hi guys, the morning after the last blog we walked most of the day in a full on electrical storm!ryan was like a pig in shit where as pippi was border line tears..but the rain bought us closer to other pilgrims about midday the rain slowed down and we pushed on through a city called logrono to navraette much to pippis disgust and that night we slept in the hostel garage, not ideal but thats the pilgrimage for ya...next day we had a short day to najera just 15km with the hope of catching up with the hendls spanish family aljandro and gema (not actually related) and by sheer luck spotted aljandro in the street in najera. He immediatly proceeded to take us on a pub crawl, packs and all, to try the la rioja wines, funniest ... read more

This story could be very long, but I am going to make it as brief as possible....... Some freinds and I met these cool people on the Camino about 2 or 3km from Templarios (the half way point) where we spent the night. the long and short of it all is that they met on the Camino 3 years ago got married and have 2 beautiful kids and live on the Camino itself. They are a delightful couple James is from England and Mariane is Irish. So they liked us because we talked for a long time with them and they ended up offering to set us up a secret alburgue! So we walked to the this pilgrim fountain about 2km from the town we were heading for and they met us there with tents, ... read more

Hola! Im here and have access to a computer again, so Im going to put up another update..... Im still in Spain, and still on El Camino. Im in a tiny town called Najera now, and tomorrow Im going to go to Santo Domingo to get a lucky cock feather, and possibly go on to Grañon, supoosedly it has the best Refugio, for atmosphere, on the whole Camino. This is according to one of my new dear freinds Matt, who is on his third Camino. I have met so many great people, but my main group of miscreant pilgrims, consists of 2 englishmen, a dane, an irishman, and myself. There are far more men than women here, and Germans are the largest single nationality. I have olny met 2 other Americans. I lost them days ... read more

So Salamanca farewelled us with pouring rain and freezing temperatures (about 5 degrees celsius). I (Jane) had a little bit of and interesting lunch at the bus station after deciding to try something different. Well, through the glass window in the bar, it definitely looked like a concoction involving oyster mushrooms and smelt great...I am sure that I had seen it in other bars. On closer inspection once back at the table, Adam said, "Jane, they looking suspiciously like an animal product"...."don't be silly Adam, they are mushrooms". Adam was right though, as he quite often is, and after taking a bite I realised that I was eating a porkers ears. Adam thought this was hilarious and spent the whole bus trip oinking at me. It put me off my food for at least 6 ... read more

Back at work(!) people would come to your office and confiscate your hardcore technical books if you were deemed to be doing something sufficiently uncool (ie, consistently writing userland code or java applications or working on docs and the likes). Something similar should be done to travelers who go soft: take away our shoes or passport or backpacks or something. From the detention centers in Yemen our story leaps to France and Spain, those exotic dangerous countries that one only reads of in books but rarely dares to visit in person. For the sake of completeness, I'll mention that I returned to Turkey overland via Oman, UAE, and Iran (without any run-ins with the law!), then spent 3 months kicking it in Istanbul and trying to make my extended presence useful. Then, as I was making ... read more
