Realised now out of shock that Cathy was bitten twice, hip & lower ribs, me once, lower ribs. What an awful night. The dogs were barking all night & we were restless not just because of our sore wounds but reliving the nightmare of the attack. This could be a very sweary blog but I’ll resist...maybe I forgot to mention that whilst we were waiting in the hospital yesterday, a lady who had come in with her ancient mum started talking to me/us...we gestured that we didn’t understand. She took this as clue 1 to carry on. I became so fed up with her I got my phone out, switched on roaming data, typed into Google translate “ We have no scooby doo what you are saying, sorry” She read it, now in Portuguese, & took ... read more

Up early, left the table & chairs out & off. 1 hour later the Dyson said we have arrived – next to field outside Santiago, jolly good. Idea – get phone, switch data roaming on, try Google maps....eta voila, sorted. We were only a few kilometers away. Go into the hospital, find the office location on the ground floor, go to reception first to make sure; no, he took us outside, gestured round the building. Off we go, into an other office round the back. No, she took us outside & pointed to where it was. Next to the mortuary, complete with hearse & coffin outside. Into office to be told that there are no doctors in the morning, he starts at 3pm, very sorry. Oh Joy. So, we were going to go back home & ... read more

So the long awaited trip had a less than promising start!! A trip to get Harvey weighed, started badly, we weighed some 40kg over, we are limited to 3.5t, and we weighed in less clothing but full of Fuel and water, a re-pack urgently needed, we made our way home to collect a rather large Chip from a passing lorry, a quick plead to Emma at Autoglass got us fixed within a couple of hours, the repacking took a little longer and what gave was the water, but more of that later!!!. A smooth sailing to Santander was our reward, as well a beautiful meal, and all very reasonable, aboard the Pont Aven. The following morning saw us sailing into a Sunny and surprisingly, more beautiful city of Santander than had been imagined. We had made ... read more

Bom dia, Another early morning as I packed up and caught the train from Coimbra to Evora. This would be my longest train journey in Portugal, 3.5 hours, but that was only because I would have to wait for almost an hour as I transferred trains. Unfortunately, the rain started as I was leaving Coimbra, and it continued with me into Evora and the Alentejo plain in the southeast of Portugal. It was a very pretty arrival in Evora, seeing the city rise up from the surrounding cork oak trees on the otherwise flat plain. I was going to wait the rain out, but when I was told it was the first rain the city had seen in six months, I figured it would probably last all day so I decided to head out and do ... read more

Nous avons cont... read more

Geo: 38.8455, -7.59168Bonjours à tous,Finalement nous avons super bien dormi tout les deux. On a visite aujourd'hui 3 châteaux . . . fort.

Geo: 38.571, -7.9096SkullduggeryDAY FIVEFriday, September 30, 2016After breakfast at the Ritz, we boarded our pretty "circus" bus and headed out of Lisbon, passing a few more famous sites, including the prison, the train station and some fascinating high rises along the water (Tagus River). We crossed over the Vasco da Gama Bridge, one of Europe's longest suspension bridges, and headed to Evora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Evora has 2,000 years of history.NOTE: The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) seeks to encourage the identification, protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage around the world considered to be of outstanding value to humanity. First stop, the rather creepy Chapel of Bones in the 15th-century church of St. Francis. The chapel is decorated with thousands of skulls and... read more

Geo: 38.571, -7.9096We made it to Lisboa (Lisbon for English speakers). Our apartments have run the gamut from Prague and Barcelona, at the low end, to the wonderful at Meta (and others we can't recall), but this may be the best ever. The furnishing are adequate, not super, but that is not what makes this place stand apart...its the VIEW. Gosh its wonderful! A bit more in a later post.Okay, on the way from Seville, we made two stops at guess what...Roman Ruins (well, and other items). Italica near Seville was reportedly "average", yet possesses a "well preserved" Amphitheatre. Evora has a number of different historical items including Roman, Moorish, and Christian. We agree Evora is superior, but neither match Baelo Claudia near Tarifa.Well Bird objects tremendously to the number of pictures HP intended to send, ... read more
