Hello All, Ashley here. Well, I spent all of Thursday in the British Museum. It just fascinates me and is only a few blocks from Dan's classes, close enough that we can meet for lunch. I've taken many pictures, and I will post a few here. The Museum is the perfect place to hide from the hot weather. It has continued to be around 30 C which is about 86 F. London is just not designed for this type of weather, and there has been a smog alert issued for the first time in three years. We are supposed to have some rain come in today and over the weekend, and we are hoping this will cool things down a bit. Talk to you soon, Love, Ashley.... read more

Well, the mold turned out to be worse than we had originally thought, and we've chosen to move. We now are staying at a hotel near Paddington Station, which thankfully is mold free. We decided that the mold in Willesden Green was making us feel ill, and was leaving a negative impact on our trip. Dan was very resourceful and found us a new home. We will be here for the next nine days. Our new location is larger, has a bigger kitchen, a much nicer bathroom (which includes a bathtub as well as a shower that does not cause claustrophobia!), twelve foot ceilings, and a much more comfortable bed. We also are near a wireless internet node, meaning we can access the internet via our laptop. In other news we had a delicious lunch at ... read more

so today was the last day for london. tomorrow morning we are taking the chunnel to paris. but today was another full day. we made it to breakfast this time, and again the fruit and croissants were good. we then headed out to the brittish museum. the free-ness of it was fabulous... the expansive walking was not fabulous. mike says i have morbid curiosity because i was most interested in the preserved corpses. we then grabbed lunch at a sort of modern pub... more cocktails, less guinness. we still can't figure out the tip situation. people just don't leave tips so much, and the credit receipts don't leave lines to add tips. sometimes it's included in the price, but most of the time not. we're still rather confused. we may have several waitresses and waiters after ... read more

The London adventure continues. Today sleep seemed more valuable than breakfast, but we drug ourselves up to go meet up with Dan, Michelle, Chad, and Jenni. First we grabbed a bite to eat at an English pub... I had a budweiser to keep up the American way. We thought we'd just meet up with Dan later as they had a lot to take care of with Michelle just having arrived, but we ran into them outside the tube station. They were dragging around both of their luggage so we gave them a hand to Dan's friend's flat. We then headed out to the Tower of London where we were supposed to meet up with Chad and Jenni, but we werent' sure exactly where. So we bought some tickets (this was the first place that has accepted ... read more

Arose early for our complimentary breakfast, which was fantastic for a complimentary continental breakfast in a city that's known for fried fish and potatoes. We talked to this guy whose daughter went to Duke... too bad for her. We then trucked through the cold rain to see the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. We stood there with a swarm of japanese tourists and other westerners and europeans taking pictures of the most random things. I think my camera focused in more on the raindrops in the air and on the lens, sadly. Then we headed to the Worrell House and met up with the other Wake Law students, who had just finished their last class. After a refreshing visit with familiar faces, Mike and I grabbed a bite to eat and returned to the ... read more

After taking the red-eye flight from RDU to London, we arrived at Gatwick Airport around 7 am. We were lucky to find our luggage right off the bat and we breezed through customs. We took a tram out to the train station and boarded the Gatwick Express for Victoria. The train wasn't very crowded, but this was the first instance which I wished I had packed a smaller suitcase. Christina and I had a heckuva time trying to get the luggage through the little doors between the cars, and even tougher time stowing them but it all worked out. We got off the Express Train and headed for the tube station which at about 8:30 in the morning turned out to be an absolute nightmare. Lugging 60 lbs. of clothes through a crowd of thousands is ... read more

Well have made in to London. Got the Gatwick Express from Gatwick to Victoria Station, passed though green countryside with terraced houses. Amazing to see the green after the brown countryside of Spain. As the trian pulled into London, you could look out and see the roofs of houses, and it looked like something out of Corranation Street. (I know Corranation Street is not set in London, but the look was the same.) Tube ride from Victoria to the hostel near St Pauls, horrible as ever, hovever it was rush hour so it is to be expected. People crowding into trains, guards telling people to stand clear of the doors, move down the carriages, move down the platform, ... and people ignoring them ... hard for me to understand because there was another train a few ... read more

Hello All! Well I managed to do it! Land an Account Managers Job here in London! Phew!! Its been a pretty busy last month here in London town, racing around to job interviews, moving flats, seeing friends, realising that I spend half of my day in the tubes, it was all becoming a bit of a blur, then all of a sudden I have a great offer of a really good job, in a great agency with what seems like some great people to work with, and I start next Monday (wish me luck!) I will work for two weeks, then I'm off baby! Amy hits europe! Woohoo! After our brush with (minor) celebrity chef Ben O'Donoghue at the Atlantic Bar and Grill in Soho we thought we'd aim our sights a bit higher and head to Jamie Oliver's London restaurant Fifteen for lunch. Actually we were lucky enough to be given a voucher to Fifteen by two of Andrew's clients in Adelaide to thank him for being their personal trainer. It was a very generous and thoughtful gift and we felt extremely privileged. Fifteen is housed in an old warehouse at the end of a small and quiet street in the east central area of London, an up-and coming area that appears pretty dull and drab until you scratch the surface. Not somewhere you'd expect a world-famous restaurant to be housed, but in a way that adds to the charm. After watching the ... read more
