Father suggested day out to see autumn colours and recommended Bodnant Gardens just south of Conwy. They are absolutely beautiful. Roses were still blooming and turning foliage of trees stunning. Intend to go back in Spring as Laburnum walk is worth seeing. After lunch in the 16th century Groes Inn visited Conwy castle and it has to be one of the better examples of a castle in its original state. Drizzle by then did not spoil visit.... read more

Wales, Conwy & Caernferon, ie. excuse to add pictures The glorious Conwy Castle and exploration of the town. Doves & pigeons (are doves just white pigeons?). In this castle King Louis had himself a private privy built, eh. We looked down it. You really can’t understand Welsh at all. It is a lovely sounding language though. That castle I saw couple of times before I visited there. It looks quite interesting and nice impression enhances by location of Gwrych castle at the top of hill. Castle's walls are white and in general it is stylized to medieval fortress despite of it was build at the beginning of 19th century. The family of founders stopped to reign of castle when the last family member died childless. Afterwards fate of Gwrych castle was various and some owners possessed it. Nowadays I don't know exactly who is an owner but I heard about company that bought the castle and would try to turn into hotel. First impresion is - this is nice medieval castle but after I thought for a few seconds... Welsh have respect for cultural and historical relics and they surely would take ... read more

...Full Of Beautiful People That Speak Funny!! Out of the capital and back on the train, I had a full day of travel ahead of me. From Cardiff across to Heresbury, a rail replacement bus to Shewersbury, and back onto a train to get into North Wales. Not a good start when the first train runs twenty minutes late before even boarding. Luckily, the bus waited for us at Heresbury for the replacement service but dropped us of two minutes after the next train connection left. It was an hour wait for the next one which then made me reach my final destination at around 8pm. One hell of a day!! On a brighter note though, I got to see a lot of countryside including some of the places my father used to talk about going ... read more

So now I’m fast-forwarding to Saturday and Sunday when we had a fieldtrip, then I will go back to spring break next time. I’ll do this so I don’t fall as far behind- I’m just prolonging the inevitable. This past weekend we went to another one of King Edward’s Norman castles, Conwy. Conwy Castle was the ‘headquarters’ of all of Edward’s castles in North Wales, and he was there often, apparently. We had a tour guide through this castle, who definitely enhanced our experience. He made really bad jokes and laughed at them, then we all laughed at him laughing at himself, but he thought we were laughing at his jokes. It was a good time! But he did teach us a lot, and I made a lot of connections, linking Conwy Castle to the other ... read more

In Llandudno anyone shouldn't get into trouble with park car for free. We didn't pay because we parked just into the town centre. Llandudno is located amongst hills and we noticed Wales is very clean, no litter over the street like in England. Town looks similar to any town from southern Europe - palms were planted at the fronts of many hotels, especially at the promenade. Generally Llandudno is colorful and bilingual - pretty much of its population speak in Welsh. We had a lunch in one the restaurants and after we directed to Llandudno's pier. Afterwards we directed out from town and straight up to Great Orme/Y Gogarth peninsula. Beware of seagulls overthere. :D They are really big and very greedy for your food. :L ... read more

To Great Orme (Y Gogarth in Welsh) we got from Llandudno's pier. Road curls along the cliff and when we drive or walk there we might admire cliff's rocks and open sea. Most of the cliffs are rarely overgrowning any vegetation but we saw some goats and obviously sheep. :D At the opposite end of the peninsula we found a restaurant, just the small one, nothing exciting, typical one in UK. From that restaurant we can see nice landscape of Great Orme peninsula and feel fresh sea wind. Afterwards we had a lunch we decided to climb th the top of the cliff to see more and take any afford to being sweaty. From the top of the hill we might admire very nice view - if we see to west we can see Welsh coast ... read more

The Roma Christmas was exciting again this year. The family congregations were spread over a few days and we indulged in more turkey, pudding and yummy goodies than required. We had Christmas day in London and then another gathering in Birmingham on Boxing Day. We have never indulged in so much kareoke in my life than in that one night alone! But it was fun for the kids and the 'grown ups' all singing along together, letting our hair down and dancing the night away. The occasional song brought a tear to the eye (not sure if it was the choice of song or the singing), and of course it was just nice to be able to be away from London and spend time with the family. But after Birmingham our holiday started. We'd hired a ... read more

As you can see from the title I've got my ship, Cunard Queen Mary 2, and I'm off to Fort Lauderdale, FL, to join it at 9am on 13th January. The first cruise is a 90 day world cruise taking in the sights of Rio, LA, Honalulu and Tokyo to name but a few! ...and we were off for another browse, this time to Wales - North Wales, UK! For some reason, we all have always been a fan of Last Minute adventures and planning for this trip was no different any of the previous ones. Alike, previous trips I was struggling to get good deals for accomodation and transportation.. Without going off the tangent, we decided to explore North Wales during Christmas vacation this year (2008), 'Decision was made 5 days prior to travel' without realizing this year's Christmas break is of 4 days at a stretch and it could be difficult to make arrangements (as, obviously, it was). However, as some wise person has said "Where there's a Will, there's a Way" and we found our way out. My previous experience with travelling and bookings lit a spark ... read more
