St Albans Europe » United Kingdom » England » Hertfordshire By LeeeeeeeMay 22nd 2007Lucinda Burfield Today we visited The Cathedral and Abbey Church of Saint Alban. Very very big and very very old. St Alban died on the Abbey site early in the third century, he was the first person in England to die for Christianity. The first building was the monastery which was finished in 793 and inside that was the shrine of St Alban. A Church was then build around it, but most of it was pulled down after 1066. They have heaps of pieces of the old church inside the Abbey, they were all labeled... read more

Yesterday I got my first taste of British royalty... in Windsor. The Castle was beautiful and really really really big. The flag was up which apparently means that Royalty is in. I'm very jealous... The castle is within crawling distance of about 100 beautiful pubs... the Queen doesn't know how lucky she is :) I had my photo taken with a British policeman outside the castle. I didn't think they really wore those hats. At first I thought it looked really funny, then I saw he had a really big machine gun and suddenly forgot about laughing at the hat... Tristan and Maria - I saw Sir Christopher Wren's House... The architect responsible for St Paul's Cathedral and have posted the photo's below :) I had lunch on the river with my family, which was ... read more

Here is the Prologue to our journey - and a chance to see if our pea-sized brains can make this blog thang work complete with photos and everything. A week today we'll have hit the skies in the luxurious hands of Qantas or, if they've jipped us then BA. Yes indeed. A week today we will have watched the one film we actually wanted to watch and will be half way through the episode of Friends that we've tried to watch 3 times before but kept falling asleep before getting to the end. We may have stollen our 8th bottle of red wine from the trolly dolly or maybe she's given us this one legitmately. So we've left our beautiful home in the hands of our friend Sam (this is actually true and not some far-fetched ... read more

Hello Everyone! I haven't posted a blog in a little while...so...what HAVE I been up to??? Well, for starters I have actually been doing some homework. I turned in a fiche technique and a revue de presse yesterday, and I have been reading all about Giuseppe Verdi in preparation for an oral expose in my class "Discovery of the Opera" next Tuesday. Actually, preparing the expose is tomorrow's project. I have been enjoying "discovering" the opera during the semester and have even managed to get to TWO in the past few weeks! The National Opera of Paris We are lucky to have two opera houses here in Paris, the classic Opera Garnier (where The Phantom of the Opera was set) and the more modern Opera Bastille (opened in 1989). The Director of the National Opera of ... read more

Queridos amigos y familia.

After returning for a couple of days to Bangkok I made my journey back home to a very cold England. I am now sitting here with bags around me ready to load into my car for my next adventure - ski guide here I come. I feel nervous, yet excited - this was one of my dreams (as well as to own a coffee shop!). I wanted to do something I loved doing and was good at...and yes, I am good at skiing. Although those who know me well will know that I tell everyone who I think are never going to see me ski that I am shit hot, whilst those who are coming skiing with me I modestly say that I am ok. Well after I season I am hoping I will be shit ... read more
