We had a pleasant 6 hour trip here on the train from Madrid. I say pleasant because we were the only ones in the train car for most of the journey and we didn´t have the french women to contend with this time! This city is so beautiful...I caould easily see spending a week here. We had only planned on staying overnight, but by the time we got to the hostel and checked into our incredible room we decided to stay two days and cut down our time in Barcelona. We´re both tired of big cities and this one is small enough that we can walk everywhere. We´re in the Atico the attic, it has a loft, it´s own balcony and looks out over the rooftops of this part of the city with tiny tiny winding ... read more

Hola Mi familia y amigos Andalucia is amazing we went to Seville and Granada what a blessing to get to see these beautiful places! Seville was a great city full of life and history with a splash of modern tiendas (stores) and great fun! We went to Cathedrals of course and how grand they were. There were also horse and buggy rides around the city if you wanted. Our hotel was awesome so very nice, clean, and roomy. We ate the best icecream but hey where in Spain to you get anything but the best ice cream. In Granada we went to a Flamenco Dance show and that was so passionate and intense its hard to explain. The spanish surely are artists when it comes to their dancing and they give their all. The song, music ... read more

This time in Spain has been tremendous, scary, lonely, and frustrating. I have loved all of it, even the worst parts, a real growing experience. The best parts have been the new friends I have met here in Spain. I´m part of a community of couchsurfers all connected through couchsufing.com. I have spent time in Rota, on the Bay of Cadith with Navy guys based there, thanks Kevin and Jamie. I have recently spent a few days with an expat U.K. couple, near Nerja, who are living out there retirement in Spain, Brian and Jane. The people that I have met have provided me with a wealth of information that I would have never asked to begin with. These are the locals who are able to guide your trip to make it more economical in both ... read more

Barcelona was great. But we had to get back to Madrid because guess what? I got a visitor from home. Galaxya came to visit me. For those of you who know her, pray for me. For those of you who do not, lets just say she is a handful. Plus we had to get to Madrid becuase Katie had a flight back to the U.K. Good thing about Galaxya coming over, is that she rented a car and now I have more liberties of mobility at my disposal. Bad thing about her visit. Everything else. Anyways, we met an Australian couple and they decided to join us in our little road trip. Fabian and Niky. A couple of crazy people like myself. We got along just fine. Those crazy Ozzies just keep on pop'n up everywhere ... read more

After a bus ride from Cordoba, I arrived in Algeciras to find what I had expected but not what I had hoped for. It is a port town with nothing much else to see or do. As a result, my 2 day stay consisted of a day trip to Gibraltar and some walking, emailing and telephoning in Algeciras. Gibraltar was strange. An eclectic mix of UK and Spain. The rock was large, the gondala expensive, the barbary apes way too tame seeing as I had to dislodge one off my backpack! but I did enjoy walking the length of the place and seeing the lighthouse and mosque at the eastern end.... read more

The first time we stumbled upon Cabo de Gata Natural Park online, all we saw were limited pictures; we hadn't heard anything about the place or knew anyone who had heard of it, let alone gone there. We're here to tell you, if you live in Spain or plan on visiting and haven't gone to this park...GO!!!! This place is great! The park is located in Andalucia in the province of Almeria, about a 4 hour drive from where we were. Here's some info pulled from www.andalucia.com : "Covering 45,663ha in the southeastern corner of Spain, Cabo de Gata-Níjar is Andalucia's largest coastal protected area, a wild and isolated landscape with some of Europe's most original geological features. The eponymous mountain range is Spain's largest volcanic rock formation with sharp peaks and crags in ochre-hues. ... read more

Hi All- I´m just getting into a routine so far. It has almost been my first week here in Spain. I have downloaded my photos onto kodak.com for those who are in my circle. I promise to post here soon. Finding a room for a single traveler is difficult. Either you can stay in a hostel (alburgue juvenil), which I did for one night. They were full for the rest of the time, so if you go during the summer book ahead. I then walked from pension to pension which is listed as a hostel (inexpensive hotel) and found one for the going rate, score=own bathroom, cool! I have luck with CouchSurfing.com for my other cities that I will be traveling to, but no luck in Sevilla. Pobresita! Let me give you a run down thus ... read more

Well, after a long overnight bus trip from Porto to Madrid (and a half day in Madrid best left unmentioned apart from a visit to the Prado Museum) and then a bus to Granada, I finally made it to the south of Spain. Let me just say that my experience with ´turismos´ (tourist offices) over the last week has left a lot to be desired. I really enjoyed Granada. I visited Jeronimos monastery, the cathedral and royal musuem, and, of course, the Alhambra. Apart from that, I walked the streets, enjoyed some great food, and caught up on some email etc. Once again, the photos from the Alhambra cannot do it justice, especially the interior shots. Hand held at such slow speeds, I cannot do well. After 3 nights in Grenada, I headed to Cordoba where ... read more

"No son Españoles!! Son hijos de puta!! No son Españoles!! Son hijos de puta!!" So went the chants at Hannigan and Sons Irish Pub in Granada, moments after a Sol Campbell header gave Arsenal a 1-0 lead over Barcelona in the Champions League finals. The chant-ERS, ecstatic that their fellow countrymen´s squad had fallen behind, were saying "They´re not Spaniards!! They´re sons of b*tches!!", which momentarily reminded me of my pickpocketer in Las Ramblas last year (#$%!). The chant actually refers to the fact that Catalunya (which Barcelona is part of) is constantly looking to secede from Spain and become an independent state (although it could just as easily apply to the fact that less than half of the players on the team are actually of Spanish descent). But I dig that about them, not so ... read more

Hey guys! I´m in Marbella now! I took a bus from Cordoba to here this AM and got in around 1230. I almost missed it because I slept through my alarm clock! This is probably because I was up late watching some Spanish rendition of ´Dancing with the Stars.´When the guy at the end won, all the other danceers ran over to him and were throwing him in the air! Haha! It was funny! Also last night, there was a jazz concert in the plaza where my hotel was. It was great! It was all American jazz and songs that I knew. I had my windows opened in my room and could hear it all! The bus ride here was beautiful! So much of Spain is so different! One second there are a ton of olive ... read more
