Helo again-- apologies that these are both being written on the same day--having way too much fun! Tuesday began the big welsh roadtrip to North Wales. Daf had it all figured out and we packed into his blue vauxhall and headed north. Starting early (8a.m.), I know Dad, it's hard to believe I rose that early, we drove to Machynlleth where we paused for beautiful photos of the estuary out to sea. Next we headed to Dolgellau and then over to Harlech to see the 12th century Norman castle that casts its shadow high on a mount above the town. Dad, there is the Royal St. David's golf course, named and created for you here. We walked around Harlech but didn't go into the castle. We then headed to the coast and when to Porthmadog and ... read more

Helo from Wales! We arrived here on Monday afternoon after a fantastic train ride via Birmingham and then to Aberystwyth where my friend Daf lives. Daf and I met in Grenada last summer on our mission trip. Throughout the countryside we saw many sheep (defaid), some even running up hill... silly sheep! As soon as you cross over into Wales the geography changes quite significantly into rolling hills and small mounts. The sky was so blue and the weather was phenomenal. At one stop an elderly gentlemen dressed complete with a brown trenchcoat and Sherlock Holmes hat boarded our car; I broke out into silent laughter as this appeared to have been out of a movie. The strangest thing was, no sooner than a couple of minutes later he was typing away on his palm pilot. ... read more

In our series of day trips out of cardiff we took a trip to Caerphilly castle. Wales has one of the highest concentrations of castles of anywhere in the world and they make a good day trip out of the city. So 4 of us from work decided to make the trip to see Caerphilly castle. The castle itself is a massive place and when it was built it is supposed to have been the best fortified castle in the world. The castle has been doing its own thing for centuries and fell into such bad disrepair that it was nearly destroyed, however it has been gradually restored and is now a popular place for tourists to visit. The castle itself however is not very comfortable and was only used as a fort not as a ... read more

Well everyone I have made it back safely to the land of sheep and eternal rain; that's right I'm back in dear old Cymru (Wales). I arrived home at 7:20 yesterday morning...which is pretty much the time I began pining to go back to South Africa and I am already couting the days til I'm next there. Now where did I leave you? I believe that I was about to go to Cape Town? I know that was a while ago. It seems my vows to get better at writing more regularly never came to fruition but believe me, the intention was certainly there at least? Anyway, Cape Town was all it was cracked up to be and then some. I think the thing that struck me the most was that I was in the middle ... read more

Hello there all Well we have arrived in sunny Wales after a great time in Ireland. Interesting adventure - great food - bacon and cabbage, Irish Stew and too many big Irish full breakfasts! It was quite an experience, Guinness and Smithwicks for the males with cider rather refreshing as well. Rolling fields bordered by hedgerows with sheep and cows. We met family in Tullemore and had a great night in their local pub with a lot of chatty Irish folk. The Irish were friendly-got invited to spend the night with one couple! The B&Bs were all run by very capable ladies - all good cooks! But the beds were rather hard-one just like an ironing board! Oh for a pillow top! Still they were all clean and tidy. Loved the ones with the tea and ... read more

SNOWDONIA NATIONAL PARK - NORTH WALES Back from Brazil, staying over at friends' places: Celso and Alex. Ana was in London for the last bit of her holiday and was brave enough to be the very first pillion passanger in my new VFR; I forgot to take the padlock off and we both fell with the bike. Ana had to help me lift the bike so that my left foot could be freed from under the weight. Had I broke a bone? I thought so but changed my mind quickily when I got to the Whittington in Archway around 11pm and found the waiting room crowded - luckily the foot got better quickily... Three days after that I was off to SNOWDONIA with Helen and Ed: a weekend of trekking, scrambling and climbing which could well ... read more

This weekend we decided to venture west and visit the beautiful Pembrokshire Coastal Path. Basically they have established a 186 mile walking trail in the South West corner of Wales which hugs the coast line all the way. Being the 9-5 slaves we now are, we ventured off on Friday night, Jason catching the train from Newport to Bridgend while Kirstyn frantically purchased an entire camping get-up for the weekend! We made it across to Freshwater East a little after 8 and suprisingly managed to erect our unseen tent in the dark without too much hassle. It was great to be back out camping again enjoying some basic camp food on our new, cheap imitation trangia, as well as a drop of beer and vino! The next morning after a hearty brekkie we walked down to ... read more

This time next week me, mam and Kate will be in Zaragoza! It's getting nearer and nearer and I'm bracing myself for when it hits me in the face! lol I'm starting to get my things together now and I can hopefully take 2 cases, a backpack and my laptop bag- that should be enough space for everthing I need. And I had breakthrough today. A French girl called Marine, who I met on Facebook via a Zaragoza erasmus group, has found a place to live and has offered me one of the remaining free rooms! yey! soooo excited! all i know about the flat so far is that it's on Calle Felix Latassa, and not far from the Uni. It'll be 325Euros a month and thats including charges and internet! so don't fret- I will ... read more

I have been up to a fair bit over the past couple of weeks, and have travelled a fair way during that time. Last update, we were heading to the Peak District to do some hiking for two nights but not exactly what we expected. We thought when hearing the 'Peak' word that there could be at least a couple of mountains around the place but, nothing at all really. The area was still nice though and very green with rolling hills, so that made the walking nice and easy. Once again we were camping each night in a paddock, which we had know idea if someone was going to come after us with a shotgun or not, but the insects were bad enough as soon as the sun started to set. I have know idea ... read more

"I'm sorry ma'am but you can't get to Cardiff today. The roads are all flooded out". Shanna stared wide-eyed at the man behind the counter who had just punched up this information on his computer 'thingy'. She couldn't believe what she had just heard. Walking back to Vibert, she related the bad news. Several parts of the UK were experiencing the worst flooding ever and apparently Cardiff was one of those places. British Airways had deposited us on time from Barbados and it took just about 30 minutes to clear immigration and customs and guide ourselves thru the city-sized Gatwick International Airport. And right away, at 6:15 am on a Monday morning, we were faced with a dilemma. Tyrone, Vibert's eldest brother, lived in Cardiff, with his wife, Dawn, and their daughter, Ebony. Cardiff is the ... read more
