That’s it...our time in Guildford is over (except for Daniel who has to go back to collect his bike). It’s kind-of sad to leave as we have really enjoyed our time over here, and could happily stay (for a while longer), but at the same time we are looking forward to coming home to see our family and friends, and coming back to the familiarity of NZ with our house, and our things around us. The week was rather uneventful, I again did no work, and Daniel did lots of work. I made some lollie cake for our office shouts, along with getting other NZ food - crunchie bars, pineapple lumps, jaffas and the like. Daniel’s workmates were sad to see him go and offered him a full-time job there, several times!! They even took him, ... read more

For some reason it seems that all we really have to tell you about this weekend is alcohol! I hope you don’t all get the wrong impression…really we’re not that big drinkers…I like my wine, and Daniel likes his wine, beer, whiskey, rum, bourbon…!!! On Friday night Daniel and I headed out to the Hog Back Brewery, with about 20 people from my work, for a brewery tour. The tour was fun and we learnt lots about the process of making TEA. Yes TEA. I’m sure you’re wondering what TEA has to do with making beer, but TEA is a brand of the beer that they make at this brewery, coincidentally named the same at the Brits favourite drink (we now know from experience!). TEA, in this brewery, stands for Traditional English Ale. The brewery makes ... read more

Hi all, Next weekend’s update... On Saturday morning Auntie Margareth and Uncle Albert arrived from Holland to spend a few days with us. We picked them up from Gatwick and spent the weekend doing touristy things. On Saturday we spent the day looking around Guildford. We gave them our own walking tour, since the free ones they held on Sunday aren’t held over the Autumn/Winter period. After seeing the sights - the castle, the main road, the two Alice in Wonderland sculptures, the river etc, we went down to my work and I showed them around. On Sunday we went into London. We had a good look around the free part of the Westminster Abbey - it’s so huge! And even heard the organ playing through the walls as there was a service going on. We ... read more

Hi all, Today's update will have to be in two parts as Daniel and I have been living seperate lives for the past week :( But now we're back together again - yah! MONIQUE'S WEEK My week was rather dull and boring I'm afraid. After coming back from Holland I spent 3 days and 2 nights in London on a course. The first day was an induction course (even though I've been here for over a month) and the other 2 days were an audit course. At the audit course I managed to somehow befriend an Asian lady who is over from China for a secondment for 1 year. She didn't really speak English, so that made dinner, breakfast, lunch, dinner, breakfast, lunch, and the train-ride conversations interesting! I had to draw the line at her ... read more

Another weekend has flown by, only 10 more weekends before we’re back again! This was our first full weekend with company (other then each other of course)! And Mum and Dad seem to have brought the nice weather with them. Daniel wanted to tie them up and keep them here in order for the nice weather to carry on, but unfortunately, the weather knew they were planning on leaving so started raining on their last day here. Only 15 minutes of rain then, but now, since they’ve left, we have another day of rain again! :( Anyway, enough about weather, here’s what we’ve been up to: Friday: Today I went to work, knowing that everyone else in the audit team were going on a high-ropes course in the afternoon, but since I hadn’t been invited, I ... read more

Hi all. Another week has flown past so it must be time to update the blog again. Last weekend was Heritage weekend in Guildford so most of the historical sites were free to look at over the weekend. Daniel went and visited the air raid shelters on Friday afternoon (as all the Saturday tours were booked). They were built back in the World War 2 and could hold 1,000 people. They were never actually used for the shelters but were completely equipped to be used. On the Saturday we went and did lots of touristy things. We visited the Holy Trinity Church and spent quite a while in there. The bell tower was open so we had a turn ringing the church bell. Daniel got flicked in the eye with the end of the rope, not ... read more

We survived our first week here in England. And our 9 out of 10 days of rain. And our jackets have never been used so much before! My work is going well so far. I still haven’t done any actual auditing work, but that’s OK, at least I’ve got other work to do. Daniel is still looking for a job. The area is not really industrial, so he’s having to look outside our town. Hopefully he’ll find something soon as it’s gets a bit frustrating for him. Although I’m quite enjoying having a house husband and getting my dinner cooked for me every night! Daniel bought a bike. It’s orange and it’s steel and that’s about all I know. Last weekend we didn’t do too much on the Saturday, as it was raining, again. But on ... read more

Hi all, A quick update to let you know we arrived safetly here in Guildford on Sunday morning. We have a nice wee flat in Guildford. It's pretty small - but that's to be expected over here. The kitchen is hidden behind fold-away doors in the lounge - so it's pretty tiny. The place has a spare bedroom with a double/queen bed - so it anyone wants to come and visit you are most welcome to come! Except we can't have more then 2 visitors otherwise you'll have to sit on the ground as we only have one couch and one seat! We meet two of our neighbours yesterday (we are the second level of about 3 levels of flats - 2 flats on each level. One neighbour came to complain about the noise of the ... read more
