Day 40: Melide to Santa Irene Journal Entry-------------------- Thursday May 10th, 2012 Today was one of the best days I've had on the Camino. Just as I had stopped with a lady named Barbara from New Mexico, USA at a stand along the way, I was thinking about when I would see my four new Spanish friends again. Just then I heard my name and turned to see no other but Demi, Antonio, JuanJo and Angel. I was instantly estatic! For the rest of the long day I walked with them; only speaking Spanish, the best that I could, teaching them silly English words and of course laughing a lot. I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas, and a happy New Year! I just got back from an amazing adventure; I went with 5 girls who are also in the program, on a European Vacation. We started in Paris on Christmas Eve, and were there for 5 nights. It really is as amazing as everyone talks about. We were able to visit most of the famous sites: the Eiffel tower, arc de triumphe, the louvre, the sacre-ceur. We also took a day trip to Versailles...wow! We ate lots of crepes, got used to riding the metro, went to a christmas market, and spoke a little french! By far, my favorite city visited on this trip. Happy Halloween Everybody!! To be honest (which I promised to do), I really haven’t been looking forward to writing this blog; mostly because I have to be honest. I didn’t complete my Camino, and while it’s too bad that I didn’t do it, I’m alright with it. The bottom line is, my parents were worried, really worried. I know when you have “worried” parents and you brush it off and say, “My parents always worry, that's just what parents do” and when you step back for a minute, look at the situation and say, “my parents are worried for a reason.” My parents were worried for a reason. Funny thing about time, sometimes it seems to move so slow, but before you know it a month has past by already! So far this month, I have been trying to acclamate, to the culture, food, weather, people, etc. I am finally used to my school schedule and am really enjoying my time there. This week I taught lessons about Halloween, which was so much fun. I made a bulletin board display at the entrance of the school, to get everyone in the Holiday spirit, and I even dressed up today as a witch! I finally got a little pumpkin, he's hanging out in our living room. I'm gonna put up some decorations too! My house is finally starting to feel like home, we don't have much, but its comfortable. I’ve often thought, particularly while walking the Camino de Santiago in 2009, that Spain would be the place where I’d settle, at least for a good few years, if not forever. Therefore I’d been putting off moving to Spain for as long as possible because I thought I should get other ambitions out of the way first, such as living and working in Latin America, Eastern Europe and Asia, and travelling around Africa. Seeing as all of those things had been achieved, I started applying for work in Spain. The north of Spain appealed the most.
