Day 11 - Although I love walking I am increasingly finding it harder to find somewhere new to walk. The same old routes. I pound the same old streets . I look at the same old houses. I try to find ways to make the walk interesting. I look into peoples gardens to see what is growing. I look at the houses . Many pre- 1950 are interesting. Built with love and a care to attention. They are individual, in larger than life plots and in keeping with the area. The 1970's semi detached . All looking the same. The same brick . The same design set in smaller gardens . We had one . Our first house. We were grateful for it . No tarmacced drive in those days . We were lucky to get ... read more

It's that time of the day again. Blog time . Time to catch up on another 24 hours of similar news. In the same place , sitting in the same chair perhaps we think we ought to sleep in Gabby tonight. I have lost a sock in the washing. That is the excitement for the day. It will turn up. Probably stuck in between the bedding in Gabby. How I long to write a different heading . No longer Derbyshire and Chesterfield but somewhere else . Somewhere where I can see and hear the sea. To smell its distinct smell . To walk around a garden and smell the flowers. To get in Gabby and set off somewhere.Anywhere . Dont mind a bit of travelling . It feels though a long time before we will get ... read more

Day 9 of lockdown. I think it is Day 9 but then again it could be any day. The days are drifting by. The household jobs are being done and ticked off one by one. Scones were made. The music listened to was Queen . The wonderful Freddie Mercury entertained me whilst I cooked . The daily walk takes place . Being a Sunday it is quiet. A few cars passed by as I walked . An ambulance roared past me. I wondered where he was going. All this walking may be good for the weight but it plays havoc on the ankles . The weather too was cold . It even began to snow. So much for British Summer Time . An extra hour in bed or an extra hour sitting on the couch. A ... read more

Gabby the motorhome is more home than away. She is parked up chomping at the bit waiting to get away. We are about 30 days away from our cancelled Scandanavian oddysey. So the countdown has changed now to months rather than weeks as we hope to get away early September. I doubt it will be the far north this year . Looks like Autumn in the Ploppy Knees as Sion calls that area of Greece known as the Pelopenese . Motorhomers in their droves are putting their vehicles on SORN - off road until the lockdown ends . They then get a refund on their excise duty . We have not done it and probably will not do it . The government is probably going to need that revenue after this crisis is over. The days ... read more

It is Tuesday - isnt it ? Or is it Wednesday? I find not going to work for two days a week has sent me into that area of not knowing what day of the week it is. When did we start social distancing ? Was it last week or the week before ? When did lockdown happen? Well it certainly takes some working out. I walked along the main road one way on Sunday. I walked the reverse trip on Monday so it must be Tuesday . No the postbox down the road says the collection is on Wednesday. I wonder when the collections will stop every day. We probably will see alternate days post deliveries within a week . Can you remember the post in the 50's and early 60's? Thinking about alternate days ... read more

By my bedside I have a calendar. I tear off one day at a time. The topics they cover are all eastern in flavour. Some days I get a proverb which may be Korean , Chinese or Indian. Another day it will be some deep Buddhist philosophy. It may be the sayings of Gandhi or some Hindu seer . What seems noticeable at the moment is that each seems prophetic. As if someone already knew that we would be in the midst of a crisis that is world wide and knows no boundary. They are sometimes thought provoking, sometimes too complicated to understand but most of the time there is a message in them . I look forward to each morning ripping off another day to see what the thought is . How about this one ... read more

OK thought for today - or thoughts - if you want a lot of hits on your blog include in the title a few words like naughty , nudity and Wuhan. Boy will you see the numbers reading the blog go up. I often smile when I look back at my naughty women in Pavia and my blog on Port Grimaud where I mentioned topless ladies . The hits are massive compared to a normal blog on a tiny village in France or sitting by the sea in Croatia. I am not sure whether I should feel sad or smile when I think of the readers being utterly annoyed when they actually get into the content only to realise it was not what they thought it was. I guess Wuhan had the same effect as I ... read more

The worlds gone mad. That's what it feels like. Gabby is sitting outside on the drive doing nothing. The planned weeks holiday has been cancelled . Wind back a few weeks. A few weeks ago we were walking around a Japanese Garden supposedly full of Hellebores - Christmas Roses to you and me. It was not the best of Japanese gardens nor were the Hellebores magnificent but at least we got out and about. Looking back it was good to be out and about in the fresh air. The storms had passed, The nights were starting to draw out and Spring felt just around the corner. The trees were starting to be tinged with green and the birds were nest building . We were going to a snowdrop garden . Never made it . We had ... read more

At the moment we are in a funny old place . Life seems on hold . So many things are going on in our busy old lives. The election back end of last year, the leadership election , Brexit and now the leaders election for the Labour Party , the Transition period and floods - two storms and more on the way . Then there is Coronavirus . Shelves emptied of handwash , toilet rolls and pasta . The whole world seems to have gone mad and I want to jump off it . John Aske a prominent Buddhist gave me a bit of inspiration today when I read my calendar offering . "Unhappiness and rain just drift by and are gone. They are visitors ". Ok the rain has only been drizzling today so that ... read more

"The Drops of dew fall one by one. This world is perfect. Issa Kobayashi. Well it's not quite dew. In fact it's stormy weather . Storm Ciera has hit our small island and caused havoc. Rivers have broken their banks and overflowed into fields, roads, houses and shops. The high winds have caused structural damage. Trees have been blown down. Cars have floated down the streets which now look like rivers. Closely followed by Storm Dennis . More of the same . Just different parts of the country. The climate is changing and changing fast . Today is a bit of a shock. We wake to a car covered in frost . The temperature gauge shows zero . By 8.00 it has risen to 3 degrees and it feels like Spring has arrived . What a ... read more
