Arrived in Zurich ok and went to the airport. unfortunately i was three hours early for Bradley's plane so i had to buy a book and chill somewhere. there wasn't a plane viewing area which was really disappointing. Brad arrived, we ate and decided that we really, really liked Switzerland so we would stay and explore this fantastic little country a little further. so: train ticket (check), Money (check), accommodation (ch...uh oh). a quick 30 minutes internet fixed that problem and we were again on the train to Bern. Bern: now this really is a fantastic city. i take my hat off to the town planners because it is the only city in Europe that i have found myself lost in. even Vienna at 3 am was easier ot navigate! the funny thing is that Bern ... read more

My legs are sore/tired from hiking and my nose is pink from all the sun, but yesterday was a great day! Irena, Suzanne, and I spent the day in the Alps - well the smaller mountains of the Alps that are surrounded by the larger ones. The gods of travel must have been on our side. Our plans for transportation, trains and buses, was very uncertain, but upon arriving in Thun (by train) we found the last bus up the mountains in our needed direction for the day. and it was leaving in 3 minutes! We rode higher and higher on seemingly impossibly narrow roads for our bus to handle. But we still made it to the end of the line all in one piece - the last stop was acutally a retirement center. The start ... read more

6-26-07 I got up at 6:30 so I would have plenty of time to get to the train station for my 15 € ride to Bern, Switzerland from here in Barcelona, which left at 8:45. Everything went very smoothly and I arrived at the train station with about an hour to spare. I decided to go for breakfast and as expected no egg breakfasts anywhere to be found. Consequently, I walked around looking for a grocery store. I found one and almost bought something I thought was milk but the person told me in broken English that it wasn’t. This was not a normal grocery store as they had some fresh fish and large containers of sauces, seasonings and stuff like that. They had no milk only fruit juice so I bought a couple juice boxes ... read more

Leah and I didn’t think Bern would have that much to offer, but we both fell in love with it instantly! We were so intrigued by our bus journey to our hostel, we just wanted to get out and explore this beautiful and quaint city! Our hostel was located just beside the River Aare - what a way to enter the old city! The aqua river was lined with large trees and old Swiss houses, and lead us to the cobbled-stoned streets of central Bern. Leah and I felt like we really had gone back in time, as if nothing had changed here in over 100 years. Large grand flags lined the main street and we soon came across the Zytglogge, the clocktower from 1530 which was once a city gate - we even managed to ... read more

up at 6:50 out of the hostel and trek to the station by 7:45 to catch the 8:02 train to brussels. 3 countries 12 hours on a train. what a bitch. our train to brussels was packed. our train from brussels to paris was packed. 2 hours in france and i already dont like the french. they were rude and smelly. we could not book our TGV ride to switzerland from france in belgium so we had to do it when we got to france. guess what, train is overbooked so you pay your fee and get on in hope of a seat. we found one, the jump seats (square pullouts) inbetween carriages. none of the frogs admitted to speaking english so we couldnt ask if there were seats further down. thankfully some people got off ... read more

Switzerland The drive to Bern was quite cool, a lot of tunnels so not that much uphill haha lucky van lol. It was quite a quick drive only about and our and a bit. Arriving in Bern I found so many unsecured networks I could almost choose where to park lol. So I settled down for a little while and caught up with my emails and put an add up trying to find another travel partner. After that I Txt the CouchSurfers I was staying with headed off in there direction, sadly I had entered the wrong address somehow and ended up outside Bern and in farm country so after admiring the view and waiting for some cows to be lead from one field to another I was off on my way to the other ... read more
