Welllll what a day. We originally set the alarm for 6am, snoozed til 7am, snoozed til 8am, realised the sun wouldn’t come up til 8:50am, so then officially woke up at 9am. We got the shuttle down to the village (also I asked how we get the shuttle back and they’re actually drop off only, so every time we go to the village we’ll have to do the gruelling, icy walk home) and headed straight to the rental store. We got fitted, paid (which by the way, holy MOLY skiing ain’t cheap), and did the gruelling, icy walk home, but this time carrying skis, poles, boots, helmets and pants. Once again, in freezing, -16 degree weather, it got way too hot. We had to organise a few things before we left, like our lift passes and ... read more

Hello my friends, I am happy to announce my arrival in Canada. This morning I landed at the Calgary International Airport. Upon my arrival I was taken to my friend's house, who willingly lodged me for a week. On the road I could see magnificent landscapes, mountains, forests, wild animals such as bear and caribou. Canada has a real ecosystem that the people want to protect. Indeed, I could see animal bridges to avoid accidents with animals and I find this design very important to protect animals. When I arrived at my friend John's, I was happy to see him again, we talked a lot and told him that he was fighting ecological damage, for his garden, he uses no chemical fertilizers but only nature fertilizers. He also told me that he hunted a maximum of ... read more

I'll start by saying Merry Christmas to everyone, may the festive season be a safe and happy one, with good food and even better company. We both have been very busy the last few weeks. Gretchen working hard behind the counter of the Ski School desk, taking bookings and making sure all the tourists, young and old learn to ski. I've had my first few proper days instructing people to snowboard, youngsters from Calgary, blokes from Brisbane and a family for the south, Georgia, USA. Last week I also passed my Level 1 Freestyle Instructors course, much tougher than my Level 1 instructors, this extra qualification helps me take more advanced boarders into the terrain park and also beginner jumps and tricks. The best part definitly being my own riding improving so much! I've also taken ... read more

The Adventures continue!!!! I have now arrived in Calgary after making the 6 hour drive from Saskatoon along straight endless roads with nothing but country side to see. Calgary is an awesome city. Not much for the backpacker to see but a good industrial city which hosts nothing but blue skies and an awesome view of the Rocky Mountains. I think I have found the place I want to work for the time I am in Canada!!!! and as a result i have bought a ski season pass which i am so excited about. I cant wait to hit the slopes! Calgary is extremely close to the rocky mountains so our first port of call was a climb up the biggest peak over looking all the mountains and the town of Canmore. It was a long ... read more

The Hills are alive ... It took me a while but I can proudly say I climbed a mountain (or part of at least, a BIG part too ) while in Banff. Mandy and I had been eyeing off the green patch on the side of Norquay for a while over summer and we finally made it, typically on my second last day in Banff, but it was brilliant! We dubbed the 'Sound of Music Hill' becuase of its green patch-iness and decided the hike therefore wouldn't be complete without a red and white checked table cloth (the origins of said cloth I cannot disclose as the evidence may incriminate me and deplete my pay check) and a picnic. So we trekked up and up and up. It was steep and it hurt my poor little ... read more
