Wingerworth churchyard
Well you know you won't bump into anyone when you walk around a graveyard . One of the older tombstones from around the 17th century Gabby the motorhome is more home than away. She is parked up chomping at the bit waiting to get away. We are about 30 days away from our cancelled Scandanavian oddysey. So the countdown has changed now to months rather than weeks as we hope to get away early September. I doubt it will be the far north this year . Looks like Autumn in the Ploppy Knees as Sion calls that area of Greece known as the Pelopenese . Motorhomers in their droves are putting their vehicles on SORN - off road until the lockdown ends . They then get a refund on their excise duty . We have not done it and probably will not do it . The government is probably going to need that revenue after this crisis is over.
The days are feeling still very odd as we try to keep as normal as possible., More walks , more baking , more looking out of the window wishing that things were normal . We have had our " clap for the NHS " where we were supposed to stand outside our homes and clap loudly to show our solidarity and gratitude with the nurses and
the doctors . Wish they had called it something else . Some of our towns and cities were lit up blue to celebrate the work of the NHS. Every week at 8pm we are encouraged to go into the street or hang our heads out of our windows to celebrate our NHS nurses and doctors .
Our Boris has the virus . He took ill with just mild symptoms yesterday . He is self isolating in a flat at number 11. It seems he has passed it to others in the Cabinet. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have hotfooted out of London to one of their other homes at Windsor. Prince Charles has the virus and is isolating in Balmoral . Being miles away from anyone he can fish, hunt and shoot to his hearts content . All have been given the test to see if they have the virus . Yet we are being told it should only be used for the person who is most ill with the virus . Not for mild cold or flu like symptoms . Ah well one rule for the rich and another for the poor and the health workers .
Hairdressers have closed down so there will be lot of long haired folk and roots that need touching up in a few weeks. The government have pledged to give all self employed 80% of their earnings averaged out over the past 3 years . We need the small businesses to keep running as they are the backbone of the economy. Where the money will come from is anyones guess ? Borrowing again and probably years of austerity looming.
We wash the car to within an inch of its life . We listen to music. They say it soothes the savage brow. I look along the selection of CD's. They have been gathering dust . Which one shall I choose ? First choice a blast from the past . In a big country - by Big Country. Big Country were a scottish rock band formed in Dunfermaline , Fife in 1981. The height of their popularity was the early to mid 1980's, Their music a style of Scottish folk music but more rock and more earthy . Not listened to them for years. Today as the music filled the kitchen it brought back memories of the 1980's that were long forgotten . I am sure more memories will surface with each CD that comes off the shelf.
Walk today took me around the local churchyard . You know you are safe from meeting anyone in there . Rummaging around the tombs I found myself fascinated by the age of some of them. The oldest dating back to 1693. Time for a quiet moment standing underneath the yew trees reading the names on the old weathered stones .
