We got a text from Clive this morning, and after talking to him on the phone, have arranged to try to meat him for a coffee later today. Our plan for today is to go to the Greenwich observatory where you can stand in booth of the world's hemispheres simultaneously, As well, they have a display on about the North West Passage which my cousin Chris has recommended. Getting to Greenwich involves taking the DLR line, a local train service that runs past the new developments at the docklands. This area, which includes Canary Wharf, looks completely different from London and much more like Toronto than anything we have seen. Despite the recession, the construction here seems to be continuing. When we arrived at Greenwich, we walked a short distance along the Thames to a place ... read more

Look we know you guys in New Zealand are FREEZING 'cos we are up with the news here in sunny and warm London and we do feel for you.But we are pleased we are here and the weather continues to play ball and make the sightseeing so much more enjoyable. A change of shower venue this morning meant all we had to do is use the vacant studio apartment next door and save some time from walking across the railway. We met our planned departure time of 10am and hit the road up to the railway through the rubbish left by the locals from last night. It must be something to do with the socio economic are we are staying in as we havent seen this sort of mess in other areas we have walked in ... read more

Hey everybody! March 2/09 Well, the past week was extremely busy, felt like a lot busier than usual but anyhow, survived although at the moment still a bit run down. I had one youth panel for a young girl which was very interesting. I have really enjoyed the panels and so far, they haven't been difficult to the point where we refer back to court which is definately good. I did my volunteer work at the charity shop and had a rather interesting day setting off the smoke alarm while dusting off all the cobwebs everywhere! Apparently nobody else cared that it was disgusting so I found a duster and went for it, lesson to be learned - turn off heaters when dusting nearby! Also, a 30's male helped himself to a few pairs of shoes ... read more

In 10 months I've crossed the Thames by foot, tube, bus, I think even car, but somehow boats haven't made the list ... until now. A photography group trip to Greenwich including a cruise to the Thames Barrier helped tick that last box, well until I find another box that is! About 70 of us jumped on a boat to cruise up the Thames past the O2 arena to the mighty, shiny Thames Barrier. The Thames Barrier was constructed between 1974 and 1984 and is designed to slow down flood waters caused by high tides and tidal surges (bit of a problem in the North Atlantic apparently). I doubt it would stop them, but hopefully if it would give them enough time to make sure poor punters like me are out of the tube before water ... read more
