We drove down to a seaside town called Cesme today to visit the castle of St Peter. Cesme is a lovely little town and the castle was well looked after and very interesting. There was a museum inside that mainly contained nautical exhibits as the castle featured in many famous sea battles. From standing on the battlements we could see across to the Greek Islands - well we were assured by Mum and Dad that we would have been able to if it wasn't raining :) We headed into the village for lunch and had our first Pide which is a bit like a pizza at a small restaurant. We managed to stay fairly day but we were all glad that Mum had packed the umbrellas - thanks Mum. After a walk through the main street ... read more

Geo: 38.3248, 26.3055 GÜN 77 Günlerden Cuma 40 yıldır seyahat ediyorum. Siz deyin 500, ben deyim 1000 kez yurda döndüm. Tepelerde Türk bayrakları... heeeeeeeeeeyt memlekete geldik be... Nereye gidersen git vatanın gibisi yok.. bunu bütün içtenliğimle yazıyorum... 9:00 gibi yanaştık. Kaptanım ve Çarkçıbaşı ile vedalaştık. Gemiyi ilk Şahbaz terk etti. İşlemler tamamlanırken, Liman müdürü, bizi odasınd... read more

İzmir'i by pass ettik . Çine'de tabi ki köftelere daldık. Gözümüz dönmüş. Aracımızı yıkadılar ... read more

After breakfast we walked back over to the port, purchase our insurance, picked up the car and hit the road. After a full day of driving we arrived in Bodrum, a very nice coastal town. There were many nice restaurants, hotels and shops that lined the marina. It’s about 2 or 3 weeks prior to high season so we easily found a great place to stay and nice place for dinner. Not only is this place comparable to some of the southern coastal towns in France it is also a fraction of the price. Very nice stop. News flash- Al’s bag has made it’s way back to L.A. ... read more

We arrived in Chios around 4:30am. We drove off the boat and were soon informed that the next boat leaving for Turkey would not leave at 8am as scheduled but at 4pm. They told us the boat was “broken”. We made the best of it and spent the day exploring the town. We finally loaded the car around 3:30 then watched as the one other car squeezed on board this tiny little ferry. About 45min. later we arrived in Cesme Turkey. We got off the boat and were directed straight to the customs office. This, by the way, is the first time we have gone through customs since we left France. We all got our visas with no problems but were told we would have to wait until morning and purchase Turkish insurance in order to ... read more

Turkey went up another notch! Hello from Cesme, a small village known for windsurfing and gum trees on the Aegean Sea! I flew into Izmir, and had a really funny travel day - Bon and I had been up all night since we had to go to the airport at 6a, so I arrived in the new city bleary eyed, but excited! As soon as i got on the plane, I got out my two favorite travel accessories: my eye/sleeping mask and pillow! I slept the entire way there and woke up surrounded by mountains and another crazy town! Ufuk had hooked me up with the information and reservations, and sure enough, when I got to Izmir, the Havas bus was there for me! They dumped me at a random spot and told a taxi to ... read more

The past two weeks have been eventful, as Kim and I roamed the streets of Athens, island hopped in the Cyclades, visited my cousin in Lamia, and trekked around Central Greece. Alone no longer! Despite a 25 hour trip to Athens, Kimberly was eager to unload her pack at the hostel and conquer the city. We began with a visit to the agora, then ascended the Acropolis, and finally visited the Temple of Olympic Zeus. The afternoon was highlighted by visiting the Greek National gardens and the Panathenaic stadium, which was the location of the first modern Olympic games. Bright and early the next morning, we departed Pireaus which is the main ferry hub in Greece and largest port in the Mediterranean. Our destination, Milos: a volcanic island in the Cyclades chain. Cyclades-Milos I read about ... read more
