As I settle in here, I realize that I do not need to rush through all the tourist-y things because I have plenty of time. I realized this after deciding to go to Westminster on Saturday afternoon to see Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, and Trafalgar Square. Now I realize that I chose Saturday afternoon. But. There were so may people that it was almost impossible to get down the street. Then the tube shut down, along with all of the streets around these sites. So I hung out on Westminster Bridge for an hour and a half and just people watched. The biggest question of the day was, "Will you take our picture?" And with the Thames flowing behind them, Big Ben on their left, I could hardly blame them for asking. I decided to go ... read more

This will officially be the shortest blog out of London. After my day of touring I met up with Sarah as she made her way into the city to attend a Justin Timberlake concert. I told her i'd gladly make the trip to see the new O2 entertainment complex...formerly the Millenium place/centre..whatever. Is a very cool complex. It is a massive 1km in diamater canvas dome that has streets on the inside...and further on inside is a new arena that will house concerts and even in Late September two exhibition NHL games...featuring the Ducks and the opponents i can't remember. ANYWAY, we went there...checked the sites out and even had a nice meal while there. I said goodbye and made my way back to Picadilly circus for a few pictures at night. The crazy's were ... read more

mentalism Europe » United Kingdom » England » London » Greenwich By Aries QuestJuly 7th 2007 this is just a back post (and opportunity to post photos) from the other night in greenwich. mentalist association gig it reminded me of a cross between arthouse and a rock and roll party at the eisenhower loft in brooklyn. The crowd was young and hip, in a very similar way that the rocknroll crowd in brooklyn is (but totally not as open and friendly). it was actually eery how similar. the big difference: the music. i'm not even sure i c... read more

I stood on the Prime Meridian (0 degrees longitude) today. I was at Greenwich of course! And finally, some warm weather too. What a difference it makes. After no sunshine for the last 2 weeks I felt re-energised. The National Maritime Museum and Royal Observatory is out at Greenwich. I spent a fair bit of time at both places. I found all the history about early exploration addictive. It made me think what it must have been like to live back in the 18th century with all the great explorers discovering new countries, people, and cultures. Today, I can only liken it to space explorers finding and exploring new planets. Seems a far-stretched thought, though maritime discovery must have seemed just as crazy back then. And talk about being in the right place at the ... read more

Kieron writes… We were still surrounded by clusters of uncategorised prospective baggage, our backpacks as distendedly skinny as Stace’s belly. The airport transfer was due in 90 minutes, but we remained locked in the moral and ethical case for packing a 10th t-shirt each. I felt the need to stride purposefully into my bedroom to re-examine (for the umpteenth time that fateful night) my underwear choices including the appropriate ratio of regular versus trainer socks. When I returned to the living room, a growing air of tension hung in the air (or perhaps it was the continuing effect of the Turkish “last supper” on the Furlong digestive plumbing). Any delusions that we’d catch any shut eye that night had surrendered like west ham’s rearguard at the feet of Wright-Philips - it had been a grim evening ... read more

the big day dawned hot and sunny and we made the most of our last lazy start from our own bed - yes we are now officially (and intentionally) homeless! before arising to pack final items and begin - waving to Heidi and Julian as we pass the familar and idyllic surroundings in Ham, southwest London, one last time. past the pond, wisteria in full bloom, up into Richmond Park and away along the Thames which will lead us out of London to the east coast. At Waterloo we meet our support party, Guy, Fiona, George, Senai, who ride with us towards Greenwich where we meet a few more good friends to toast our departure. Greenwich is beautiful today and it's hard to leave - sad goodbyes said to everyone, we leave at last as ... read more

Monday I conveniently was ill, well to ill to go to work, but not ill enough to stop me from going to Greenwich to hang out for the day. Was nice just chilling out in the sun, something that Nic is good at after holidaying for so long. She is in the process of looking for a job now, don't think she is looking that hard though. I don't blame her. I have handed in my resignation at work and finish up at the end of the month. I am going to head back up to Barrow for summer. Hopefully it will entail cricket, beers, sun and bbq's. Monday night we went and caught up with a couple of Nic's friends - Cat and Jill for a few drinks. Just as we were leaving Cat went ... read more

Hi all Finally we are on our way! In less than 24 hours from now we will be in Buenos Aires, home of Tango, and the place you can get a great steak for $5. We have the luxury of 6 days to recover from the trials and tribulations of the last 6 months, before we head down to Patagonia to start the hard work including 5 days of trekking 'the W' route in Torres del Paine - oops probably should have done a bit more fitness for that bit... Anyway, this is just to let you know we are off, and there will be updates with photos whenever we can fathom out what we are doing. Hope you all have a fabulous summer - keep sending us your updates too! Rich & Catrin ;-)... read more

Well I am here in london, I don't really know what part of london I'm in, it's all kind of the same to me. Now I know what people were thinking when they ask "so your from vancouver?" and I reply "No i''m from langley" So far the trip has been success! After the first day, where I was pritty much usless after my wohpping 3 hours of sleep on the flight, I awoke on my second day at about 430 rearrin to go. I spent pritty much the entire day just meandering around the city with no real agenda, except a missinon to find a free map of london, ( which I eventually did.) And 8 hours, one sore leg, a close call with a car, and allot of time being compleatly lost I finally ... read more
