We arrived back in London after a great trip to Spain and felt like we had been slapped in the face. What followed were an interesting couple of weeks of hostel hopping during which we discovered the following about London: 1.The hostels are really dodgy and expensive, especially when you are doing the “hostel hop” every night. 2. Nothing ever happens quickly; always expect the worse. 3. Public holidays seem to slow the process down even more, especially when there are two in a month and you are unemployed. 4. Roast chicken and stuffing sandwiches from M&S taste good but are likely to have repercussions for at least 12 hours after consumption. 5. Flatfinder is a BIG waste of time and money unless you want to live in a house with 12 people in Willesden ... read more

To celebrate Emily’s birthday, we all met up after work on Wednesday and had some 2 for 1 cocktails before going to Sofra, a Turkish restaurant in Covent Garden for tea. The food was delicious, I had a meal which had 11 different portions. We ended up getting back to our flat at midnight. Emily and Richard were up to about 3:30! Thursday was a bit of a struggle. Saturday was St Patrick’s day so drinking had to be the order of the day. Brogans in Fulham was the pub we decided on, we arrived to see the end of the Ireland v Italy six nations rugby match and then France v Scotland. It was a bit disappointing that Ireland didn’t win overall. The Irish weren’t depressed for too long though due to watching Wales beat ... read more

Sooooo....the girls took the day off, I was off work already (yay for the 3-week holiday following the celebrations :D) and spent the night out, so got home just in time to shower and leave to meet the girls at the restaurant. Day started very well...lunch + cocktails then straight to the next door pub! It was 1pm still and we were drinking, chatting, drinking, chatting...drinking, dancing, texting...I had an aussie flag on my cheek for the girls, so had to go with my brazilian jersey, which made a bunch of people come up to me to ask if I were br or aussie and some of them had lived/visited Brazil, so it was very cool! Anyways...not much to say actually! We just hung out at the pub, met some new people...and by 8:30pm I ... read more

I think I haven't travelled decently since my 1st time in Berlin, Jan 2006!! Dublin was new and very cool, but I didn't have much time so couldn't really explore it...well, Paris I walked aaaaaaaaaaall over, but mainly that! Anyways...I'm gonna have 3 weeks off very soon, but the budget is low to travel for that long, so I'm going on a little backpacking roadtrip through the UK! :D I wrote down an intinerary with a bunch of cities I wanted to go to, but got kinda turned off when I did the math hehehe so I narrowed down to six: Liverpool- Manchester- Leeds- York- Newcastle- Edinburgh. Leeds and York I'm not even that excited, I just added cause it's really close to Manchester and on the way to Newcastle, so...it won't hurt to spend ... read more

There is no public transport on Christmas Day so we all headed over to Helen’s flat in Fulham on Christmas Eve to have a bit of a sleepover before Christmas Day. I said ‘Merry Christmas and Happy New Year’ to Irene, who is heading over to Prague and Paris for the festive season. We finished preparing the Christmas decorations around the flat then started watching a Christmas movie on TV while we waited for the others to arrive. We played Cranium, Mafia and a few other games through the afternoon, and then the boys: Josh, Chicken Little (Craig) and their newly arrived friend Richard, came over for a few Christmas drinks in the afternoon, before catching the last tube home (in the hope they would not get stuck here!) Matt and I went down to the ... read more

Jumped on the overland to Putney Bridge. Jumped off. Ran in to the local Tescos grabbed a litre beer. Crossed Putney Bridge. Got stopped by a Bobby who told us to finish our beers and throw them away. Walked through a park past an old church, ran into more police. They told us if they were us they would take those beers and finish them behind that building over there! How cool is that, back in the states not only would we all have been fined but we would have all had Open Container violations on our record as well as a pending court date! Cops over here are able to keep things in perspective. Went to a pub called the Crab Tree, grabbed a pint. Went to the game, which was nothing on the Chelsea ... read more

I love those snake pints...they'll always have a place in my heart... thanks, aussie Aaron, for making me try deliciousness that gets me drunk in a heartbeat! I sooooooooooooo needed it... actually, still do! But anyways... Yeah, nothing useful to say... it's late, I'm still drunk, but I don't have class tomorrow morning! :D Life's good again... besides the one I didn't go to today and went shopping instead, which was followed by a stroll in the park with a hot guy checking me out, but I'm stupid and turned my head the other way... oh yeah, and that happened 3 times!! How stupid can a person be in just ... read more

Strangely enough, after 7 weeks off, I welcomed September’s start to the 2006/2007 school year. The travel I had done had managed to burn a rather large whole in my wallet; and if my liver was worth salvaging, it was going to take time. Finding day-to-day supply teaching in London was easy, and thankfully ensured a return of steady cash flow - essential in this stupidly expensive city. Ive opted against permanent work since the fulltime position I held in Leeds drew all the longterm responsibilty that came with it. And report writing would only get in the way of weekend travel. For the first four weeks my work has been interspersed between two North London Schools, both uniquely different. One of my workplaces is a “nice” Boys school in an otherwise rough area. Epic tales ... read more

1 week to go. Nearly everything is packed, including all my clothes which means i am forced to wear utility / beach gear to work and every evening out for the next week. The cats are off to a new home in Bournemouth on Monday and every night between now and when I leave is filled with seeing friends & family. To say I'm terrified is an understatement but I'm also hugely excited. Decided to add a few pictures from my last nights in England to this entry - more of a photo blog. Next entry could perhaps be from Argentina!... read more
