The time has come to say goodbye to this lovely palace and all that goes with it! The property truly is stunning as are the majority of the nearly one thousand staff. But with anything this big there comes politics and in fighting and this is what I cannot stand about this place. Can and will any hotel ever stack up to this one? But believe me it is only beautiful on the outside. I would rather work in a smaller property where I can actually do my job and enjoy my work! I am still in talks with The Rotana group in Dubai and if all goes well then I should start at The Al Bustan Rotana in about three weeks. A smaller property that deals in mainly corporate business. More managable at 275 ... read more

We got our new car on Thursday (5 door Jeep Wrangler!) so we decided to take it for a bit of a spin up to Abu Dhabi to wear it in a little bit. The drive to Abu Dhabi was not the world's most interesting. There was sand, more sand and then some more sand. They do seem to have a fettish for fencing over here and there was kilometre after kilometre as incredibly expensive fencing along the side of the road. The need for this was cleared up a little bit when I discovered that it was the fence for one of the Abu Dhbai Palaces. In Abu Dhabi we visited the Emirates Palace, which is supposed to be Abu Dhabi's answer to the Burj Al Arab. It didn't really wow me I have to ... read more

Some more randomness from my life here. Some from a palace tour I done for some friends and more from the Rugby ball... My last day is now confirmed as the 22nd! At this stage I am taking a job with the Rotana group in Dubai but if that falls through then I'm heading back to Oz. ... read more

On my way home the other day I stopped at the traffic lights outside Abu Dhabi Mall. As I sat there, some daft sod who was on the phone and not paying attention stepped off the pavement, walked right into my front wing and fell over in front of my car. As he went down he tried to grab my bonnet to stabilise himself, but in doing so he managed to get himself into a position where he was right underneath my vehicle. Next thing you know there is shouting rabble that have heard a bit of a kerfuffle, seen this bloke under my car, put two and two together, made five and now think I've run this pillock over. Luckily there was a copper nearby and some Arab bloke who saw what happened so ... read more

Hi all, Well finally some fun photo's of me out and about this city. Derryn and I recently went to the Rugby Ball and had a ball. Meeting some great people and really starting to enjoy life here. Pictured is Kate (blonde) and her friend Georgie. We met Kate at the Netball Ball and is always a tonne of fun to hang out with. The tequila was flowing and a lot of it was flowing to the floor or down peoples legs as a few couldn't take it! A fun night was had by all, and can't wait for the next one!... read more

Can you believe that it's been 13 years since the film Stargate was released? The subtext of a right wing imperialist government wanting to control a powerful global resource by use of gung-ho force, superior fire power and technology while completely misunderstanding a culture with thousands of years of history in the wake of the first Gulf War wasn't exactly subtle, but the blend of science fiction and history made it an unusually enjoyable Hollywood flick. Plus it had the hot tranny from The Crying Game in it. Alas, as so often happens with any half decent concept (apart from Firefly) the vultures get in there and the low budget TV spin-offs kick in. Stargate SG-1 (the same plot as the film every week), Stargate Alantis (the same as SG-1 but underwater and with a ... read more

Desert Safari Middle East » United Arab Emirates » Abu Dhabi By ChapoApril 22nd 2007Scott FINALLY OUT AND ABOUT!!! Well life is getting a little easier here with the new manager now in place and half the hotel off my hands. Delegations are slowing down and we only have a Queen and two Princesses in house at the moment! So I've had some time to start partying a bit and to see some sights. Went out to the desert the other day with some work mates to do some sand dune bashing. An interesting experience sliding sideways down a 60 foot high sand dune at full throttle! Then to a camp for a BBQ, belly dancing and of course some Shee... read more

With the UAE economy booming, evidence of money is everywhere. If its not an audacious tower block or leisure development then it's on the streets in the form of top end cars with blacked out windows and 3 digit plates, blinged and tweaked. Among the myriad of Range Rovers, Porsches, Lambourghinis, Rollers, Maybachs, Mercs, Hummers, Cadallacs, Beamers, Infinitys and Lexus..er..is, it is hard to make you ride stand out from the crowd. But these boys have got the cash to flash, and they are not frightened to stick on their motor. Apart from that, not much else to say, since Scott n Kat's blog has gone off the air, there's pretty poor viewing on these travel blogs. Have you had a look at any others on this site? Don't bother, it's all "Oooh, look at me, ... read more

Hi all, Well the British royalty is coming in droves. No sooner we get rid of one then his brother turns up! I can't complain as the Aussie big boss turns up next week. Sorry for the lack of out and about photo's but I still have not gotten around to buying a new phone! Only just got a bank account! But still enjoying life here. A very easy existence. Please keep the e-mails coming, they brighten up my indoor days! Love ya all, Scott... read more
