liked some cereal too but the line for that was too long, and I wanted to get out of the hostel and have a walk before going to the airport. There was some kind of Spanish high school group staying at the hostel - a group to keep an eye on not for their academic abilities, but because it was a big group of future Spanish hotties! Ahhh ... to ... read more

Just a quick entry today. I just received my passport in the mail today. It feels so much closer now that I know all I have to do is buy a ticket and I can hop on the first flight out. Their is really only one thing actually holding me here now and that's the money plus the ticket. More to come...... read more

Geo: 50.8446, -113.878Ahhh ... traveling again ... it feels nice but it's funny because I really haven't been very excited about this trip. I think I've been spoiled the past few years - anything less than a month feels like a short weekend getaway! Though I hadn't even left yet I was already imagining returning home - I saw the ending before it even began, if that makes sense! And for that reason I saw no reason to get excited ... until today! I couldn't sit still at work and had a lot of nervous energy. So I stuffed myself on Spolumbo's sandwiches and potato salad that were served at a lunch and learn. My nervous energy was converted into a bubbling cauldron of stomach acid, slowly decomposing Genoa salami, marinara sauce, and provolone cheese! I ... read more

The Battle of Alberta So it finally worked out that on my one-year anniversary weekend in Canada, I got to see some ICE HOCKEY! Canadians are quick to point out that no-one says 'ice' - its implied because apparently its the only 'real' hockey. Dont even try and tell them that Australians are olympic gold medalists in field hockey - its not worth the ridicule. Anyway, we headed into Calgary (the closest city to Banff about a 1 1/2 hour drive away) We were lucky enough to have some friends with some sweet hook-ups and got discounts on really nice hotel rooms in downtown Calgary, a limo to take us to the game, pick us up and then take us to a downtown bar. The game was brilliant. The two teams playing were the Edmonton ... read more

Hey everyone. This is my first blog entry of many that will probably start in September. As some of you who know me, I'll be heading out to New Zealand/ Australia with my girlfriend, Charlotte in September. We'll be backpacking New Zealand for a month or more and then we'll be traveling all over Australia until we find a place we like most and will be settling down and working/living there for the remainder of the year. The trip itself will be in September and will be lasting for a year (longer if all goes well). I honestly can't wait to go. You'll probably see a few more blog entries before September just to update you on the preparation of the trip. Well, so far, everything is going according to plan. I've sent away for my ... read more

This entry is only short as this place sucked and I was in so much pain! I was in Calgary for a day, the hostel was like a cell, the people sucked, it was cold, the wind chill got the better of me, it was overcast, there was nothing to do and I was in the most ammount of pain due to my stupid tongue piercing!!! I arrived on the Tuesdday late evening, I stayed all day Wednesday day and night and was supposed to leave early Thursday morning. I missed my bus due to having the wrong time settings on my mobile and had to wait 5 hours in the bus terminal with brain freeze due to sucking on too much ice! Not the best time however, it was worth it for all that ... read more

Well we spoiled ourselves and went to the zoo in Calgary. We choose Sunday for the buffet brunch that they put on. And boy did we make a good choice it was the best meal we have had since we left home. It even had a chocolate fountain which you can dip the fresh strawberries in. However at minus three for the day and snowing it was a freezing day to be at the zoo. The Australian area was really weird. They had kangaroos in a snow filled enclosure and cane toads in their own huge really nice enclosure. ... read more

I have really got into ice-hockey since I have in Canada. Its such a fast game and enjoyable to watch. However they take breaks at random moments to allow for American trailers. This game was the Calgary Flames vs Detroit Red Wings who were last years NHL winners. The Flames won 3-1. Not quite International day at Cardiff atmosphere but the atmosphere does get quite electric. ... read more
