This was to be my first trip to Europe since 2016 and my first time to Spain. This was a surprise trip arranged by my boyfriend As usual, I was packed a week before the holiday - my partner packed the night before. The trip to the airport was unusually smooth sailing - so to speak. I stayed at my boyfriend's place the night before and we drove to Gatwick. As it was an early morning flight, we decided to get breakfast whilst waiting for our flight to be called. To my surprise, the airport was really quite busy for such an early time - I had never flown in the morning and so I was under the impression that there would not be that many people there. After a long wait - we got our ... read more

So, after a busy week of Semana Santa we headed south to the lovely coastal town of Nerja, renting a small room with a great ocean view. The weather in Spain so far has been colder and rainier than we expected, so we were glad to see some sun and 70 degree temps for our 2 days on the beach. Then it was on to Ronda and the start of a week touring the Pueblos Blancos or white villages. These are small towns, usually at the base or on top of rock structures, characterized by whitewashed homes. Established during medieval times, the old sections still consist of very narrow alleyways and steep walkways. They were painted white using lime keeping them cool in the summertime and prevented the moisture from the dampness. Walking around in them, ... read more

Wednesday, April 13, 2022 Cartagena, Spain Woke up rested this morning – finally. Only to have my back go into SPASM just after getting out of the shower. You know that feeling when every muscle in your back pulls you down all at once. SO UNCOMFORTABLE! That feeling that every breath is a struggle and moving is next to impossible. Oh, this is going to be an interesting day. RATS! SO with some effort and one of the thermal pads I had left from Naples, FL – we took on the day. First stop – a pharmacy to see what we can get to relax the muscles in my back. If possible the ULTIMATE relief will come from ROBAXIN – which one cannot get in the USA without a prescription, but can get in Canada over ... read more

Wednesday, April 6, 2022 Malaga, Spain Well, this morning we awoke to a partly sunny sky in beautiful Malaga. IT was still a bit chilly, but no rain, and very little wind – more of a breeze actually. Mother Nature & Poseidon must have come to an agreement to grant us a smooth ride. I’ll take it. Particularly after the last few days. We went back and forth about leaving the ship eventually decided neither of us was all THAT interested in returning to Malaga so soon. I mean, it was just last week after all. What we truly wanted to do, was not offered – and that is the Alhambra. We shall save it for another time. So not leaving the ship meant a while in our stateroom – watched a little TV and read ... read more

Wednesday, March 30, 2022 Malaga, Spain What a night last night. The seas were smooth as silk. We figured with the calm seas we’d sleep like babies. Nope. Christopher finally fell asleep about 2:30am, and I fell asleep around 3:45am. AND….we were awakened by the Cruise Director’s announcements regarding disembarkation and tours. I wanted to SCREAM – it wasn’t even 8am! I can’t get back to sleep once I’m awake. The various tours were going all over the place from The Alhambra to Granada. Well, we stayed in Malaga….so thank you VERY MUCH for getting us up and at ‘em so bloody early. We were kinda dragging all day long and this evening WILL be an early FULL night’s sleep (I may seek pharmaceutical assistance). So Malaga. Gorgeous Architecture. We had hoped to get to The ... read more

Europe » Spain » Andalusia » Ronda February 25th 2022

21st January 2022 - 21st February 2022 Well – it’s good to be back in Spain at last!! Due to Covid it’s been nearly two years since we had been here, so, because of my knee replacement Oct 21, I had a cleaner to clean the house before we arrived! It’s just so lovely to see the oranges on the trees, bougainvillea, the almond blossom and lots of spring flowers! You don’t realise how much you miss all the colour! Caught up with all the neighbours as well as Zizpa the 3-legged dog – who seemed to actually remember us! Usual round of catching up with friends, menu del dias ……and Chris went on a few walks (with a bit of persuasion!! ) that I was unable to do! We joined the FEW (Flat Earth Walkers) ... read more

Europe » Spain » Andalusia » Huelva February 18th 2022
