Today has been spent with three missions in mind. At least two of them came to fruition. The third sadly did not. It is not the end of the world though. First job get Suzy off the drive which at times is no mean task. The sooner we make a bigger drive the better - in the interests of marital harmony of course. The second to take her for a well deserved fill up of LPG which would last us through this upcoming holiday. Sadly this went pear shaped as the place we had planned to buy it from had either gone bust or the guy had just given up the ghost and stopped trading. We think we can get some on the M1 on the way down to the Chunnel but if not then there ... read more

Having just endured a short stay in hospital, I thought I’d share my notes on things that occurred to me. Okay, I know this is TravelBlog and that the UK's National Health Service has nothing to do with journeys around foreign lands - but I did have to travel to the hospital and, as you’ll discover, it could almost have been China, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Poland or Romania in England’s green and pleasant land! So, for what it’s worth, here are few of my observations during this enforced time away from home: Buildings are there for a purpose, be it hotel or hospital. Hospitals aren’t hotels, but my recent experience says the service in hospitals is actually sometimes better. It’s the people who make the difference. The many grades of nurses have different, confusing uniforms. ... read more

So, one week to go. Sitting on the boat with our clothes, camping kit and lots of books about Italy around us, trying to figure out how on earth to fit it all into our bike luggage. Gary has figured out that we have 90L of space which is basically one small suitcase between us - FUN! Gary would like to use the other F word..... The ferry is booked for silly o'clock next Monday and our first night in Reims, France. We have tickets booked for the MotoGP in Mugello on 3rd and 4th July and a hotel with mates the night after. That is all we have booked, the rest is going to be a big adventure. Can't wait to leave the rain and hit the Italian countryside. The bike has had a bit ... read more

Leaving Oxford quickly (after a good sleep in) as what a boring Town it is, the day was typical English dreary, low fog and bloody freezing it was a day that we really had nothing planned so we headed on back down towards London as we had to drop the camper off early the following day. It is surprising that you drive a few miles over here and the landscape changes dramatically, from sleepy village lanes and stone walled fields to larger roads and scenes that would look right at home in the Waikato, farms everywhere and the funny thing is that you are in the middle of the countryside and come around a corner to a roundabout and there right in front of you is a new car dealership, cross the roundabout the countryside again ... read more

Hello all - well I'm back home in the UK safe and sound but no doubt you will be aware that mother nature had one last trick up her sleeve before I left New Zealand! I was packing my bag and my sister texted me telling me about the earthquake in Japan - she said I should hurry home. I told her not to worry, that Japan was quite a way from New Zealand. Then I turned on the New Zealand news and found out that it was the tsunami she was worried about not the earthquake. By the time I went to bed the news was saying that a tsunami alert had been issued for NZ, together with all the other pacific countries, and that the far north was likely to experience any effects at ... read more

11 December 2010 It is almost a year on from the end of my travels as I start writing this final entry. It has been on my mind for 10 months to write this blog; I even wrote in my last blog entry “I will write one last blog in the new year, to sum up the last 18 months of travelling, an afterword so to speak.” I didn’t intend it to write this blog so deep into the New Year and almost into the next one but inevitably events take over and you get into the routine of work, sleep, work, sleep.....a weekend or two thrown in for good measure and before you know it a year has passed you by in the blink of an eye. Did my 18 months of travelling pass so ... read more

Well, it's bedtime now, 11:15 pm here. I'm still a little messed up on the times for sleeping, waking up, etc. I have an annoying habit of waking up at 3AM here so I thought I'd stay up longer tonight in hopes to sleep 'normally'. to make sure we are fully acquainted with everyone talked about in this blog - here is the breakdown: Dave - dad Lynne - mom luke - 17 yr old son of dave's (who, by the way, does his own thing) Alex - 9 Rhiannon - 5 I am not feeling too homesick as of yet, of course I miss Richard like crazy, my phone chats with Katie/Chris and seeing everyone that lives local to me but as my mom told me, 'it feels like a whole other world'. With the ... read more

I know i said no more entries before i go away but will keep this short and i had to write it. Read on to find out why ~ You will get as angry as me!! Went to Coventry for the last time ever this weekend, Laura and i thought we would have a final Colly rot ... We did not as we are both so lame a pathetic that after drinking steadily thoughout Friday day and night followed by Saturday beers at 'COVSTOCK' we did not have the energy to make so sat a drank at the Pheonix mainly which had more bar staff than customers ~ The whole of Coventry was D.E.A.D ~ Not a student/lay-about/alcoholic in site/or tart in site. However, (this is the good bit) Sunday we did visit the student art ... read more
