SMILEY ONIONS! :)
aren't they cute??? The morning air was fresh and crisp (I feel obligated to say this, but actually it was more smoggy and biting than it was fresh and crisp :P) as I set out from the hostel.
Thankfully, although I had no map, I still remembered some things from my last stay here over a month ago, and if there was one thing I was sure of, it was that everything was downtown...meaning north.
AND. There are plenty of these nifty signs written in both Cyrillic and Latin (no doubt targeting ignorant little tourists such as myself :P), pointing out sites of interest! Useful little buggers, aren't they? Just make sure you don't stray too far off the beaten path, otherwise you won't have them to direct yourself with.
WHICH REMINDS ME: how is that once I come over here, I haven't seen any street signs (at least, none that are plainly visible?!)? In America, you can always be well-assured that you'll be able to identify the street once you come to most stoplights...but over here, they seem to have disappeared off the face of the planet. Extinct. Playing lost tourist here is thus quite a dangerous game to dabble

Always nice to know that some phrases are universal :P in, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone...T__T
The hours were spent strolling down Knez Mihailova (the cobblestone pedestrian shopping street) (but more like up-and-down, forwards, backwards, and side-to-side, hahaha! 😊), going in and out of cafes, bookstores, cultural centers, and the like.
Ah, paradise! Whilst puttering around the chaotic streets of Downtown Belgrade, I played shameless shutterbug too, taking pictures of random places I knew not the names of.
And OMG. It was while I was crossing the street when I saw something that stopped me dead: a crinkly old woman sporting a bubble-gum-pink hairdo. Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. I've never seen anything like it! It wasn't even a wig -- just a normal do...dyed completely pink.
Now in Asia, older women tend to go for the darker auburn color to hide the greys...but maybe that's the same over here?! Haha, obviously I've spent too much time thinking about this...
AND. I discovered this HUGE (ok, maybe not that huge, but a helluva lot bigger than those mini-maxi markets that are on like every street corner) underground supermarket (Family Market) -- you have to take an escalator to go inside! WHAT...
...and I also
Knez Mihalkova
pedestrian shopping street in Belgrade saw these ads with the cutest bundles of green onion (see the pic somewhere below). Aren't they adorable?!
More firsts today? Hm, well, today was the first time I exchanged money! A whopping 20 euro. Yep, living the high life, I know :DD
The next morning was completely wasted on this nearly fruitless journey to find a post office. A post office. My life really can't get any sadder than that, lol! It really is true when they say that if you're actually trying to find something while wandering around in town, you won't find it, but when you're not, you'll find them all over the place! To add insult to injury, once I finally found this tiny one, I found this HUGE one (think the size of...I dunno, a ten-story Wal-mart Supercenter :P) a few minutes later when I was just walking around!
I finished up the rest of the day being chased by hailstones and ravenous mosquitoes (I've being eaten alive, even as we speak :P). Ah, life.
