Београд, Beograd or Belgrade, Serbia We decided to travel to Serbia earlier than originally planned after finding out about the Schengen Rules for travel in the EU. We thought we would leave the Schengen area for a while now rather than later. Without much notice, two very nice women in Belgrade accepted our request to couchsurf with them. Tina and Lily, roommates and architecture students at the University of Beograd currently living in a student dorm so generously offered to let us stay with them. However, when we arrived in Belgrade (by way of a very hot but empty train) there were some difficulties about registering with the police and not having ID cards to present to the dorm. We had to get up nice and early to catch the train to Belgrade. It was quite amusing as the very second that we had all hopped on the train the train moved out of the station. 20 minutes early. We were all a little surprised by the fact that the train was leaving ahead of schedule until Chris told us that this was in fact the 6:30am train that was in fact leaving an hour late, not the 7:30am train leaving early. Welcome to Serbia :) I think we were all a little dubious when we walked off the train into the Belgrade train station. Man sollte es nicht für möglich halten. Die Tür vom 6-Bett-Zimmer hat uns alle in den Wahnsinn getrieben. Die ließ sich nicht mehr schließen, egal was man gemacht hat, der Riegel ist einfach net in die Schlossfalle eingeschnappt. Letzte Nacht hatte ich dann eine Idee, und heute früh hab ich mir Lippenstift ausgeliehen. Dann hab ich das Blech von der Schlossfalle abgeschraubt, und es erstmal über den Riegel geschoben, wies gepasst hat. Dann Lippenstift aufs Blech, Tür zu, und das Ergebnis: Rote Farbe unter (!) der Schlossfalle. Also hing die Tür zu niedrig. Nachdem ich ihr versichert hab, dass ich nur 3 Unterlegscheiben brauche, hat mir Tina sogar den Weg zu dem Eisenwarenhändler in den Stadtplan gezeichnet. Was soll ich sagen? So, erstmal allen frohe Ostern! Ich war heute in der Kirche, wie sich das gehört ;-) Allerdings hat sich das Ganze gar nicht so einfach gestaltet, wie man vielleicht annehmen möchte. Die Suche begann am Freitag. Auf der Seite über die Stadt Belgrad gibt es einen extra Unterpunkt "Religion". Sehr schön. Es folgt eine Auflistung von orthodoxen Kirchen, katholischen Kirchen, die Adresse von Moschee und Synagoge. Evangelisches, Protestantisches oder derartiges ist nicht vorgesehen. Etwas verwundert hab ich dann erstmal geguckt, wieviele Protestanten es in Belgrad überhaupt so gibt. Die absolute Zahl weiß ich immer noch nicht, nur sovie: es sind exakt 0,23 % der Belgrader Bevölkerung. Und ich dachte, in Oberschwaben wären wenig evangelische :D Naja, das kanns ja aber nicht gewesen sein. A full day of playing tour guide to my mother was a bit more challenging than I expected. In truth, it was something I should have seen coming, judging from the way she gave a decidedly unladylike snort when I told her that Belgrade has been called "The New York City of the Balkans." I think she's been spoiled by Athens, so nothing can compare now, naturally :P. We looped around the Kalemegdan and strolled down the Knez Milhailkova, where we had lunch at a little tavern tucked away underground. Food was great! Yum, my stomach remembers that lunch fondly, lol.Cevapi (ground beef and pork, served in balls), Pljeskavica (spiced hamburger meat), paprika salad...what more could you ask for?
