After spending 3 days over the Christmas Holidays we finally managed to move the contents of our little flat into our parents' lofts. If you read in the News Shopper about ceilings collapsing in 2 houses in Bromley you know who they are. We start our journey on Sat 15th Jan, with mixed feelings after recent events in SE Asia. Our next entry will be from a very different Thailand to the one most of you remember.... read more

Well, this is my first entry in my blog since I left the USA. I landed in Heathrow on June 8 and took a train to Cantebury, which is in Kent, to stay with my roommate Caroline and her parents. It was a lovely way to begin my journey. I slept in the next day ... and then we drove to Brighton for the day to meet some of Caroline's friends, Mike and Blanche. (I think my friend Andra would have loved to have visited Brighton ... shout out to Pride And Prejudice. Unfortunately, I did not see a Mr. Darcy anywhere.) We picnicked on the beach and walked along the pier. Caroline's parents then took me to see the Royal Pavillion which Queen Victoria built as a vacation house near the beach. It's quite the vacation ... read more

Well, yesterday I caused some surprise - not least to myself - by clicking on the 'purchase this ticket' button and confirming my passage to Auckland, leaving Blighty on Thursday 27th in the afternoon.  I would like to reassure readers that this brief flash of itinerisation extended no further than booking a flight, and that I still have nowhere to stay and no idea what I will do once I'm there.  Hey-ho, that is the whole point after all :o) Now it just remains to buy out the remaining stock at Black's camping store and shoehorn it frantically into my jacket, track down a keyring-sized plastic hobbit with fully articulated arms and removable 'Fang' (or 'Lembas' if there's been a run on Frodos and I have to settle for a Samwise, please no - I haven't ... read more

Im here in England at my buddies house in the Isle of Sheppey. Its on the south eastern side of England about 1 hour from Heathrow by car. My friend Danny, who is allowing me to stay at his place and has been incredibley kind about how long i can stay and has shown me pretty much everything there is to see in Kent. The first day we got here, i of course walked to what i know as the passenger side of the car not thinking about how everything had been switched, man that and driving on the other side of the road was a trip. After entering Kent, we had some Cod and chips(fries) which is the most well known english food i believe. We then went to a few of the local ... read more

At 16 you haven't really done anything in life but I knew I wanted to do a skydive from a very young age, the youngest legal age to skydive in the UK is 16 so I thought what better way to celebrate then to skydive, I looked into how to book a skydive and found that I could raise money for the National Deaf Children's Society at the same time. Sponsorship raised, date of the jump booked and I got up early to go to Headcorn, I chose the wrong time of year to do it, it was October when I eventually got around to booking it and when I got there I waited for a few hours only to be told the weather was too bad and we wouldn't be able to jump today. I ... read more

My friends took me for a walk today. Well actually, I chose it from four sea-view walks they had picked from a book of walks. We went to the url=https://www.discoveringbritain.org/activities/south-east-england/viewpoints/folkestone-warren-viewpoint.htmlFolkestone Warren. It wasn’t until after the walk that we got a clear explanation of the formation of a warren. Water gets into cracks in the chalk relatively close to the front of a cliff, and eventually the front breaks off, creating a new cliff face with a lot of rubble at the bottom. Trees and bushes grow in the rubble creating the warren. It’s a natural process that never stops. Steps have been taken to slow the erosion by the sea at the foot of the cliffs – at least to curtail damage to the rail line that runs at the bottom of the cliffs through ... read more
