So, last minute preperations have been waylaid by a bout of apathy. In much the same way my reply to most things these past few weeks have been "its not my problem", when discussing deadlines and such. But these week its "what the worst that could happen?" which seems to succesfully save me from doing anymore preperation. Its not like I need to know where Vancouver is. I paid a pilot for that. ... read more

We've been trying to get out of London when we can, so when the weather report said we were going to have a sunny weekend we thought we would take a day-trip out to Dover and walk along the White Cliffs. Most people don't actually take a trip to Dover they pass through the ferry terminal and get a glimpse of the white cliffs in passing. But we thought they would be worth a look as a beautiful sight and an important symbol for war-time Britain. The cliffs were impressive and we enjoyed the walk, however it would have been a much better view from out at sea. It was quite a long day in the sun and embarrassingly enough we got sunburnt, yes you heard correctly, Australians got burnt in the UK which was quite ... read more

I backdated this entry. No-one will ever know...mwahaha...oops. In May (which is now, it's not September now at all...and I am not a lazy bugger with writer's block) I took a little trip. I started out in London, made my way through Kent to Dover, where I got on this huge boat. More on that later. Our story (ok, my story. I'm just trying to be nice my making you feel included) starts in... Reykjavík! It's a chilly spring evening and our heroine is busy prepearing for her overseas voyage. She finishes her packing, stuffing the last of her clothes into a small, practical rucksack. She checks her list one last time and hoists the pack onto her shoulders. "Wish me luck, mother dear. I'm off to see the world! Nothing can hold me back, I ... read more

Hi again everyone! We are now in the second half of our two week Easter break. We spent all of our first week waiting around, hoping that we could come home for our buck & doe. Again, thank you to everyone who helped make it a big success! Since the buck & doe we have tried to make the best of our time off while we've been stuck here in England! Last week we ventured into London for one day, simply because we couldn't stand being in our house any more! We originally intended on seeing the Changing of the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace but later found out that it is only running every other day in April, and we were there on the wrong day! So, we decided to go see the Tower of London. ... read more

So the countdown is getting lower and lower we are now just 25 days away from D-Day. We still have a few things to finish up, such as getting the photos for our visas in Asia, finishing up the Hep-B treatment and testing out and purchasing our maleria course, but all in all we are pretty much set. Katie has finished buying her 50 pairs of shorts to take with her and much to my surprise proved me dead wrong by showing me that they all fit in her MAHUSIVE backpack! We have the leaving party arranged for the 24th and we are trying desperately to ensure everyone knows about it so its just not the two of us saying goodbye to each other! We are itching to leave and praying these last 25 days go ... read more

I've included photos in this entry from the day that Chris came to London and I took him out. I'm so sorry I have been so slow at this, but I have so many pictures for you, so keep an eye out because I will be posting them soon. I have Pictures from La Rochelle, Canterbury, Dover, and just from around London (ha, just) But I thought I would devote this entry to some British slang I have learned. I'm sure some of these may be 'personal expressions' as some people are weird and say their own thing and I can hardly apply it to the entire British population. There are some words that are distinctly London slang, others that are Irish (that I get from my theatre teacher), others that are from areas I have ... read more

After arriving through the Chunnel to England we went for a quick visit to (for some a dip in) the sea and saw Dover. The seagulls called to us and the sea water waved to us as Dover castle and the white cliffs looked down on us... read more

This weekend (30th Sept) has been exciting as I finished work and we have said our goodbyes to family and friends. Karl (the southern softie) Mortimer struggled with a Chessie northern night out on the Friday and was getting aquainted with the plumbing by midnight. Must have been the free Cobra lagers amongst the cocktails that did it lad! Martin came in second in the hangover stakes next morning with me trailing in last with a bright and patronising "I feel fine, and I drank more than you!". There is a God. Thanks to our sons and mother in law for belly busting meals on Sat & Sun. At last, all the "to go " piles of stuff that have been building in every room of the house for the past months suprisingly got loaded without too ... read more

18th August Got up early for a run with Mason down to the beach. The wind was blowing and the rain was falling and it was 7 o’clock in the morning. Mason had to do his hair before we left. Ran through the little lanes, through the forest and past a castle down to the beach - we weren’t going swimming that was for sure. We had thought we would go to another beach this morning but because of the rain we decided to go straight to the big mining pit - not up to the Becon’s either. The closer we got to the turn off the heavier the rain was so another change of plan - straight to Bath. Crossed the Severn bridge which is incredible. It took 4 minutes to cross it. Bath according ... read more
