I was up and about early ..walked my dog and got straight on the phone , I decided to try Mitchells cycles in the City , I explained that i was "jogling and desperat to fix the wheel "i was really pleased to get a positive response , "we are open from 10 but just bring the wheel in and we will get it done". By 11 am , i had the repaired wheel in hand and scurried home to reassemble the bike ...best of all is tha Mitchells Cycles from Barton St Gloucester did not charge me anything to straighten the wheel and to replace 4 spokes ! "back of the net"! I had a Facebook message from a friend who is in training for a London/Paris ride , he said he would head out ... read more

Today my host Martin took me and Mareika to a Rugby match in Gloucester. It was so much fun. The drive was an hour and a half through the beautiful Cotswold country side. Mind blowing. We left at 9:30 and got to the pitch really super early. The match was Bath vs. Gloucester and they are rivals. That means it is called a needle match. The whole place was sold out- 16,500 people there! We were in a place called the shed where you stand. We had a pretty great view. It was so neat and they played really fast! A couple of nights before we watched a taped game on tv and Martin and Mareika explained the rules to me. It was great fun. At half time I went to the washroom. What a struggle, ... read more

so this week has seen a couple of sessions on the spinner and a scheduled 80 miler on Saturday 12th Feb, this started at 06.30 and began ok but after about 15 miles , i managed to get a rear wheel puncture, this i repaired in about 25 mins , no mean feat as i had to fight with the panniers /deralieur/rack etc , i then set off again only for the rear tyre to go down again, i was now mighty peed off but decided to change the inner tube , another wasted 30 mins.It was at this point i realised that a return to home was the best bet as id missed almost an hour of my schedule. On the journey back i had a front tyre puncture , i did manage to limp ... read more

Thursday 8.4.2010 day 176 Gloucester We woke up and finished the book we have been reading. After that we went to Gloucester and found some big shopping centres and big computer shops. They did not have what we need to fix our computer so we decided to buy another new computer this is the second laptop we have got in our 6 months of travelling. We also got a second external hard drive as all this travelling is hard work on our computers and external hard drives. We also gave our car a clean inside as well. ... read more

We visited Gloucester with my cousin over the New Year in 2006. We explored the Gloucester Cathedral, strolled through the town and Gloucester Docks. Unfortunately, the National Waterway Museum and other museums were closed on 31 December 2006. Having heard from the museum fro one of our friends, we wanted to visit there for a long time, but the plan was cancelled twice, flooding in summer 2007 and the refurbishment that needed to be carried out in 2008 following the flooding. I checked the website of National Waterway Museum, and found that the museum opens on the weekends between November and M arch. Thus, we took the time off work between 27 February and 2 March 2009. We took British Rail from Paddington on 27 February and it brought us Gloucester at 2pm. We then ... read more

We were up very bright and early on this exciting day. I was going to be driving to Oxford and then onto Gloucester today ... or at least that is what the plan was. We had prebooked a car that we would collect near the Heathrow airport. Had already determined that I didn't want to be driving in London city at all, and the outskirts seemed like a reasonable proposition. It was a nice little car that we had hired, and with a GPS system we had no worries at all that we could do it. Getting out onto the main road was fun, and then I discovered that the windscreen wipers and indicator lights were the opposite side to what I'm used to. It meant for alot of wipers being used instead of indicators unfortunately, ... read more

Definitely A Change Of Scenery!!! From Bath to Bristol took me through rolling hills and picturesque countryside for the short one hour trip. The minute we hit the city limits though, I wished I was back in Bath. Bristol is a city of workers. Coming from it's history as a main sea port for Britain and from the major centre for the slave trade back a few centuries, the city was damaged heavily in WWII and in the rush to provide housing and trade, the city constructed the blandest, most mundane buildings in the place of what used to be wealthy abodes. The city is now combating this through projects of redevelopment like the new docklands to attract trendier business and clientele. Aside from this, the city does have one of the better transport systems to ... read more

Well finally back home and as promised, some pics. Had an unbelievable time on the trip - will write about the pics individually due to being awake for 36 hours straight. According to my trusty travel diary, which I'm glad I took due to so much happening in the last month, and quite possibly a few million braincells killed along the way, we arrived in London at 12pm on 2/5/08. I'm led to believe we got straight on the tube (awesome transport system I might add) and legged it pommy-prat style to Russell Square to the Royal National accommodation. We walked around for a couple of hours but it started raining and we were pretty buggered by that stage and crashed for the night. The next day we did the tourist thing, went for a spin ... read more
