I was going to do the walk in the city on 9th June. However, Central line had severe delays on both directions; I decided to do the walk around Piccadilly, St James and Mayfair. I was instructed to use the South Exit 3 to go to Piccadilly. A lot of shops had Jubilee window displays, very patriotic. I was particularly fond of one of the gentlemen’s clothes shops’ display – contained several puppies/dogs’ display with gent’s mannequins, with lines of ‘Happy and Glorious’ – this was very much British lifestyle! I went to Sotheran’s On Sackville Street – it had rare books and prints and posters. I don’t remember how much each of them was priced. I bought a nice card for my husband who will have birthday soon. I crossed over Piccadilly and popped in ... read more

I had a spare Saturday. My wife and daughter were away for the day, so I thought it would be a nice excuse to go into London for the day for some photography. Despite living just outside of the M25, we don't go in that often, although we have been going more recently since our son moved to Southwark, having started work in London. Once I got to the station, I quickly realised why we don't go into London that often, as it's now £22 for a travelcard, and that's off-peak and with us living just outside the M25, so relatively close. Then there's also the cost of parking at the station, which I think is something like £9 now. Luckily I know somewhere I can park and from where it's not too long to walk ... read more

Today we had to get up early so we could go get our pre-flight home covid test. We booked and paid ahead of time and it was not cheap. It was a quick walk to the clinic and the test itself took less than 30 seconds. We then went back to the hotel and had breakfast. This was the best breakfast of all the hotel breakfasts included in our trip. Not only was there the standard Full English buffet, there were pancakes, waffles and you could order off the menu. I ordered Eggs Benedict. Poached eggs were perfect, hollandaise sauce needed serious help. Jerry did standard scrambled and cheese melted on top. After breakfast we were off. This is our third trip to London, so we have done much of the standard sights, London Tower, Buckingham ... read more

It was very nice to have the train steps just outside our hotel. We got up showered and rolled out to the station. We were on the Avanti 1st class so breakfast is provided on the train. The journey is 4 ½ hours from Glasgow. We passed more Scottish country side, then English Country side. It was a relaxing journey (seats could be a bit more comfortable.) Breakfast was actually cooked on the train, not pre -fabed airplane food. We both just had simple scrambled eggs and toast. They were pretty consistent with the beverage cart so coffee and water were plentiful. A bit about train travel. We get most of our train advise from the Website Man in Seat 61. He has excellent information regarding train service and routes. However, I do disagree with him ... read more

We did a part of Royal Parks Walks on 2 May – starting from Camden Town station, we went through Regent Park, Regent Canal via Little Venice and Kensington Gardens. On 3 June, we started from Lancaster Gate and walked through Kensington Gardens and strolled through Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Walk. There were a lot of colourful, scented roses and flowers blooming on the beds, arches and obelisks and canes - they looked very beautiful and offered therapeutic atmosphere with lovely garden ornaments. Afterwards, we crossed over the busy roads and passed through Duke of Wellington Memorial Arch and entered Green Park. As expected, a part of green Park was closed; we had to take an alternate route to reach Westminster. Mark had brought a little A-Z guide. After leaving Green Park, we walked down ... read more

As directed by ‘Walking in London’ by Peter Aylmer, we began the walk from Camden Town station. Following signposts, we walked through bustling high street with a number of independent shops selling interesting looking items. We entered Regent Park from northeast gate and passed chestnut lined Broad walk and head for Queen Mary’s gardens. Roses were not out yet, but there were lot of flowers blooming on the beds and water rock gardens. Though he seemed to be a little confused with directions, Mark managed to find ways to find the bridge to join the towpath of Regent’s canal. I remembered walking along Regent’s Cana in 2000 before we married. Nothing was changed from that time – we saw a number of grand mansions with valley gardens along the towpath. We were then directed go up ... read more

On 1 June I started the walk from Blackfriars Station where I finished two days ago. From Blackfrairs Bridge, there were remains of the old bridge paralleled with the current railway bridge – and having looked at the monument, I understood that the old railway bridge used for London Chetham and Dover Railway. As soon as reaching the south bankside, I walked down and headed for the riverside walk via Founders Arm Public House and Bankside gallery. I had a nice snack at Founders Arm Public House. Afterwards, I walked on the Queen’s Walk and passed Tate Britain, Globe Theatre, and turned right to Bear Gardens. There were a number of modern buildings on the back of the Glove Theatre and they looked intriguing with brick buildings. After briefly passing Summer Street, I was directed to ... read more

Lonely Planet announces: Two of Europe's biggest rail operators are merging to create a combined high-speed network that serves the UK, France, the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium. Cross-Channel high-speed rail service, Eurostar, is joining forces with the French-Belgian rail operator Thalys to expand services across Europe. For travelers, this merger gives them a greater choice of simplified journeys on a single ticket. As instructed by London Literary Walking guide, I started the course from Embankment station. I walked through small alleyways, gone past Embankment Gardens, the building where Samuel Pepsy used to live and the building has been used for Royal Society of Arts before reaching main street, Strand. As expected, Union Jack flags were hanged between buildings on Strand. I found a very interesting shop, i.e. Stanley Gibson, the specialist stamp & coin shop and popped in. There were huge variety types of stamps with Royal family members, Commonwealth countries stamps and stamp albums and valuable coins. All the staff were wearing formal dress code, blazers and formal trousers and ties. I used to have someone who was very fond of Royal family and could have bought some for her, but she’s not here anymore. I bought ... read more

Thank you for following my travel blogs so far as this is where my adventure in Europe, truly begins. After collecting my bag at the baggage collection, I made my way towards the Tube station to hop on a train to Russel Square station, which looking like a clueless tourist, was at the wrong station as the ticket machine wouldn’t allow me to purchase a ticket to Russel Square station. Starting to be a little confused and nervous, I was told by an assistant that I was at the wrong station and needed to go to the Underground Station to catch the Underground Tube Line to Russel Square. Hopping on the Tube, the first thing I noticed is how clean it was, no graffiti insight (take note Sydney). While the Tube took around 1 hour to ... read more
