With a job lined up and the stress of searching for one gone, I thought I would use my last few remaining days of leisure to check out some of the sights in London. The first attraction I went to was the British Museum. It’s one of the world's largest museums of human history and culture, with artifacts from all over the world. In the first hour I was reading about everything, in the second hour I was reading less and looking more, by the fifth hour I was running through rooms stopping only at things that took my interest, there is just so much stuff to see. If you were making a new star wars movie and needed inspiration for new characters you would come here*, so many weird and wacky masks, weapons, and clothes ... read more

OK, so I got this site cause I though I'd be smart. There is also the benefit of posting all the potentially embarrassing photos of my family on the blog and e mailing them the link at a later time: when I'm out of the country. So 5 days to go and we are packed! Now that's what I call preparation.........and a lack of any social life. So, do I write this as I am talking to a bunch of people who are interested???? is that what I am meant to do? I could look at other blogs to see whats the form but that would be a bit sad as I don't know anyone with one. Am I a blogee or a blogger? is it double g? This is going to take up a large ... read more

Today i had an injection of some dead hepatitis B virus. Once I had successfully had this injection, I passed out. The nurse had to press the emergency button in the clinic and lots of other nurses came rushing in. The appointment lasted 45 minutes instead of the designated 20. Upside, I got free the squash and biscuits that they normally give to 5yr olds for being good. I'd say this was a bad start, but so far I have managed to not turn up to three appointments because I keep booking them when I'm actually teaching a lesson. Today was therefore still bad, but it wasn't quite the start. Next injections, tuesday. No passing out then though.... read more

So after the whirlwind trip around Europe I was back to England. I spent a day or so back in Chelmsford tidying up and organising lots of boring stuff that needs to be done when you are moving out and leaving for good. After that I left for London, and met up with Nicola from my Inca Trail trek last year. We actually caught up on the anniversary of the day we left for our trek last year, which was rather spooky and cool. So that was pretty good seeing her and her friend as we chatted away, before I took the train back into London. It was really late when I got to Paddington station (think I was on the last tube for the night) and caught up with the inebriated pair, Brett and Heather. ... read more

It's one month to go in the countdown towards our skive. Actually, it's 16 working days but who's counting? Flight leaves on 28th December at 9.30pm so that means we should be sipping Champagne (or at the very least a glass of beer for Mr Deane and a glass of Rose for Mrs Deane) around about 6.30pm on that evening. Leaving party has been and gone. Thoroughly enjoyed by everyone, especially the poodle rock music and the very generous buffet. See you on the other side. DC... read more

It is not every year that one can truly claim a birthday longer than a single day, so I decided to take full advantage of the world's time zones, starting the celebrations midnight New Zealand time and finishing midnight GMT. The 37 Hour Birthday Part One: the New Zealand edition When the clock struck eleven am London time on the 27th November, I sat up with excitement and kicked off my birthday with a ceremonial opening of two boxes of chocolates. Shouting out to my colleagues to "come and have chocolate, because it's midnight in New Zealand!" brought willing participants to my impromptu party. I should point out that while some of them openly doubted my sanity, no-one refused the chocolate, and most of them thought it was a great idea (probably because they benefited in ... read more

When in England there are a few things that one must do. A few I have done, a few I haven't. Stratford-Upon-Avon would be one of them. Who hasn't heard of Shakespeare? Well I hopped on the train and headed to the town. It is a neat little place. Situated on the River Avon I think it would be a great place to spend time in during the summer. There are these huge trees and benches all along the river and in the summer there are outdoor plays performed. Cool. It was winter when I was there so not quite as cool. The first day I just wandered. Ended up at the Swan Theatre that night for a performance of Pericles. It was great. I am not one for reading Shakespeare alot but to see the ... read more
