Egg #2 says: Thought I'd better write a bit about us Eggs to set our travel scene.... For about the last year, we've been getting our act together & making plans to leave the rat race, and seek fun and sunshine in countries that we've not yet visited. Two months ago, we both handed our notice in at work, rented out our house 30 miles south of Edinburgh (a seaside commuter town called Dunbar) and moved into a teeny flat in a central area of Edinburgh called Leith. We now have just over 8 weeks to go until we fly out to Bangkok to begin our adventures. Its amazing how much preparation is involved in organising your life to have a break for a year. When you first decide to take the plunge, you tend to ... read more

The past few entries have been ones that I transcribed from my notebook. This is the first live entry I've made thus far whilst in Ireland. My outlet adapters were in my checked bags, so I couldn't boot up my computer until they came into Limerick. So when they did, I was excited to get started on this blog. Unfortunately, as soon as I plugged the adapter in the wall, my laptop charger - which had already been on the fritz - blew out. It wasn't until today that I was able to replace it. But all is well. The mac is intact. Yesterday was a strange day. It was our first day of class abroad and it was the 4th of July. We made the most of it though. In the evening we were hosted ... read more

We’re really getting into the subject matter for each of our classes. It’s business as usual, as far as law school is concerned, with Professor Leeds (KU) and Professor Lenich (NU). Professor Quill of the University of Limerick, on the other hand, makes me feel like I’ve been transported back to undergrad. I’ve been told that law school in Ireland is taught at the undergraduate level… which may explain why we’re lectured for 70 minutes with almost no interaction. He’s an incredibly nice and intelligent guy… just a different approach I guess. Our group is also in the habit of eating together everday after class. Today we ate at the Stables Club on campus. I had a breaded chicken sandwich, salt & vinegar chips, and a 500 ml Diet Coke. Nothing special. Afterward, a number of ... read more

My luggage arrived! It’s dirty and it made an apparent stop in Philadelphia... but better late than never. I had three classes this morning: (1) Comparative Religion and Law, (2) Comparative Proof of Tort Damages, and (3) Comparative Tort Liability. My schedule is quite simple for the next month - class every day from 8:30 AM to 12:20 PM. Tom, the last person in our group, arrived today to round out the program. Later on in the day, Professor Ray Friel of the University of Limerick School of Law invited all the students and professors in our program to his house for a genuine 4th of July celebration. It was a very nice gesture. Professor Friel and his family have some experience with the holiday (Professor Friel was a visiting faculty member at Boston College’s School ... read more

We went to our professor's house in Woking on the 4th to celebrate Independence Day, since she is also an American. She had sausages and cakes and some other British food to celebrate, which were really really good (especially the cakes), as well as beer and Pimm's (its like sangria, I think) to drink. Here garden is enormous, and she let us swim in her covered swimming pool. Thankfully it was covered because in the few hours we were there it had changed weather about 20 times, from sunny to rain to hail back to rain and then back again to sunny to start all over again. We still had a great time, and talking to some of their family friends, it gave us an interesting view of America, since thats all it seems they talk ... read more

Arighty, so I'm in Oxford University at St. John's College. I think I'm finally figuring this whole Oxford in 39 parts thing... slowly, haha. This has been the first time I've gotten to a computer in a long time, it's a huge hassle to get on the internet with laptops (speaking of which, baccary, can you resend me your password with any capitalizations and do you have a security program like Norton or something?) Ok, anyways, sorry about that. Got to London on Thursday morning, met up with Seth at Buckingham Palace. Let's just say showing up at the Changing of the Guard on a Thursday afternoon looking for someone you don't know can be very interesting, haha. Walked around for a while, got a bite to eat and upon deciding he is not an axe ... read more

eh, they've pretty much gotten over it by now. Updates here: The phrase of the day today was "he sent another hare running" spoken by my Dickens teacher. He had a hard time translating it, but I think it means setting another thing to chase, another character, topic, something to try and follow. So yeah, that was a great one. My Shakespeare teacher started singing today and talking about penises and sex in The Tempest. He kicks Allen's class discussions on this play's ass. That is so bizarre that you woke up at 4:30 this morning. I got an email at around 10:00 from the school asking that I write back to say that I was ok, which I did. I sent Mary an email, but she doesn't check it but once every few days. I ... read more
