Our Fred Olsen cruise ship Balmoral docked in Santa Cruz de La Palma, the capital of La Palma. The Island has a rugged, forested terrain with volcanoes. Santa Cruz is a port town with narrow cobbled streets and houses with wooden balconies. We had a good walk with Lorna and Kevin to Los Cancajos along the coast towards the airport. later in the day we had a stroll around Santa Cruz and some early evening drinks. Next day we arrive in Tenerife the largest of Spain's Canary Islands. It is dominated by Mt.Teide a dormant volcano that is Spain's tallest peak. We put on our warmest clothing for our visit to Mt. Teide. A good job too because it is quite cold on top with a strong cool wind. The cable car queue is long at ... read more

If you live in Europe and you fancy a cheeky bit of winter sun, without going long-haul, then the Canary Islands are an obvious choice. Many would give their right arm for a trip to Tenerife; Horatio Nelson* certainly gave his! Cue the guffaws from the historians… Recently flight prices have gone up so much such that a week in the Red Sea costs about the same price as the Canaries, so we have been to Egypt the last two years. This year cheap flights were back on the menu, so off we went. The week cost us £400 excluding spending money; spank me. There are seven main islands and I’ve been to Tenerife, Fuerteventura, and La Gomera once each but about five times to Lanzarote. What draws me back I hear you ask? Well, ... read more

Our flight today is not until later in the afternoon, so we had a relaxing morning in the hotel and another great breakfast provided by them. We enjoyed our lounge experience so much when we flew from London Gatwick to Dubai that we have booked again for today. Not sure if it is the difference in time we were there, but we found the food selection to be very very limited. (Aspire) It is a shame because we enjoyed the selection last time. Theresa did get to have a couple of nice glasses of wine though. We are going to try the Aspire Lounge at London Gatwick just one more time. Our flight home with Easyjet was lovely and uneventful and we arrived back to Tenerife about our scheduled time of around 9.00pm. We have a ... read more

Birthday weekend in the mountains for Hayden. We rented a cabin on Mountain Negro. About a 30min drive into the center of the island. After some road closures and a nail-biting turn around on a very steep mountain hillside, we finally made it to Teror for lunch. A quaint little city with tons of character ..pretty much every city on the island. We had a snack at one of the restaurants and some Pappas arrugadas (Canarian potatoes) before taking a tour of the town and looking for some groceries for the weekend. We found a great little waffle shop our way out that we decided to celebrate with candles and all for Hayden, as we were not able to find the groceries we had hoped to find for his birthday dessert and breakfast. Back on the ... read more

07 mars 2019 : La Gomera.

It has been a while since my last post, SORRY, I will do my best to remember our journey since last. Another week just filled with work, sun and play. My coworking space is great, Rafael (the owner) has been very helpful and given me a space in the office area with him (I think he likes to have company). He has 2 kids, 15 & 18 (the oldest is in London at College) He has tried to help me find things for Sarah to do. Not much luck, but the fact he tried was so nice. He knows a lot of English and likes to speak to me in English. I try to speak in Spanish, but usually, make a ton of mistakes. He would like to come to Canada some day, but needs to ... read more
