Pohodove prebratie, check out mame do 9/00. Je toho este riadna kopa, mami ani mimi hned z rana take tazke jedlo nechcu a davaju si len maslove rozky. Neni nad to zacat den vysmazanym rizkom, este pivo a bolo by to idealne. Sefovi davam 50€, ide do svojho dalsieho domu, ... read more

Meglepődve fedeztük fel egy Somoskővár kép közelében Vikidál Gyula, kedvenc énekesünk dedikációját a helyi bodega lambériáján. Az emlékmű koszorúját nemzeti színű szalaggal színesítettük.... read more

Hello everyone, Sorry we've been so slack at updating. We've been busy motoring around to try and get down South well ahead of the wedding so we can begin to slow down near Greece and enjoy the weather and unwinding after the hectic whistle stop tour. Czech Republic was beautiful. We really enjoyed the pretty spa town Karlovy Vary, were we swam in a thermal pool on top of the only ugly communist looking building in town, overlooking the valley, filled with beautiful georgian looking buildings, a bit like Bath but in colour! We tried the spa water, fizzy and mineraly and not at all like mucus as the guide book suggested! Prague was crazy busy, but well worth going to for a wander about. One of our highlights was climbing up to the castle to ... read more

Every year for children's day cities and villages do magical forest. It's sometimes a walk through a forest, sometimes it's a challenge course, sometimes it's a combination. Of course, you have magical creatures that meet you along the way. Janka and Risko went with us. Julia almost fell asleep on the drive there - we went to Kraliky which is a ski resort in the winter. But she didn't sleep, and I was glad because I needed her to be tired so she goes to bed at a normal time. Now I know that this really doesn't work. We get to the starting point and there are two clowns - apparently Julia is not fond of clowns and I have to carry her through the entrance. After that she was fine. We met characters from Mrazik, ... read more

Slovakians call their homecountry: "The land where the one eyed fox is playing guitar". Patrick, our cheery guide to the joys of skiing in Slovakia, got off to a good start when he promised that by the end of the day my two brothers and I would be the "carving gods of the Carpathians". The three of us are seasoned skiers, but technique is not always our strong point. The prospect of learning how to descend the slopes with Zeus-like panache appealed. We liked Patrick and we liked what he promised. Our master class in how to get the most out of carving skis came in Jasná, the biggest resort in Slovakia. With its 35 kilometres of marked pistes, Jasná caters for skiers of all abilities. And its wide blue and red runs are well suited ... read more

Since Julia was sick, the next day we spent just hanging around the house. Grandpa took her outside for a couple of hours and she made some friends, but coulent remember their names. She loved "piesok" - the sand - and kept talking about it all day. Her naps don't go like I would like and she didn't take one. I went to Hawaii pub with my brother and his friends. And I am starting to get sick :/ June 1st is the "MDD" which is the international day of children. I don't know where else they celebrate it, but I think maybe they should rename it "European day of children." we waited for Julia to take a nap and then went to get some ice cream by the museum. There were rides there and she ... read more

Julia woke up at 5:30. I tried to tell her it's not time to get up yet, mama only slept 4 hours, but her response was pretty nasty throw up. I thought this is just from her congestion - she didn't eat much but all the snot kept draining into her tummy. Then she threw up again, and again...and again....6 times total and only bile was coming out. She was also running fever and couldn't even hold water down. This only lasted 2 hours, we gave her anti nausea meds and soon introduced fluids and she was fine. She slept on and off the whole day. I went to Ohnivko with Monika and Janka and had three small beers and came home. I also found out that Monika and Miso are engaged. Thanks Monika my friend ... read more

I lied. I'm beginning to understand Slovakian. At least enough to catch the bits that are similar to English or French. There are enough that I can now tell when Marian us talking about his English-speaking (or French) Canadian tourist, and the odd other word here and there (allegory of Venus was one I caught today). I wonder if Rosetta Stone does Slovakian. Maybe I could pick up some more... Today was spent wandering in and around Banska Stiavnica. Not far from my hotel was a memorial/prayer column , the plague column. Rather more Baroque than I'd thought it would be, but then, there was more than one wave of plague starting in the early 1300s, and finishing in the 1600s or perhaps even later, I'm not sure. I should really have asked. Ah well, maybe ... read more

This morning it was out to a few sites in the various districts of Bratislava. The first stop was a monument to the liberation of Slovakia after the WWII. I am sort of ashamed that I don't know more about the history of this area. And I have to admit that I find it hard to think of switching from Nazi occupation to Russian-led Communism as liberation, but it's an adjustment I'll have to make, mentally. Next stop was the Sandberg, a geological formation that is made entirely of sandstone, and that preserves a lot of the geological history of the area. Pretty nifty! Another running joke is how fast I'm going through sites here, as the average tourist is a) a fair bit older than me and b) not as fit (thank-you, Running Room!). And ... read more

And so we went onwards to Banská Bystrica (that's pronounced "bun-scar bis-trit-sa"), which along with nearby Zvolen make the two main cities in central Slovakia. We found some creepy little guesthouse which satisfied both of our goth sides quite well, very small and nostalgic, but also very noisy as the walls were probably made from a sheet of cardboard, so you could properly hear everything bumping around. We went for more amazing cheap pizza on the town square on wednesday night and were entertained by a cool little band playing some covers and some songs in slovak (including some translated cover versions!) There was something incredibly eerie about the clocktower, at five to every hour it would chime a new tune on a huge music box, giving the whole place a bit of a fairy tale ... read more
