So as many of you know, I'm finally back in Europe, and actually have been since Oct. 27, 2008...its only taken me 3 months to get my butt in gear and finally start up my blog again. Better late than never though I say! However, with all that's happened in the past couple months, I'm left wondering where to even begin! I guess first of all, I'm living in Wageningen. A little city known for its international university and research centre. I'm here on an AIESEC traineeship for one year and am working for a company called SHR (Stichting Hout Research)....its a wood research company. To be honest, its not my dream job, but realistically, do most people find their calling on an internship? Its still a lot of little odds and ends jobs that I've ... read more

Europe » Greece » Attica » Athens September 13th 2007

After travelling for 24 hours I finally made it to Athens and thought, man this place better be worth it. But it didn't disappoint. I heard some people saying they hated it, but I totally disagree. I think its awesome how they have all these old ruins and then they just build the rest of the city around it. Made me want to brush up on my Greek mythology, i really liked that elective. So my first full day consisted of visiting the famous Acropolis. Even though its under construction I was still blown away. It alone was worth the trip. You think about how it was built so long ago and how the people hauled these massive pieces of marble up to the top of the hill with nothing but pure man power and wow! ... read more

So I'm horribly behind in this blog. SOrry to all you dedicated fans who are disappointed when they check and nothing new is there. Its much the same with the journal I'm trying to keep. So I've decided just to highlight the key points of the rest of Spain, since to boot I wiped out on these marble stairs today in Athens and sprained my pinky. ITs nice and swollen and blue and makes you realize how often you use the letter a while typing....bloody hell!!!! So anyone wanting to know the full schoop on my awesome times will have to talk to me in person when I'm back in Canada. Plus there's at least a days worth of pics! SO after Palma there was Valencia. THere they have the chapel which is home to the ... read more

So how lucky am I? So what did you do for your 23rd birthday? Hmmm, I spent it travelling around one of Spain's islands and then went out for some drinks and dancing on the beach....yup, quite the life. Thanks to everyone who called and sent birthday wishes. I miss you all! Palma was beautiful. Lots of sun! Reminds me a lot of Cuba, just the beaches weren't quite as nice, but still nothing to complain about. I went on a mini boat cruise and got to see a gorgeous view of the cathedral. I took an excursion around the island on my b-day. The first half wasn't so impressive. I thought we were going to a pearl factory (to see how the make fake Mallorcan pearls that are supposed to be indistinguishable from real ones), ... read more

So I have officially finished my work placement. And I won't lie...it was slightly sad. Although I didn't really do much there all the time, I really loved the people. And on Thursday, since some people were working different shifts, they switched it so that everyone (except me) came in at 6am so that we could all be done at 2 and then they took me out to celebrate my bday. It was so nice, they paid for everything and bought me a card and a necklace. I will miss them so much! Then Friday was left for packing, and didn't I discover that I had left my camera at the factory! Eek! It was a mad dash back to get it and finish packing so I could go drop my bags off at Irune's (the ... read more

So this is my last week at work! Can you believe it went by so fast?!?!? But I guess what they say is true; time flies when you´re having fun. My friend Emerson from Brazil left yesterday, so there were a few tears shed yesterday...poor mom, I called her at home on her birthday just to cry to her....but not too much sympathy for me, I am in Spain afterall ;) And it turns out I´m extending my stay a little longer, thanks to some hard work on mom´s behalf and some birthday money cominhg my way! So the plan is to hit up what I can in Spain, stop in Portugal along my way back to London (I love it too much, I must go back!) before a few quick days in Switerland and Greece....or ... read more

First of all, thanks to all of you still reading this. I know its been a while since I updated this and then the server for the site went down or something. But the worst part is, all of my previous blogs were lost since they were written in the last 3 months :( So if for some reason anyone printed them or saved them, please keep them and let me know. Anyway here´s the message I had written earlier about our wonderful trip to London!!! Hey, finally an update from yours truly. I know its been awhile, but I guess the server I've been using has been down. But I'm being smart about it. I'm writing up the file now and I'll save it so all I have to do later is copy and paste ... read more

I´m not sure the experience gets any more Spanish than this! Yesterday I spent the day in Pamplona for Fiestas de San Fermin. We made it there a little too late (9am) so we missed the actual bulls running through the streets. But the guy I live with went last weekend and he said there´s so many people that you can´t actually see it, you had to watch it on big tv screens. Plus it only lasts like 2 seconds when they run by, so my heart was broken about missing it. But we were able to see some other really cool and not so cool but cultural stuff. We went to what they called "cowboy acrobatics show", which was really people running around with what I think were really young bulls cause they weren´t too ... read more

After not sleeping on the 7 hour bus ride to Barcelona, I was exhausted by the time we got there and was wondering if it was worth it...but after a couple of hours on Saturday the adrenaline kicked in and the travelling was well worth it. The weather there was perfect, well in the high 20s. We started the day by just walking around town. You can tell its so much more of a tourist attraction though then Bilbao because there´s way more people there who speak English, so I don´t feel as completely lost :) Speaking of English people, who have thunk I´d run into someone I lived with in first year on Eng Floor while travelling in Spain!?! i heard my name and turned around in a busy street in Barcelona and there stood ... read more

Ok, somebody pinch me! Is this actually for real? I´m living in Spain for the summer! Maybe it´ll lose its appeal by the end of the summer, but I still can´t get over it, no matter how many times I say it! I can´t believe its already been almost a week since I´ve been here. I was met at the airport. Here´s a trip for future travels, if you´re young and cute you can get through customs rather quickly if you don´t speak the language here ;) The guy just rolled his eyes at me and passed me through when I said "no hablo español". And then there was Alvaro to meet me at the airport with a sign that said "Megan". I´ve always wanted to do that...makes you feel kind of important :) So I´m ... read more
