Phew! Just finished packing and we think we have everything - bit of a mad evening, although I knew it would be - I guess this is what happens when you leave everything to the last minute. And plus it didnt help drinking to oblivion the night before, (as fab as it was Molly)! I suffered with an amazing hangover this morning - so bad, only a fried breakfast seemed to tame the dodgy tummy! Oh well - its 10.31, feeling slightly tired now and almost ready for bed...ummmm - maybe I've forgotten something, got this really strange feeling that I have...as long as I have my contact lenses I should be fine, and well I'll need to make sure I have my creams - cant leave without them either - oh and my glasses (sunglasses, ... read more

It feels real now...We've just got back from a weekend in Birmingham, and saying goodbye to everyone has brought the trip even closer. We even had a mini Christmas lunch this afternoon, which was lovely. One week left of the daily trek to work and back - I think we're both in agreement - its going to be a tough week... I think Friday's going to be a late one, got to make sure we pack everything that we need, and that's including the his & her long john's - dont laugh! China being our first stop at -3 it's essential that we pack everything from scarves, gloves and thermals! We've read all the essential guides, and the more we read, the more excited we get...! Anyway, I'm sure we'll have more to say when we ... read more

London London London. Here we go!!!! It all started about 4 years ago when I was back in RSA and talking to my old pals Ryan "lobs" and Mike "binder". I can't remember exactly how we came up with the plan (one too many Castles i am sure) but before I knew it we had decided to move to the UK sometime in the future. So here Ryan and I are, in London town with our thumbs up each others asses and not knowing exactly which was is left and right just hanging around for Mike to come. Oh Mike, where are you my long lost friend? No no, everything is going more a less to plan other than the fact that I don't have a job, a bank account or a proper place to stay!! ... read more

Well i started this blog the other week in a really triumphant mood, ready to embrace technology and show what i could do, so that when Zoe saw it she'd be v pleased....FAILED. I've now decided that it'll have to be postcards with pictures as i can't get the map to work and spent 2 hours typing in the wrong password before i could write this. I won't give up yet, but i am feeling slightly deflated and less in love with geo-mapping sites. L... read more

Things are really starting to build -up now. My last day at work was on friday. We went down to the pub for a couple of drinks where the rest of REC gave me a couple of presents. One of which was a bum-bag (just after we, or at least I, had slagged off bum bags). I purchased my travel journal in Hertford today, and also finalised my financial arrangements. I also noted an updated edition of South East Asia on a shoestring. I bought ny copy so long ago now; it feels like I've been planning this trip for ages. In four days time I'll be somewhere up in the sky looking forward to my first evening in San Francisco.... read more

When I planned my working-holiday to New Zealand I imagined that I would be spending a year backpacking around the country and therefore bought a return flight from the UK valid for just a year. My plans have altered, so now I want to take full advantage of my visa, to spend longer living and working in NZ, but have decided to use the return part of the ticket to visit my family and friends in the UK for a few weeks. Here are some photos from my short visit to my home-town of Hitchin and some from when I visited my brother and his girlfriend in London.... read more
