After a filling breakfast of omelet style pancakes I had the confusing and difficult task of asking Damien, the slightly senile manger of our hostel, if he could take us to Lessce Bled. 'You want to go to Lake Bled?" "No Lessce Bled..." "Lake Bled" "No Lake Bled, with the station." "The bus Station in Lake Bled?" "No LESSCE Bled, with the train station!" After maps and pointing games me and Stu finally set off for the capital of Croatia, Zagreb. We climbed abroad ad found a compartment with two lads from Wales. Joe and James were best friends trying to escape the real world after university ended. We compared stories of Bled, the place we enjoyed and the places to avoid. It was a nice journey and before we knew it we arrived at our ... read more

Käkikellokylät toisensa jälkeen alkoivat jo hieman kyllästyttää. Olikin siis aika suunnata eteenpäin Alpeilta. Ajattelin oikaista Balkanille Pojois-Italian kautta. Italian puolen Alpit olivatkin ihan eri näköiset; sahalaitaiset hiekkakivivuoret. Nyt Ljubljanassa Sloveniassa pitämässä sadetta. Huomenna kohti Kroatiaa ja Bosniaa.... read more

by anna (and david) June 10th-13th After hiring a car in Munich, we headed down the sensational autobahns of Germany, into and across Austria, to Slovenia. All along the way we were entertained by carloads full of Spanish, Russian and Greek supporters, with flags flying out the windows, heading for the Euro Cup games in different parts of Austria and Switzerland. In between, we enjoyed the beautiful, lush countryside of Bavaria and Austria. Almost as soon as we hit Slovenia, it was obvious we were somewhere less affluent, but no less beautiful. Our first stop was Bled, where we checked into a hotel that felt like something out of a novel set in the 1960s, and we definitely brought down the average age (although not by much as we were well and truly out numbered). The ... read more

Amazing!! Not only is Ljubljana gorgeous everywhere you look, but the countryside is too. We took the bus to Bled today and it may be my favorite place in the world! Beautiful, crystal clear lake with an island church in the middle and surrounded by the Julian Alps. Walked up to the clifftop castle and walked the 3.5 mile loop around the lake. Took a little side trip up to a huge moutain and were the only ones up here for the best views of the lake. Tough, uphill climb, but amazing! People were rafting in the Alps, paragliding, parachuting near there, etc. So much outdoor stuff to do. When we finished the loop (maybe 5 miles or so with the side trips and lots of uphill), Matt and Roger ate and relaxed, but I had ... read more

OK, this place is amazing! So far, it is my favorite stop. Great little old city below the castle and we are staying rigt in the middle. Climb up the castle and see the Alps in the distance. Thee is a little river running through town and all these cafes right along side of it. Every street looks lie a postcard. Can't believe so few pople have heard of it here, but chances are Americans will discover it soon enough more than they have already. Tomorrow we are off to the mountainside town of Bled with its picturesque views. Pretty exited to get out and see the countryside a bit. Anyway, may have found my retirement spot! ... read more

Hello from beautiful Aurora; last week we arrived home after an uneventful trip from Vienna. I like uneventful trips, especially on planes. We had a fun last few days in Europe let me tell you about them. We were traveling with the Atwood’s, Mark and MG. Luke’s parents. We drove south from Vienna and turned east at Graz and found ourselves driving through rolling hills not unlike we see in east Multnomah county heading towards the Cascade range. In fact the terrain is nearly the same. If Mt. Hood suddenly emerged behind the hills to the east we would be in Estacada. It’s very, very green and come to think of it if we substituted rock walls for grapes we would be in Ireland…beautiful. We found a nice Zimmer (hotel) on a hill overlooking all this ... read more

Dober Dan! (hello in slovenian) Well during the past nine days we arrived in London, spent two days there, then flew to Berlin where we spent another couple days exploring the city and tasting the local brews. On the outskirts of Berlin we picked up our camper van which is so awesome! Sleeps four but recommended for two hehe! It was brand spankin new when we got him, and is quite fancy! We appropriately named him Haans Von Volgosdorf. Hes done us well so far as we have been through Germany, Czech Republic, Austria and we are currently in Slovenia! The people have been sooo friendly and helpful through all of the places we have been to so far. Slovenia is beautiful as it is the start of the Adriatic sea. Its very neat cause we ... read more

Hi everyone! Welcome to my soon-to-be-travelblog about me wondering around the world. I figured this time I could make it public and at the same time not forget where I've been. (Plus it saves a lot of time on writing individual emails:D so sorry all friends, less updating this time...) In reality I don't have anything yet to add, 'cause I'm still at home in Ljubljana, frome where I'll start my journey: in 2 days I'll take the train to Vienna and then a flight to Lisboa!!! That would be Portugal, which means happiness everywhere. That's it for now. I just had to express my excitement somewhere :) Ave! t.... read more
