Monday 5th September Bassegoda campground to Camping Maçanet de Cabrenys 19km 7:40-13:10, with a few short stops and 40mins at La Trilla top Waking up early we did our usual morning routine at an average pace and found a bench by the bar to have breaky and Paul’s coffee. It was then we realised that we actually had a day yesterday with no storms! Not one! However, it was then that we also realised we had itchy feet and legs… insect bites! Argh. Still, getting going, we walked through a silent local town as the sun rose before starting the days climb. Surprisingly technical to start, with large flat rocks to step on and over, trying not to slip, but it soon returned to the more regular rocky and rooty tracks winding up through woodland. Having ... read more

Friday 2nd September Setcases to wild camp just past Beget 24km 8am-7pm with lots of short breaks and 30mins at top of col, 15mins in old abandoned hut, 90mins in Beget. Having enjoyed a very chilled rest day, spent eating and napping for my birthday, we were feeling refreshed and ready to get up and over the next high point before yet another forecasted afternoon storm. The climb up was through woodland and an enjoyable steady zigzag path over a rocky dry river gully. Hearing and spotting several men ahead in the woods, we eventually passed them and stopped for a brief broken Spanish conversation about mushrooms; apparently it’s mushroom season (we have seen many guys in the woods over the last few days) and a very popular thing for local men to go mushroom picking ... read more

Monday 29th August Wild camp near Coll Marcer to Camping Can Fosses 19km 7:45-14:45 with a few short breaks, 40mins in woodland descent before Dorria and 20mins on ridge section before Planoles A pretty bad sleep was met with a pretty slow morning. It also started with more climbing, as usual, so we felt extra slow. By the time we reached the col we had woken and warmed up though, and enjoyed nice views of the town as the sun also warmed up. There were also old border stones which was fun to step in and out of France from. What there was not so much today, was good waymarkers. They had slowly become less frequent since returning back into Spain, but today we really noticed how bad they had become; particularly after Coll de la ... read more

Friday 26th August Encamp to wild camp near Cabana dels Esparvers 20km 7am-5pm with lots of short breaks, 30mins at bothy refugio de Fortverd, 30mins at bothy refugio Riu dels Orris and 60mins at Refugio de L’Illa So today we made it out of Encamp! Whoohoooo! A steep in parts but enjoyable climb up out the town and back into the forest, led us all the way to a dam, which is obviously accessible and popular for the locals as even though it was early, there were plenty of runners and dog walkers about. With a weirdly familiar feeling, it was a little more like the local areas we’d get at home which was nice. Having continued the climb along easy rocky paths, we reached the top col and opted for the recommended higher route, along ... read more

It's been over 10 years since I did a grand motorhome tour, the last time was with my 2 sons (they are now both in their twenties), so this time it’s with my partner Melanie, we’ve done a lot of short trips together in the new van over the past 3 years but we are now aiming to do some proper trips. With the van packed up it’s back on the road and the start of a hopefully a lot of new adventures. We set off on a cold January afternoon and headed south for Newhaven port to catch the ferry to France, we camped overnight in a car park next to the port with other vans waiting for the early morning ferry. The Newhaven to Dieppe ferry takes 4 hours (appx £100 for a motorhome ... read more

Well the winds did drop and sun came back out and we cheered up as we drove the fairly short drive along the Mediterranean highway to Camping Cabapino. This campsite is always busy in the winter months and when we got there we were quite lucky to get a pitch for 7 days, many people book this place up for the winter as it’s a nice campsite and very well located for all of the main resorts and towns on the Costa del Sol. We planned to take the 7 days to visit a much as possible in the area so the first trip was to Malaga, we jumped on the bus outside of the campsite, the route takes you by the many resorts that are familiar to us Brits, Fuengirola, Torremolinos, Benalmedina, Mijas Costa and ... read more

It was now March 2022, we drove north out of Almeria, up through the Sierra Cabrera on the A7 and through very varied landscapes, we drove through the town of Lorca with it’s massive medieval castle on the hill and headed towards Mazarron. Just outside Mazarron is a small seaside resort called Isla Plana and the campsite Los Madrilles. The reviews of the site said it was popular and usually busy in the winter months due to it’s heated indoor and outdoor pools, but we got a pitch and settled in. We had a quiet morning then caught the bus from outside the campsite into Cartagena. This is a very historic place too, we visited the Alcazaba, the roman theatre, Colosseum and the castle, all free of charge and well worth a visit to a another ... read more

Sunday 21st August Sick day in Arinsal 0km Well after a restless night, it was clear from Paul that we were not going anywhere today. Booking in for another night at this hotel, we returned to sleep some more, as well as watching some bad Spanish day time Tv. We did make it out briefly together for a small lunch of coffee and toast but soon after eating, Paul needed to get back to the hotel room. I had another mini explore and checked out the other supermarket this time before also returning to the hotel to chill. Feeling a bit better, we ventured out for dinner, returning to the original bar we went to when we arrived yesterday for their veggie menu. Welcomed back by the guy, we enjoyed tasty onion rings, garlic bread and ... read more

Thursday 18th August Tavascan to Areu: camping pica d’estats 16km 8-14:30 with a few small breaks and 20mins lunch just after the top col After topping up at the hotel’s breakfast we were back on the trail as the church bell chimed 8, and immediately began to climb. Twisting up through woodland we followed the rocky and rooty path as it steepened and levelled occasionally, as it thinned and widened, as it changed between forest track to forest road to boggy mud, as it tracked high across ridges, passed few streams, and introduced short moments of safety ropes again, as it past the small hamlet with orange lights we had spotted on the hillside the other night on the col, and as it eventually, after 4hours of climbing, opened up to a large flat grassy col. ... read more

Sunday 14th August Espot Camping Solau to La Guingueta d’Àneu: Nou Camping 10km 8-11:30am with few short breaks and 20min break before the decline So it turns out Espot is a great little place to be! With the local bakery open at 7:30am, we decided to copy the locals and enjoy a tasty coffee and fresh pastry for breaky sat in the street. We also bought a fresh baguette ready for later, (along with some olive and artichoke spread thanks to the helpful shop owner who tried his best to find something for us veggies as he had no humous) and also knew today was a short and simple walk, so we were feeling goooooood!
