In exactly 48 hours I will be blasting off to Abu Dhabi! Abu Dhabi is the largest of the seven emirates that comprise the United Arab Emirates and was also the largest of the former Trucial States. It is also the location where Garfield occasionally sends Nermal. The reason for this is because the city of Abu Dhabi, and the majority of UAE, has a large amount of stray cats. Garfield would often put the kitten Nermal in a box and ship him to Abu Dhabi. The phrase "Abu Dhabi is where all the cute kittens go" is sometimes used in the comic. Abu Dhabi, it's far away Abu Dhabi, that's where you'll stay Abu Dhabi, the place to be For any kitten who's annoying me, yeah! Abu Dhabi, it's off the track Abu Dhabi, now ... read more

I am traveling to Abu Dhabi for one month to work with one of my company's clients there, teaching doctors and nurses how to use our software. I am thrilled to have this opportunity and cannot wait to share stories and photos with you from my journey to the Middle East! I am certain that I will not leave there without a sunburn, too many souvenirs, fond memories, and a new perspective. Check this blog for updates and photos. Fun facts about Abu Dhabi: *There is a 9 hour time difference from Kansas City to the UAE. *The average temperature there in the summer months is 110 degrees...which means it sometimes gets hotter than that. Um...that's hot. *It is a Muslim society, but travelers are not required to wear traditional Middle Eastern dress. However, dressing conservatively ... read more

Just Imagine that you've set off overseas to seek your fortune in the Land of Black Gold. You are a skilled machinist and you set up in a little workshop in Musaffah. You are proud of your skills on a lathe so you name your establishment accordingly, so the "Accurate Turning Workshop" is born. All is well and business is booming, you've been able to afford a few acetylene bottles and have a whole yard full of swarf, welding cables and other engineering type stuff. So imagine the horror when you turn up on your Honda C50 one morning to find that set up right next door to you is the Perfect Turning Workshop! Who in their right mind is going to drive past a perfect place to give their business to someone who is just ... read more

Every now and again you come across a sign that is so profound that it not only gives instruction specific to its intended purpose, but can actually give instruction for your whole life. Consider these three instructions seen on the side of a dustcart. "DO NOT WALK OR STAND IN THE WALKING ZONE OF THIS MACHINE" In this instance, the "walking zone" zone is quite clearly a metaphor for life. This means that life is for living, not for walking or standing in. "DO NOT OPEN THE MACHINE WHILE RUNNING" I can't see why you would, unless the machine was a running speed "DO NOT WORK ON RUNNING ORGANS" I hope this hasn't been muddled up with a warning sign from the local cardiac unit.... read more

I know, I know. Poking fun at people's lack of understanding of the English language is not exactly Oscar Wild level wit, but this is Standard Chartered Bank and they have a network of over 1,400 branches in more than 50 countries, so you think they'd know better. Apart from the slogan, I like the imagery of a man hastily grabbing at another man's crotch area. Who doesn't?... read more

Today I had to go up to Abu Dhabi to do a presentation to a potential client on sustainability (yes it has been a very busy time recently). Anyway on the way up there I managed to take some photos of the new grand mosque that they are building out of the window of the car. The thing is just ENORMOUS!... read more

Holly Arrives!!! Holly got here last night, mum drove the new space ship to Dubai where we waited patiently for her little smiling face to emerge from the sea of people in Dubai. Now i feel like the trip is really begining rather than just being on holiday at Hotel Cartwright! The sun has decided to come out, the skies now look how A.D. skies should look - BLUE!! I keep telling Owain that its better to have a lack of sunshine at the begining of the hols and loads of sunshine at the end rather than the other way round, that way he can make everyone jealous of his lovely golden tan in the middle of winter! I thought I should include a few facts about Abu Dhabi: (mostly taken from wiki. and from Emma's ... read more

Check out iz otkvačeno skupog mediokritetnog Novotela ... read more

20.01.2008. 21.30, soba 813, Novotel Hotel, Abu Dhabi Zadnji dan je ispao opušten i simpatičan, pogotovo zbog slučaja samonavođenja koji mi se još nije dogodio (tajno krivim ukletu sobu da me privukla). No krenimo redom. Oni s više love nose kozne, a najamni radnici plastične šlape) i odurnim nepostrizenim noktom na palcu desne noge stalno češao lijevu, ... read more
