Day 8, 8th June. Hassocks - Hastings - Lydd It was the last time we said goodbye to loads of folks this morning, Toby’s parents. We set out at ten through the lovely South Downs and met a bike path north of Eastbourne. The riding was pleasant, good weather and wind behind us. At Pevensey Bay we dipped our toes in a freezing English Channel and catapulted* a yellow oil-drum on the beach like a group of lunatics! Toby picked a bag of sea-kale, which would never be eaten, then we carried on towards Lydd. In the town, after 60 miles cycling, Toby got a great result; we could camp in the beer garden of The Royal Oak free of charge. Tick Tock, tick tock Hey everybody, So we're nearly there - it seems to have taken forever but we are finally leaving (in two days!). To avoid depressing everybody with e-mails from paradise! I'm going to put updates on this blog for anyone who wants to have a look at what we're up to! The plan is to fly into Bangkok and travel around asia until the end of August, then we fly to Australia and have visa's to work there. This was my first journey into the English countryside. Unfortunately, I had to leave Ailsa behind as she'd found work and I had a Monday to myself while I waited for my first contract to start. So I took the train with Shivir, a fellow contractor who was travelling to Maidstone to an Interview with a Local Council. I was eager to get out of London, if only for a few hours and I found that Leeds Castle was near(ish) to Maidstone so we agreed to go visit after his interview. We made a rather odd pair, he in his business suit and me in my Aussie tourist garb, but we had a great time and I was so loathe to leave that we almost missed the last shuttle bus to the station. ... read more

Get into Dover, amazing views of the ocean and the famous white cliffs. Walked to the downtown core of Dover to the tourist info. Got maps and directions to the YHA hostel and also the dover castle. Met some americans from somewhere I can't remember, the one guy looked like 30ish but was only 21 haha. Since the hostel was closed that afternooon we took our full backpacks and hiked up to the castle. Step after step, took over an hour. Good exercise for sure. Toured around the castle, very cool, ended it with a tour of the secret underground wartime tunnels. Blazing hot we headed back down to the hostel. Wel, this is it-all packed & ready 4 home... We have had such a really good time (as we keep sayin!!!) its almost hard 2 go-i cant wait to be home to my bed, to my friends & family!!! :D Wish i was on the plane now, im not lookin forward 2 spendin hrs @ the airport but i luv being on the plane... :) Id like to thank every1 who read this blog & esp to the ppl who wrote us lovely messages-u really made "home" not so far away!!!
