So after now of living in Spain for a month, you'd think i'd get adjusted to the heat or the fact that its still 24 degrees outside and thats not even with the sun out. Nope!! Just the other day we took my host family's sail boat out on the water. It was amazing. If you didn't know Santander is the coast for the Bay of Biscay and the Cantabrian Sea. So in the Bay there is a beautiful, white, silky smooth sand bar/beach with a small restaurant on it too. Only people with boats have access to this beach, therefore its a lot less crowded on hot days. We took the boat to this beach and anchored. Did i mention how this was a Tuesday. Now if i was ever to boast about one the ... read more

Hola a todos!! I've now been in Santander for almost 4 weeks and things have been going absolutely great! Until about a week and a half ago when I moved into an apartment I didn't have much internet access so now I can finally take the time for blog updates. Living in Santander is such a HUGE change from Guardo last year and I'm taking full advantage of it. I'm already playing on an ultimate frisbee team here and I've enrolled in an Italian class at the Official Language School which begins next week. There are Official Language schools in cities all over Spain where it's possible to take courses in English, German, French, Italian, and Portuguese. I had to apply to take the course outside of the regular registration period and I had a really ... read more

September 15th So today was just a typical day, got the kids ready, took them to school, and picked them back up again. It was a beautiful day, so we decided to go to one of the many beaches in Santander. We end up at the Playa del Bikini on the Magdalena Peninsula, home to the English-style Magdalena Royal Palace. The Magdalena Peninsula is a 69 acre peninsula located near the entrance to the Bay of Santander in the city of Santander, Cantabria along the north coast of Spain. At the entrance of the bay of Santander, there is a small peninsula that is called La Magdalena. It has a beach and a park that is opened to the public, and it is very popular during summer. In the middle of the peninsula is a hill ... read more

Santander Santander, the capital of Spain's Cantabria region in Northern Spain, is a beauty. This beautiful Spanish town provides a great base for touring the highest points of Europe. The city's location, sandwiched between the mountains and the sea, forced it to develop in a peculiarly elongated manner along the northern rim of the bay which opens out onto the Cantabrian Sea. There are two distinct sections to the city of Santander- the busy commercial centre where you can find the majority of shops, historic buildings and tourist attractions and the beach resort of El Sardinero which is home to the city's classiest suburbs, the former royal palace and the casino. (in which i now currently reside within a 3 minute walk of the casino and a 10 minute walk from the royal palace.) Unfortunately, due ... read more

Geo: 43.461, -3.80793A cool, crisp morning ... the peaceful sound of birds singing awakened me from my deep slumber ... I love the melodic song of birds chirping ... except when it's f*cking 6:30 AM!!!! But at approximately 6:31 AM, the sounds were silenced ... because that's when the earplugs went in. My favourite part of staying at Pension Luisito is chatting with Julia and practicing my Spanish; I love the fact that Julia isn't afraid to correct my grammar. How else can I improve and eventually find that Spanish wife? But unfortunately, this can sometimes make for some pretty drawn-out conversations in the morning, since my brain has yet to fully awaken and the Spanish mistakes are a plenty. The first order of the day was breakfast at Expressate, a place I really wanted to ... read more

Geo: 43.461, -3.80793Too much time in Logrono ... I would've loved to catch a morning bus to Santander, which is one of my favourite places in Spain, because that would've given me some beach time there today. But on weekdays there is only a 16:30 bus that arrives at 19:45 - BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Of course, Logrono isn't the worst place to waste a few hours away - after all, is any place in Spain bad for just hanging out? A bit of coffee, a bit of lunch, a bit of Rioja, lots of time chilling on Logrono's pedestrian streets ... come to think of it, it was quite the pleasant morning and afternoon!Tried visiting Franco Espanolas Bodega, not so much for wine tasting, but because I harboured a hope that with a name like that, it would ... read more

Hola a todos, Last weekend I visited Santander, the capital city of the region of Cantabria, located on the northern coast of Spain. For the 2010-11 school year I will be spending another year in Spain working as an assistant English teacher, only this time in Cantabria. I've not yet received my specific school placement for next year but I'm hoping to live in Santander because it's a lively city in a beautiful area on the coast. Cantabria as a region is small enough that most of the people in my program are able to live in the city, regardless of where they are teaching. I wanted to know more about the program in Cantabria and was able to get in touch with a girl in my program named Alissa who is living in the city ... read more

Well Andorra, I like you, but now it's time for a 4 month affair with Santander, Berlin, Vienna, and Chicagoland. That being said, yesterday we began our journey to Santander, in Spain's region of Cantabria on the northern coast. This part of Spain is known as being "green" due to its wet climate and therefore lush vegetation. To be honest it is extremely reminiscent of Newport - lots of money, lots of beautiful homes and buildings, and lots of old people. Though I have been here once in 2006 while studying abroad in Spain, I honestly remember almost nothing and am very much looking forward to a few days on the coast. Naturally, since I am traveling, we had to be met with trauma. The first of said traumas was the 1.5 hour bus delay thanks ... read more

Today marks a week that I have been in Bezana/Santander staying with our old friends Nisio and Pili. I feels like two days. This was the first time in almost three months that I've seen someone familiar - before now everyone were new acquaintances. It is so relaxing to be here. I loved the farm work, but it has been nice to have a break where I don't have to work every day. For almost this whole week the weather has been incredible (although totally rare for December in Northern Spain) - I went swimming twice in the ocean. The sea was chaotic but I had a blast body-surfing. I went on a 42K bike excursion with Jesus and Ana (those pictures are still on my camera so you'll have to wait) and yesterday we went ... read more
