Hi Everyone, The walk continues... Cizur Menor to Villamayor Monjardin. This has taken three days and is about 52km. I haven´t my guide book with me so i can´t be exact. The title is inspired by today´s little event just outside of the city of Estella. There is a winery called Bodegas Irache which kindly has a fountain for Pilgrims. Now most of the fountains I pass are of historic significance, often dating back to the 12th or 13th centuries or earlier. They are truly welcome as it means I don´t have to carry too much water. But this fountain was even more welcome as it dispensed red wine to thirsty walkers. And good red wine it was too. I was expecting Chateau Cardboard at its worst but this was really good. Friends First of all, I acknowledge that I am not a natural born blogger. Second, I assumed that folks knew what the heck the Camino de Santiago was all about. Well, for times sake, I must suggest you google it! Jamie (Steve´s niece) and I started our 500 mile walk 6 days ago. We made the first hurdle over the Pyrenees. It is beautiful country and the people along the path and in the refugios are incredible. So much to say with a line of people waiting for the internet - so I close quickly. We are safe, cold and tired - wondering what challenges tomorrow will bring. Counting blisters is so very boring. To beautiful Lindsey - Happy belated Mother´s Day. Marshall, love you sunshine, I lost your email! Steve - thank you for feeding ... read more

HI Everyone This may be quite short as I only have 20 mins on the computer and it´s taken me 10 mins to work out the keyboard. Thankfully I have a lovely young lass Vanja from Slovenia who is at the next computer and has helped me. The walk so far has been amazingly scenic. Yes I´m very stiff and sore but after a good night¨s sleep I can hit the road again. So far no blisters for those of you who are counting. I do look pretty funny when I get up to walk if I´ve been sitting too long. But generally the training has paid off - thanks Tim at Inform health - that glute work I kept complaining about has worked. To the beginning - my plane and train connections all went well ... read more

I kinda promise this will be a quick entry (well as much as I can write in 14 minutes) Arrived in St Jean Pied-de-Port along with about 150 other pilgrims who all swarmed the pilgrim office, although everyone got beds! They stamp your credential (like a passport) along the way to prove that you have been walking the entire time. Then in Santiago they give you a Compostela which, if you´re Catholic, I think means that you get all of your sins forgiven. I met 3 Camino dudes (also walking), Hans (German, 67)- who had just handed over the reins of his multi-national wood chipping company to his son, Sergio (Italian, 62) who drove to Santiago and decided to walk a couple of years ago and Helmut (Danish, 69 - and yes my 11 year old ... read more

I´m not sure the experience gets any more Spanish than this! Yesterday I spent the day in Pamplona for Fiestas de San Fermin. We made it there a little too late (9am) so we missed the actual bulls running through the streets. But the guy I live with went last weekend and he said there´s so many people that you can´t actually see it, you had to watch it on big tv screens. Plus it only lasts like 2 seconds when they run by, so my heart was broken about missing it. But we were able to see some other really cool and not so cool but cultural stuff. We went to what they called "cowboy acrobatics show", which was really people running around with what I think were really young bulls cause they weren´t too ... read more

No, I didn’t run with the bulls, though I would consider it at a future, crazier date. I had to wake up at 4 am this morning to be at the bus by 5. After some confusion over whether the phone was ringing or my alarm was going off (it happened to be the latter; after several minutes of being confused as to why the phone wouldn’t stop ringing when I picked it up, I realized my mistake) I got ready an boarded the bus for the 2 hour drive to Pamplona. Once in Pamplona we made our way directly to the corral where the Bulls end up after the run (I didn’t actually see the run itself ... read more

Before we get to Brad´s dangerous encounter with the bulls...we feel the need to briefly mention Bilbao. What a gorgeous city. We just wish that we had more than a few hours late at night to experience all that it has to offer. If we make it back to Spain we will add it to our list of must visit cities. Ok now on with the blog... so maybe Brad did not have a dangerous encounter with the bulls, but it sounded good. We reached Pamplona on the morning of the ninth. We found our hotel north of the city, and were able to check in early. Bag-free, we headed into the city and found the plaça de toros. The plaça serves two primary purposes. First, it is the place where the bulls run during ... read more

Synopsis: 22 hour bus ride London-Pamplona, 4 days of booze, one big-arse campsite with a great pool, millions of crazy Spaniards, 1000's of crazy travellers, 6 bulls, one road, and one bloody big and rammed bull-ring. Detailed description: So i decided to hit up one of the biggest festivals on the European calender, that being the San Fermin festival (otherwise known as the Running of the Bulls) in Pamplona, Spain. The trip involved a 22 hour bus ride down to Pamplona from London, 3 nights camping, and then a 22 hour bus ride back. Now that might sound like a lot of travel for not much time, but i can tell you now that it was worth every second of it! The bus ride was wild - a big drinking session, with shots, beer bongs, the ... read more
