Brett, Therese, Sarah and I did a day trip out to Cambridge today. A lovely quaint little university town. There is some amazing architecture and the university buildings are just spectacular. Certainly a place I could enjoy leaving in.... read more

It is true, we are travel addicts! We have decided to go to Spain for a few days in May. We have been back for 2 months now so it MUST be time to go somewhere else! Thanks to the joys of Ryanair we managed to get cheap flights - for just over £50 each we are flying to Seville and back from Granada. We hope to get the train between them. We have not managed to book the accommodation yet but hopefully we can find something that is not too expensive. I hope it is warm out there as it is STILL cold in the UK. I thought that the cold weather would pretty much be gone by the time we got home but unfortunately that was not the case, there was ice on my ... read more

On 24 February, Ver and I continued our excellent adventure and set off to one of the intellectual hubs of England, Cambridge. We were lucky enough to be invited to a formal dinner at Jesus College by Kate, Penny and Doug. We were thrown straight into the set of Harry Potter when we dined with Englands finest - in gowns and all! Interestingly, the cost of a 3 course dinner in the fine dining hall was only £5 each and there is a BYO policy so needless to say, Ver and I thoroughly enjoyed our heavily subsidised dinner experience. After our 3 course dinner, we returned to our youth when we attended a jazz night at Kings College with all the privileged undergraduates - we felt about 100 years old although again made the most of ... read more

We’re back! We arrived back in London about midday. It is so cold! I knew it would be chilly but it seems like a very nasty shock. Needless to say Heathrow was the worst airport we visited. It took an absolute age to get our bags back which was not helped by the fact the luggage belt stopped for 10 minutes when only half the bags were out. All this delay meant we missed the coach by 5 minutes. After a very chilly wait of nearly an hour we finally got the coach. Half way through the journey they made us all swap coaches including all the people that got on 30 seconds earlier! We finally made it back to the Park and Ride in Trumpington where my parents were waiting for us. It was nice ... read more

Hi! I've been in Cambridge for almost three weeks now. It has been amazing and I've loved it so far. The city is a great size and I can walk almost everywhere I need to go. (It's a 2.5 mile walk to the train station which isn't very fun but good exercise I guess). I have traveled every weekend so far. The first weekend I spent in London and saw a lot of the major attractions including the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, and the British Museum. The second weekend I went back to London for a day and then went to York. I've been traveling with two of my roommates (both named Amanda) and another girl in our house, Liz. Four has seemed to be a good number to travel with. ... read more

Just in case I have not bored you with the details in person I thought I should write down where we are actually going. We have bought a Great Escapade round-the-world ticket. We are allowed to travel up to 29,000 miles so decided to get our monies worth and chose a route that was over 28,000 miles! The flights are London - Singapore, Singapore - Bangkok, Hanoi - Christchurch (via Singapore), Auckland - Fiji, Fiji - Rarotonga, Rarotonga - LA, LA - London. All of this for £924 plus tax - bargain! We have got a couple of days in Singapore to start with. This time we have decided to pay more for accommodation hopefully this will translate into proper air conditioning and no bed bugs unlike last time! After that it is off to Bangkok ... read more

Welcome to my travel blog! I am going to try and keep this up when I am away so you can all read about what I am up to. Hopefully I will be able to download some pictures too. There is now only 3 months and 1 day to go before we leave (not that I'm counting!) and I am getting really excited. I know the summer is going to drag but at least when everyone is depressed in November we will be on our way. Keep buying stuff to take with me which means that my rucksac is bound to be full before I even start. (Did I learn nothing from Australia?)... read more

With our passports at the Swedish embassy and vacations that we have to use up, last Saturday was ‘be an English tourist’ day. The options were many - Marlow, Oxford, Bath, York but we zeroed in on Cambridge. Often regarded as one of the most beautiful universities in the world, with an interesting history to boot, we took the train from Kings Cross (a la Harry Potter) down to Cambridge. London is well connected to Cambridge with trains from Kings Cross as well as Liverpool Street. The fast train will get you there in 45 minutes and the normal one in 90. A cheap day return ticket will cost £17. For train timings refer to http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/planmyjourney/time_table/journey_requirements.asp?&T2ID=3052_2005725173028. From the Cambridge railway station you can either hire a bike or hop onto the Sightseeing tour bus (£8 a ... read more

This blog I'm afraid will be a bit of a mixed bag, as it is a bit reliant on being able to download camera pics. After leaving the Osaka area, we flew to Tokoyo and stayed in the central bussiness area. We visited Tokoyo Tower, Imperial Palace, Toyota display centre, the Giza area (major department store shopping area) and Electric City. Didn't realise there was so much variety in computers, MP3s, Ipods, toasters and toilet seats!!!:) Yes the Japs have auto toilet seats that do almost everything for you, including wiping your bum. The best part of Tokoyo of course was catching up with Maimai and Aki (you remember cute little Maimai, she was our first exchange student) We went out to dinner at Shinigawa the night before we left Japan. Aki is still at uni ... read more
