Day 7 Kusadasi, Turkey After sailing overnight through various Greek islands in the Agean Sea we berthed early morning in the Turkish port of Kusadasi. This port is close to Ephesus, the Agean’s best-preserved ancient city. Layers of silt covered this 2000-year old city over the years and much has been discovered but much is still buried. Associated with Ephesus is the tomb of St John the Apostle, which we visited. As an athiest, you can imagine Geoff’s impression of the claimed house of the Virgin Mary, which we also saw. A very interesting day concluded with open-air buffet lunch and Turkish dancers, followed by a visit to a Turkish carpet sales room where the boss gave a display of his collection and his off-siders attempted to flog the goods - at big prices. Another great ... read more

Hello from Liam in Turkey. Yesterday we went to Mykonos Greece. We went on the island and toured around at about noon. The small roads in Mykonos were so confusing. My mom said they were made to confuse pirates long ago. We ate lunch at a small restaurant in the open air. I had souvlaki. My dad had the same. My mom had roasted tomatoes and Tyler had pasta. When we went up to the windmills we saw a bunch of birds and an old Mykonos house. There were five windmills altogether. On the way down from the windmills we went to a playground. After the playground we started to walk down towards the ship. We got on the ship and then I went to Adventure Ocean until dinnertime. This morning we arrived in Kusadasi, Turkey. ... read more

We love traveling in Turkey. Since it is not yet part of the European Union, it is still a relatively inexpensive tourist destination and it is a place jam packed with ancient ruins, beautiful beaches, lovely villages and great sailing waters. We especially like Kusadasi which is on the west coast of Turkey and strategically located near what is said to be the best preserved classical city in the world. The temple at Ephesus was considered one of the Seven Wonders of World. The Virgin Mary and St John the Baptist stayed in Ephesus after the death of Christ. The Library of Celsus held over 12,000 scrolls and this is where the statuette of Priapus, with his famous appendage, was found. We spent the day with Suzanne, who had a private car tour, compliments of Cruise ... read more
