The best part of Turkey was to come by leavıng Fethıye sooner by 2 days than planned. I was a squeaky wheel to alkabout Travel agency and fınally got transferred to Otogar at 2pm for the 2,30pm bus to Kas. It travelled vıa a small vıllage or three complete wıth locals ınheadscarves wıth bags of shoppıng or harvest. One valley was a mass of glasshouses ıt was as though they were multıplyıng themselves!! Scenıcally thıs area ıs lovely wıth rocky outcrops and turquoıse water shınıng as the sun sets over nearby Greece. The accommodatıon at Ates Pensıon ın Kas ıs good, clean, close to town and swımmıng beach, and after askıng for ıt I got a vıew over the small town. So thıs wıll be my base for 3 nıghts and hope to walk the Lycıan ... read more

Today was the best travel day ever in Turkey! We left on an Anamur Zafer Co bus at 10am in the front two seats. It was a super nice bus and only a 6 hour ride to Antalya. The buses in Turkey are usually amazing and have comfy seats and offer free çay, water, traditional turkish hand sanitizer and snacks. We made it to Antalya and a small Dolmuş was waiting to take people to Olympos. The dolmuş dropped us off in the Olympos Valley but not at our hostel. We waited at this Olimpos Restaurant for more than two hours and it was getting dark and we were getting a bit nervous b/c we did not have reservations. The dolmuş finally came and we arrived at 7pm just in time for dinner at Turkman's Treehouses. ... read more

Our 12 hour bus ride to Anamur was a beautiful and scenic coastal road along the Mediterranean. We arrived in Anamur around noon and took a city bus full of smoking teenagers in school uniforms loving Tages's lip ring to Iskele where our hostel was located. We made it to Esyr's Pansyon where we met the cranky owner Mr Esyr. We told him we would like to stay for a week and he thought we were lying so he told us if we didn't stay a week it would be very dishonest of us and hurt his business. Tages had to shake his hand and give him her word that we would stay. He also told us we couldn't use the kitchen because he thought we would make a mess but I almost started to cry ... read more

Train Left Europe late last night on ferry across Bosphorus to Asia. Boat goes directly to Asian Train Station, a grand 19th century German construction. Great way to enter a continent. Toros Express to Syria was cancelled so I took a train to Adana in south east Turkey. Didn't get a sleeper but that made journey all the better. Passengers more conservative than people in Istanbul and all girls wear headscarves. Met family from Konya comprising of grandmother, two mothers and three grandchildren. One of grandchildren was an english teacher in her mid 20s. Propriety prevented her from speaking to me directly but we communited via her 14 year old male cousin nicknamed Alex (after a Fernebache footballer). Usual chat about family, girlfriends, football etc. His favourite player was Colin Kazim-Richards who I used to ... read more

I'm Deliriously Tired. So, Brad and I both puked on what was a 15 hour bus journey, with three transfers, back from the Mediterranean to Istanbul. Turns out we got a little too cocky- four days of drinking random spring water in the middle of nowhere, no problem, but drinking tap water back in what seemed to be civilization (STORES? Tourists? where the hell are we?!) got us both relatively ill. We are both back in relatively fighting form, we're back in Istanbul, we just made the most delicious dinner anyone has ever eaten so cheaply in Istanbul, and I'm feeling good- except that I think I'm so tired the room is spinning a little bit. In any case, the hike of ours was EXTRAORDINARY. Literally the most beautiful views, the most random and desperate side ... read more

Brad and Sally, on their adventure in Hebron (while I had my adventure of finding my passport), met probably the coolest guy I've ever even heard of in my travels. He was Italian, and his name was Phillipo. Brad asked him: "So, what do you do for a living?" His answer: "I walk." Dude apparently is a pilgrim. A Pilgrim. And that's what he does for a living- he just chills, and walks from place to place. With next to nothing. And yet looks more put together after 2 years of just Walking than we do after a day backpacking. In any case, in honour of Phillipo, Bub and I have made probably our best spontaneous decision ever: *On a day hike near the Meditarranean* "I kind of don't want to go back to Fethiye (village ... read more

Correction to yesterday's entry: the name of the town is Ucagich. The c has a squiggle under it which means it is pronounced as a hard g. (I think) Also, I think I can post a photo so I'll try that. Today was spent walking in the heat of the day to Kale Koy (and back - 45 min each way) where there is a beautiful castle on the hill. We stopped at a cafe in Kale Koy for orange juice and gozleme (Turkish pancake, cooked on a gas fired rounded plate, spread with feta and oregano, folded, cut and eaten). We had been here 2 years ago and the owner, Mustafa, looked after us nicely with tomato and watermelon as well. His cafe overlooked the bay, quite high up, and was wonderfully cool. It's a ... read more

Firstly, I'm sorry can't put any photos up. My computer uses Linux (as opposed to Windows) and I can't manage to post photos. I was going to abandon it but TC's comment regarding her class using this as a learning experience has persuaded me to keep going. I have posted photos on facebook. So now we are in Ugacich, near Kekova Roads which is the site of am sunken city. You can see this if you sail alongside Kekova Adasi (island). You can see steps and walls of old houses, It's quite fascinating. But sadly you can't swim alongside the sunken city. Lonely Planet says you can't photograph but I don't think that's correct. Last night we anchored at a small bay east of here. It isn't named but it is below a town called Kapakli, ... read more
