Geo: 54.2464, -0.782141Well that's it for Yorkshire. We plan to return one day to Stony Moor and do and see much more and walk the moors as they should be explored. Just stunning. We could quite happily have walked for hours taking in the scenery and the nature. Beautiful, just Love it.Speaking of nature, I'm Now Listening to a Great Tit (such a rude and ungrateful arsehole) who has really put the mockers on this short stay at Stony Moor and look forward to him leaving in the opposite direction to us before we prepare for our trip back to Norfolk and then onward Edinburgh. (Yes we realise Edinburgh is North and we should have planned better)Bye bye Michael McNasty! It amazes me at times that whilst travelling extensively you can meet so many wonderful and exciting ... read more

Geo: 54.2464, -0.782141August 1stIt's 11am as we leave Norwich for Pickering in Yorkshire. A quick food and refreshments stop at Sainsburys & then we are on our merry way.The traffic was not too bad on this 6 hour drive which included 2 short breaks and an incident with a large pothole somewhere in Derbyshire. Thankfully no damage done.Arrive in Pickering after a slight traffic snarl due to the fact that there was a steam and tractor fair this weekend. How exciting that must have been. Now to find Stony Moor cottage. Not too difficult really and only missed the turn off by a tiny bit. At least it was still light. After a short and narrow gravel off road driveway we picked up the keys to this quaint building set in an Idyllic setting with pine ... read more

She and Ian were not impressed as we drove through the Northumberland National Park, with windy roads and mist giving little or no views we finally made it onto the main A roads. Woolly says – I couldn’t see a thing, not even a sheep to count! One hundred and fifteen miles on we took a sharp left and Georgie begrudgingly chugged up the steep road to Whitby Abbey, dominating the town and the cliffs around it was pretty impressive and it was easy to see why Bram Stoker was inspired to write Dracula when looking at the High Gothic walls of the abbey. Wrapping up warm we went to find the entrance, walking round the outside wall of the ... read more

Okay, where do we start about our stay at Keldy Forest Cabins near Pickering? Firstly, is remote, quiet, peaceful and absolutely FAB if you like this description. The spacious, and we mean SPACIOUS forest cabins, are clean, warm and comfortable and are set in acres of woodland which is part of the Forestry commission here in the UK. The site is located near the village of Cropton where the nearest pub is located. However, perhaps a little too far to walk if you fancy a night out, instead get a designated driver! We booked our stay through Forest Holidays and got a great deal of £128 for their cheapest cabin for 4 nights. The 'Evergreen' cabin does not include a hot-tub, expect to pay more of you want this luxury. Our cabin slept six, but just ... read more
