Rządził nim Ansgar do 1066 kiedy to osadę podbili Normanowie. Saffron Walden otrzymało prawa miejskie w 1295 roku. Około XIV - XV wieku miasto zajmowało się handlem wełną, a później zajęło ... read more

Mark had taken a day off on Thursday, 17 July. John & Mary agreed to come down to Audley End on that day. We met up with them at the station’s car park. There was a signpost for Audley End from the station and there were people walking towards the destination. Having entered the site, John was directed to the parking area near the service wing. As it was lunch time, we decided to have lunch. We secured the table by the window, and were able to see a beautiful landscape garden consisting of the river, arched bridge, Temple of Victory and the sizeable green space. After lunch, we started strolling through the kitchen adjacent to the restaurant. We looked round Butler’s Pantry, Kitchen, Larder and Cook’s room. There were silver collections owned by the Countess ... read more

My name is Isobelle Clarke and on the 23rd April, 2015 I successfully submitted my dissertations - Yes I did mean to include an '-s' at the end of dissertation, because that's right I completed two! Without being too stereotypical, after I had finished university I needed a break from libraries and studying, so I decided to go on a cultural adventure and I quickly booked my first few flights around Asia. If you have ever spoken to someone who has been travelling (if you are planning on travelling, or not), then most of them will tell you that "PREPARATION IS KEY". In my attempt to prepare I visited many websites about things to take when travelling and what to do before you travel. And in the short time frame that I had I managed to ... read more

Thursday 16 July 2012 With a feeling of excitement and anticipation we woke ready for our first big adventure of the day - the Eurotunnel. We had two instructions that were sure to get us there on time. The first were the GPS coordinates. The second take exit 42. For the first time on this trip we chose the toll road. The receptionist at the hotel said it would cost 1€20 and take twenty minutes. So we programmed Polly and off we went. As we approached exit 42 we realised Polly had gone to sleep. A quick manouvre and we were through exit 42. Polly woke with a start, "If possible do a U turn". Do we ignore Polly or follow the easy-to-follow signs? The signs win. Passed the self check in, through UK immigration, drive ... read more

We had initially planned going to Flatford Mill on Thursday, 14 May. However, the weather forecast on that day wasn’t’ favourable; it was only that day the rain symbol was shown in that week. We thus changed the schedule; we decided to meet up with John & Mary and go to Flatford on Saturday, 16 May. It was raining all on 14 May and it didn’t look good. We took the train from Liverpool Street at 11:00 and arrived at Manningtree station at 12:00. John & Mary were so kind that they picked us up at the station and took us to Flatford. Sitting beside the River Stour and in the heart of the countryside of Dedham Vale, Flatford offers a series of beautiful landscapes, which inspired John Constable many years ago. There are historic buildings ... read more

Every year for as long as I care to remember my best mate from back at school and I have travelled down to Le Mans for the 24 hour race (as well as more recently for the Classic). The journey always involves winding down the D roads through France in whatever fun car one or both of us owned at the time finding the best roads and routes. Over recent years we have been joined by two other friends, Jon a fellow Porsche owner and drinking buddy and Paul a friend of Jon and I from the pub. Four makes a perfect road trip group. Two cars, two drivers and two passengers/navigators. Every year around the “camp fire” of empty Kronenborg stubbies we had discussed doing a big road trip like the one Jason and I ... read more
